10-month-old girl abducted from New Mexico park after mother, another woman found dead, police say

An Amber Alert was issued for a 10-month-old girl after the baby's mother and another woman were discovered dead and a 5-year-old was found injured in a New Mexico park.

The Clovis Police Department issued the Amber Alert for Eleia Maria Torres on Friday after officers were dispatched to Ned Houk Park near Clovis around 4:30 p.m. in response to a 911 call about a person finding two deceased women.

New Mexico State Police said they do not have a suspect at this time but believe the person was driving a maroon Honda.

Officers found the women lying on the ground near a silver Dodge minivan, Clovis police said in a Facebook statement. They had apparently been shot.

A 5-year-old girl was found suffering from a gunshot wound to her head, according to statements from Clovis police and state police. She was taken to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas, about 100 miles southeast of Clovis.

At the scene was also an infant car seat, an infant stroller and a small baby bottle, police said.

"Officers were concerned there was an infant child with the female victims when this incident happened," Clovis police said.

Officers immediately began searching for Eleia but could not find her.

The women were identified by police as Samantha Cisneros, the mother of both children, and Taryn Allen. Both women are 23 and from Texico, New Mexico.

Authorities believe Eleia was abducted by the perpetrator "and is in immediate danger," Clovis police said.

"Many details about this incident are unknown and under investigation, but of urgent concern is the whereabouts of Eleia Maria Torres," state police said.

State Charges - Murder / Child Abuse

State charges dropped against suspect in Clovis murders

Prosecutors have paused its case against the man accused of murdering two women in a park and taking a child from one of them.

Collins is facing federal charges for the kidnapping.

With that case pending, prosecutors in Curry County have dismissed the state murder charges without prejudice, meaning they can be brought back.

Why???

I'm thinking that so LONG as they know he is and will stay in custody why not draw back and let the feds to and work on your case and recharge later. Homicides have forever and they perhaps went with fast charges because this man was loose. I'm not saying they weren't prepared and had enough to charge and all that or wouldn't have been prepared as it proceeded but now they can go full on working on it while the feds take the lead. I don't think it's bad news, it may sound like it but I don't think the intent is to never charge him again.

Defense asks for competency hearing ahead of Clovis double murder, kidnapping trial

A five minute hearing Wednesday updated the New Mexico federal district court on murder charges against a man accused of killing two women and kidnapping a 10-month-old child in Clovis.

The update says lawyers for Alek Collins will ask for a mental competency hearing and sets a trial on the kidnapping for sometime during the last two weeks of October.

So they're requesting and having a competency hearing if granted but also preparing for and agreeing to trial the last two weeks of October?

I mean it says his lawyers said both things, or is it bad reporting, that his lawyers set a trial on the kidnapping...
