Do we have a Jefferey Epstein thread?

GOOD. I don't think they have even scratched the surface yet much less all of the people who were hosted by Epstein and provided with anything they could ask for...

Talking bail, I guess we should mention Ghislaine Maxwell who has been denied bail as a flight risk I believe. Trial starts Monday. I couldn't find a thread yet. Prince Andrew will be following pretty closely, I think.

Ghislaine Maxwell caught up in Jeffrey Epstein allegations

She faces charges in the US of having assisted disgraced US financier Jeffrey Epstein's abuse of minors.

From the link above:-
Four charges relate to the years 1994-97 when she was, according to the indictment, among Epstein's closest associates and also in an "intimate relationship" with him. Two other charges - of sex trafficking conspiracy and sex trafficking of a minor - came in an amended indictment and relate to the period 2001 and 2004.
Another two charges are allegations of perjury in 2016. She has pleaded not guilty on all charges.
Epstein died in a New York prison cell on 10 August 2019 as he awaited, without the chance of bail, his trial on sex trafficking charges.
Details of the allegations against Ms Maxwell emerged earlier in documents unsealed by a US judge in August 2019 in a 2015 defamation case.
Virginia Giuffre, an alleged victim of Epstein, has accused Ms Maxwell of recruiting her as a masseuse to the financier at the age of 15.
She sued Ms Maxwell in 2015 for defamation - a case which has since been settled - after the media heiress, daughter of the late newspaper tycoon, Robert Maxwell, said Ms Giuffre was a liar.
Ms Maxwell denies any wrongdoing.

Ghislaine Maxwell's family created a webpage for her
I'm thinking I'm not going to read any support page for that nasty piece of work...

GHISLAINE MAXWELL, 58, is charged with one count of enticing a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, one count of conspiracy to entice a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, one count of transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, one count of conspiracy to transport a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, and two counts of perjury, each of which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

The statutory maximum penalties are prescribed by Congress and are provided here for informational purposes only, as any sentencing of the defendant would be determined by the judge.

Ms. Strauss praised the outstanding investigative work of the FBI and the NYPD.

This case is being handled by the Office’s Public Corruption Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alex Rossmiller, Alison Moe, and Maurene Comey are in charge of the prosecution.

The charges contained in the Indictment are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

[1] As the introductory phrase signifies, the entirety of the text of the Indictment, and the description of the Indictment set forth herein, constitute only allegations, and every fact described therein should be treated as an allegation. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

End of quoted passage.

So the charges carry a maximum charge of 5 years in prison, except the transporting, which is 10 years. How long has she been in prison for so far?

Am just comparing this with the Waukesha parade accused, who was out on bail despite much more severe charges.

While I can't disagree her charges have her in isolation and with no bail, and if this was someone else, they may get bond, there are other factors to be considered including her ability to flee the country. She also has very important and/or wealthy people who may well want her out of the picture or want to free her so that their names do not come up... Prince Andrew would be but one example... It's also a federal case as pointed out above by @kdg411 which would be an entirely different set of circumstances and legal process.

Also, if it was just state to state, I see much higher bond in many parts of the country than I do in Wisconsin. States vary widely and in WI no bond is almost unheard of to my knowledge. And sentencing often seems very light.

Jmo though.

She has reportedly offered to wear an electronic tag and give up her other citizenships. The family has organized a $28 million bail fund also, but I agree she is a flight risk. I just read the wiki page which has details of the prior cases against her ( the private suits ) so thought it may be good to post that too so we have an indication of the alleged crimes.
