A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

EXCLUSIVE: Brian Laundrie is 'well equipped' to survive MONTHS in 25,000-acre Florida nature reserve as Gabby Petito's best friend reveals he's gone off the grid before and lived in the Appalachians by himself: Manhunt enters fifth day

  • The manhunt for Brian Laundrie, 23, has entered its fifth day as police continue to search the 25,000-acre Florida nature reserve
  • Gabby Petito's best friend Rose Davis revealed in an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com that Laundrie is well equipped to survive in the reserve
  • Davis said Laundrie lived in the Appalachians for three months by himself
  • 'I know he's skilled at it,' Davis said, 'You could see the enthusiasm in his voice when he would talk about his adventures by himself into the Appalachians'
  • Petito's death was ruled a homicide on Monday, and Laundrie has been declared a person of interest
  • He was last seen more than a week ago leaving his parents' home in North Port, Florida with a backpack and his whereabouts remain unknown
  • Davis described him as a jealous and controlling, and said he'd try to prevent Petito from hanging out with her

Brian Laundrie's weeklong disappearance into a 25,000-acre nature reserve is nothing compared to other solo trips he's taken into the wilderness – including a hike on the Appalachian trail lasting three months, DailyMail.com has learned.

'I know he lived in the Appalachians for what I believe was three months, and he did it by himself, so I know he's skilled at it,' said Rose Davis, best friend of Gabby Petito, whose body was found Sunday in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.

'He and Gabby both told me stories about it,' Rose added in an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com. 'And you could see the enthusiasm in his voice when he would talk about his adventures by himself like that trip into the Appalachians,' a trail stretching more than 2,000 miles from Georgia to Maine.

He was last seen more than a week ago leaving his parents' home in North Port, Florida with a backpack. His whereabouts remain unknown, with the manhunt entering its fifth day.

Police and FBI agents resumed their search of the Carlton Reserve early Wednesday, sharing photos of search dogs heading out into the swampland.

On Wednesday, police divers arrived at the vast swampland Carlton Reserve.

A van from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Underwater Recovery Force, towing a small dingy, turned up about an hour after an airboat was seen for the first time at the 25,000-acre reserve.

When asked if divers were recovering anything significant, North Port Police information chief Josh Taylor said: 'We are looking. Nothing found. We have to work to rule it out though.'

'Area resources are looking at large bodies of water, including dive teams, boats, and sonar equipment. At this time, this does not mean anything has been found. It's a part of the overall search process,' Taylor said. 'Additionally, right now, NPPD is on scene of a possible self-inflicted death, roughly one mile from the Environmental Park. Nothing to do with this case.'

Rose said she met Gabby early last year on Bumble BFF, a meeting app for friends, and they instantly hit it off.

Rose, 21, who lives in Sarasota, said Laundrie often liked to be alone and didn't appear to have any friends.

Even when he'd join her and Gabby at the beach in Florida, he'd go off to sit by himself.

She described him as a jealous and controlling, and said he'd try to prevent his fiancé from hanging out with her.

The couple had several brutal arguments in which Petito would drive off to spend the night at her house.

'I think that's one reason why Brian rushed into this van trip,' Rose said of the cross-country trip Petito and Laundrie began in July. 'He saw how close we were getting and he realized that after every fight, she was staying at my house. And he didn't have control over that.'

The couple were filming their adventures for a 'van-life' YouTube channel Petito was creating.

Rose was planning to meet them in Wyoming's Yellowstone National Park in September and had even asked her boss for days off for the trip. They were planning to lock in a specific date on August 29, Rose's birthday, but Petito never called.

Laundrie returned home without Petito on September 1, and her family from Long Island reported her missing on September 11.

Rose said she was horrified when police then released details of an argument the couple had in Moab, Utah in early August, just days after Rose last spoke to her best friend.

'I'm sure it caused an argument when Gabby told him I was going there soon because he knows dang well that if I saw them in a rocky place, I would take her home with me,' she told DailyMail.com. 'I would be like screw this, you're coming home with me. We'll do this on our own some time.'

Rose had considered Laundrie a friend at one point, but said she now hopes he'll be caught and made to suffer.

'I hope he's found and then I want him to get convicted and go to jail,' she said. 'I won't go into detail with the rest that I want to have happen to him, him and his parents.'

I only can think about how callous they acted and still act towards Gabbys family. No empathy. And they knew Gabby so well, she lived with them! I just don't get it, unless they never liked her😢.
I wish other cases would get even just a fraction of this media attention, it's insane.

I think it also gets so much attention is the wildly convoluted story of it, too. Much drama makes media $$ more than non drama missing persons stories.

Who's to say he didn't make his way to the Appalachians to the areas where he found it easy to survive alone? I wonder if there are any specifics on places he prefers there?

A "mysterious journey"? You can't tell me someone isn't following them around.

I only can think about how callous they acted and still act towards Gabbys family. No empathy. And they knew Gabby so well, she lived with them! I just don't get it, unless they never liked her😢.
I wish other cases would get even just a fraction of this media attention, it's insane.

As stupid as this sounds I think people like them probably blame her for what their son is going through right now.

Arrest warrant issued for Brian Laundrie

WYOMING — A federal arrest warrant was issued Thursday afternoon for Brian Laundrie, days after remains found in Wyoming were confirmed to be those of his girlfriend, Gabby Petito.

READ: Moab to investigate how police handled incident involving Petito, Laundrie

The U.S. District Court of Wyoming issued the warrant "pursuant to a Federal Grand Jury indictment related to Mr. Laundrie’s activities following the death of Gabrielle Petito," according to the FBI.

According to documents, the warrant was technically issued for fraud, claiming Laundrie, 23, used an unauthorized bank debit card and personal identification number, possibly Petito's, between Aug. 20 and Sept. 1 in Wyoming.

"While this warrant allows law enforcement to arrest Mr. Laundrie, the FBI and our partners across the country continue to investigate the facts and circumstances of Ms. Petito's homicide," said FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Michael Schneider.

Petito's remains were found Sunday in Wyoming and confirmed to be her Tuesday. Laundrie has been missing for over a week since returning to Florida earlier this month after the disappearance of his girlfriend.

so he was supposedly tired of her wanting to make money from her blog, but he evidently needed that very money himself. How did he contribute financially to this month's long road trip?

I just saw the federal arrest warrant too was issued. If he wasn't before, I assume he would now be a suspect or fugitive at large?

Don't know all the details of this case due to lack of time but know the basics.

So where does everyone think he is? Alive or dead? Hiding in the wilderness where they are searching? Or on the run elsewhere/staying with someone?

Moab to investigate police handling of Brian Laundrie, Gabby Petito altercation

Petito and Laundrie were stopped by police in Utah on Aug. 12

The City of Moab, Utah, tells Fox News on Thursday that it is launching an investigation into how police handled an Aug. 12 incident between Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie.

"With the weeks-long search for Ms. Petito across the western U.S., news that a call to Grand County Dispatch on Aug. 12 reported a possible domestic dispute between Ms. Petito and Brian Laundrie here in Moab has naturally led to questions from the media and the public about the call," the city of Moab said Thursday. "During the past week, our police officers have been both praised and criticized for their response and their resolution of the incident involving Ms. Petito and Mr. Laundrie."

"At this time, the City of Moab is unaware of any breach of Police Department policy during this incident," their statement continued. "However, the City will conduct a formal investigation and, based on the results, will take any next steps that may be appropriate."

"While this warrant allows law enforcement to arrest Mr. Laundrie, the FBI and our partners across the country continue to investigate the facts and circumstances of Ms. Petito's homicide," FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Michael Schneider said in a Friday statement. "We urge individuals with knowledge of Mr. Laundrie's role in this matter or his current whereabouts to contact the FBI."

Whoops! We couldn't access this Tweet.
Investigators on Sunday discovered Petito's remains in the Bridger-Teton National Forest in Moose, Wyoming. Petito and her 23-year-old fiancé, Brian Laundrie, were traveling from New York to Oregon in a white 2012 Ford Transit van that they converted into a camper when she disappeared in late August.

Laundrie returned home to North Port, Fla., where the couple lived with Laundrie’s parents, 10 days earlier on Sept. 1 with no sign of his fiancé. Petito's parents reported her missing on Sept. 11.

BUSTED!!!!! It appears he used her Debit card!!!

Read the documents: Brian Laundrie arrest warrant

JACKSON, Wyo. (KDVR) — Brian Laundrie is wanted on an arrest warrant for the charge of “use of unauthorized access devices.”

Laundrie is the boyfriend of Gabby Petito, who’s body was found in Teton National Forest over the weekend after she had been missing for several weeks.

Arrest warrant issued for Brian Laundrie in relation to death of Gabby Petito
The indictment says Laundrie used a Capitol One debit card and PIN that did not belong to him to obtain things of value totaling more than $1,000.

Petito’s death was ruled a homicide and Laundrie is considered a person of interested in her disappearance, but the arrest warrant does not mention her name or refer to her death in any way.

ETA I must admit it doesn't say it was Gabby's card and it is my assumption. fran
