A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

I just saw the federal arrest warrant too was issued. If he wasn't before, I assume he would now be a suspect or fugitive at large?

Don't know all the details of this case due to lack of time but know the basics.

So where does everyone think he is? Alive or dead? Hiding in the wilderness where they are searching? Or on the run elsewhere/staying with someone?
On the run, hiding, using Gabby's bank account to fund his endeavors. 🤬

Will the parents be charged? What could happen as the search for Brian Laundrie continues

CARLTON RESERVE, Fla. — 75 people resumed the search Thursday for any signs of Brian Laundrie in the Carlton Reserve. Swamp buggies and drones are out tonight taking search crews where most people can’t go. Laundrie is a person of interest in Gabby Petito’s death. Tonight, questions loom about the consequences Brian’s parents could end up facing after all this is said and done.

The Laundries were escorted by police away from their home this morning. No one knows where they went. If they helped Brian disappear or destroyed any evidence, there’s a chance they could face prison time.

A memorial outside North Port City Hall is home to emotional farewells, beautiful pictures and flickering flames. People from all over are coming to pay their respects to Petito.

“She just left her unicorn over there for her,” Hollie Matteson said about her three year old niece.

The memorial grows as search parties are on the hunt for Brian Laundrie. He disappeared more than a week ago. The question is: did Brian’s parents help him get away?

“If they knew what happened, and they intended to protect their son from detection in some way whether they’re helping him escape or hiding him, then yes they can be arrested an accessory after the fact,” justice studies professor Pamella Seay said.

Seay said when it comes to possible murder, there is no parent-child privilege in court. While the Laundries have the right to remain silent, they do not have the right to hide their son.

"It is my understanding that the arrest warrant for Brian Laundrie is related to activities occurring after the death of Gabby Petito and not related to her actual demise," Steve Bertolino said. "The FBI is focusing on locating Brian and when that occurs the specifics of the charges covered under the indictment will be addressed in the proper forum."

*(perhaps Mr. Bertolino should publicly address his client to turn himself in before someone takes a bounty out on him, jmo)

On many occasions, LE doesn't have the evidence to arrest you for murder and the person of interest won't speak to police under the fifth amendment. Once you're lawyered up, LE can't talk to you without your attorney.

When someone is committing a crime, they usually commit a variety of offenses. That's where these new charges come in. Up to this point, Brian has been able to avoid speaking to LE at all. Now he has to go before the FBI. :jail:

BUSTED!!!!! It appears he used her Debit card!!!

Read the documents: Brian Laundrie arrest warrant

JACKSON, Wyo. (KDVR) — Brian Laundrie is wanted on an arrest warrant for the charge of “use of unauthorized access devices.”

Laundrie is the boyfriend of Gabby Petito, who’s body was found in Teton National Forest over the weekend after she had been missing for several weeks.

Arrest warrant issued for Brian Laundrie in relation to death of Gabby Petito
The indictment says Laundrie used a Capitol One debit card and PIN that did not belong to him to obtain things of value totaling more than $1,000.

Petito’s death was ruled a homicide and Laundrie is considered a person of interested in her disappearance, but the arrest warrant does not mention her name or refer to her death in any way.

ETA I must admit it doesn't say it was Gabby's card and it is my assumption. fran
I think it is reasonable to believe it is hers. If it was someone else's he likely would not know the PIN. If it was given or lent willingly, there would be no charges.

The attorney is in Orlando? Orlando is probably 2 hours away from them. Were they gone for 5-6 hours today? The search warrant said (posted up thread) that the parents told LE to contact their attorney and wouldn't let Brian talk to them. Makes me wonder when the attorney was retained.
They would be arresting the parents if they did that AND their attorney is stating that. They were still searching the preserve today and coming back tomorrow

Well, they told LE to talk through their attorney when they came for the van.

He might also have offices in Orlando and suggested them meet there away from the area.

There is one news station covering this live on YT almost all day and they said they met the attorney in Orlando but it didn't sound like that was where the attorney was from and they speculated they all met out of town to maybe avoid media, etc. or who knows for what reason...
