A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

If there attorney is from New York, I think the drive to see him in Orlando is not so questionable. It would cost plenty for the two to fly to NY and then people would talk that they were going to see their son. Orlando tends to be one of the cheaper flights in Florida since their attorney will charge them and like @Guess Who said, he may have an office there or it is just as likely he used a firm's office of a law firm he deals with in Orlando, etc. It would cost more to have him drive to see them plus they may assume their house is bugged. I don't know what the library was but if Daily Mail was around maybe they were trying to get away from people surrounding their car for photos? Or was it something to do with their son? Hard to say.

I think if they had a purpose, the library computer was number one. Whatever they were going to do there (if anything) noticing the agents was probably the end of the plan. If they have a convoy of agents following them everywhere though, the pressure is on and they know they can't do hardly a thing without it being found out so Brian will be without help soon unless there is another go between or someone else to do it on their own if the parents can't...?

I agree and it also appears they are not really trying to "hide" despite lurking in aisles at the library lol. Unless they were being covert but media outed them, I sure hope not.

I have no doubt there are other ways they are monitoring. If they had a search warrant for the house, it shows they had enough for that so it is likely in my opinion they have looked at and are the parents' bank accounts etc. and more. I wonder if there were any large cash withdrawals in the past weeks...

In my opinion for their son to make it soon, he will have to work or steal. Not trying to be critical, it just seems it is getting harder and harder for the parents to help with being tailed and all if they indeed are helping him.

Very true but unless he is out of the country, I just think they are no match for the agencies involved. And no matter what, he is eventually going to need something or others they have helping him will be needing more $$ from the parents for instance to funnel/give him or something...

Hopefully, sooner rather than later.

These parents sure don't seem to be acting like they are actually afraid that their son will harm himself. If I was afraid of that, I'm pretty sure I would have called authorities the day they last saw him and not dayS later.
I agree. They are a large part of the reason I think he is alive plus he just seems the type to value himself too much to do such a thing. Jmo though.

As far as who will cave first, that's a tough one. The parents I would think would not want to destroy their own lives at a certain point but who knows. Maybe they are committed to never turning on him.

Now with him, I don't see him as the type to admit the truth but I do think trying to live without electronics at his age, get in touch with anyone, etc. is not going to be easy for him. Not having convenient food, going to restaurants, traveling easily, all things he seemed used to. If he does come in, he will be lawyered up and will never admit the truth imo.

I only pick him to cave first because if the parents are being tightly surveilled, how is he going to survive financially?

Yep, I lean towards him too.

BUT the parents have to look at possible charges, losing their assets or home, etc. Perhaps they are wealthy, I know they are not poor, hard to say. I know they own a juice company or something don't they? And paying a lawyer from NY is going to be very expensive in short order... None of the states involved include NY but he may be versed in federal law?

Hard to say. I just hope they find him or he comes in SOON and this does not go on for months.

I don't think the parents can be held accountable for what they might have done prior to the charges being filed against him. They absolutely can from that time on though. Their lawyer had to have made that abundantly clear to them, one would think. I am sure the trip to the library was to try to get something to him in some way or another, whether a message and or $$.

His parents are so odd that I really can’t get a read on them.

I'm guessing that after talking to police there's a reason they sought out a lawyer. The police probably told them they were charging their son and that anyone who harbors a fugitive can be charged and convicted of a crime. I think they went to see the lawyer to tell him everything they know and what they can and can't do in the future for their son.

EXCLUSIVE: Parents of missing Brian Laundrie were shadowed by undercover agents as they broke cover and drove 150 miles to meet their attorney

  • Christopher Laundrie, 62, and wife Roberta, 55, were spotted in Orlando, Florida, on Thursday, hours after breaking cover and leaving their North Port home
  • The couple drove 150 mi to Orlando to meet attorney Steve Bertolino and to stop at a library, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal
  • A federal arrest warrant was issued for their son Brian on Wednesday
  • In surreal scenes, undercover agents - believed to be the FBI - followed the Laundries inside and hovered in the aisles as they kept their eyes on them
  • They waited inside the library for around 30 minutes, not stopping to look at a single book or display, before hopping back into their red Dodge Ram truck
  • The pair stopped by another building for an hour before driving back home, tailed the entire way by the same convoy of unmarked law enforcement vehicles
  • Earlier on Thursday, the Laundries were seen returning to their home after a trip to the police station in North Port
  • At the same time, Brian Laundrie's silver Mustang was returned by a tow truck crew after being seized by FBI agents on Monday
  • The vehicle was impounded after it was found abandoned last week at the nearby Carlton nature reserve
The parents of missing Brian Laundrie were shadowed by undercover agents Thursday as they broke cover and drove 150 miles to Orlando to meet with an attorney, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.

Lawyer Steve Bertolino flew from New York to Florida specifically to meet with Brian's parents after a federal arrest warrant was issued for the missing 23-year-old on Wednesday.

A convoy of unmarked vehicles first tailed Christopher and Roberta Laundrie as they left their North Port, Florida home and headed towards Orlando earlier this morning.

In surreal scenes, undercover agents - believed to be with the FBI - followed the couple into the Orlando Public Library on Thursday and hovered in the aisles perusing 80s dance CDs and a Colombian art installation while keeping them under constant surveillance.

Though it's not clear what they were doing in the library, it's now known that the couple met Bertolino in Orlando during their trip.

'It is my understanding that the arrest warrant for Brian Laundrie is related to activities occurring after the death of Gabby Petito and not related to her actual demise,' Bertolino told DailyMail.com.

'The FBI is focusing on locating Brian and when that occurs the specifics of the charges covered under the indictment will be addressed in the proper forum.'

Bertolino issued a statement Thursday evening after a federal arrest warrant was issued for his fugitive client.

A day earlier Bertolino was hit with a cease and desist letter from Gabby's parents who complained that his business' Yelp page was using pics of their dead daughter without permission.

Bertolino denied being responsible and said he had no control over what people had posted on the page. The image was later removed.

On Thursday, the FBI confirmed the the US District Court of Wyoming issued a federal arrest warrant for Brian Laundrie 'pursuant to a Federal Grand Jury indictment related to Mr. Laundrie's activities following the death of Gabrielle Petito' the day before.

Christopher, 62, looked agitated and unhappy as he talked on his phone while Roberta, 55, paced up and down in the lobby, occasionally glancing suspiciously at the plain-clothes operatives.

They waited inside the library for around 30 minutes, not stopping to look at a single book or display, before ignoring requests to comment from a DailyMail.com reporter and hopping back into their red Dodge Ram truck.

Moments later the vehicle was spotted entering a downtown Orlando parking garage, attached to a large office building.

Around an hour later, Christopher and Roberta emerged from the garage and drove home to North Port - tailed the entire way back to their front door by the same convoy of unmarked law enforcement vehicles.

The couple first set out on the trip earlier Thursday morning after they were seen being escorted by two law enforcement vehicles as they drove through their hometown.

The reason for their visit - a two-hour-and 20-minute drive from their bungalow - was shrouded in mystery until later that evening, when attorney Bertolino confirmed he had met with the couple.

I hope that information came from police because they wanted the parents to know. I'm hoping this isn't something the cops didn't want released.

Yeah, I understand it the same way, he was not under an arrest warrant at the time. They were either trying to make contact with their son possibly or get something to him but one other possibility might be that they picked a "quiet library" to see if they were followed and how closely they were being monitored/followed. We may never know.
