A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

It's probably not erected over anything too important because there's a table under it along with chairs and an cooler just outside the tent.
It's hard to say. They may just be throwing some things up to adjust later...? A body would be left on scene I imagine, like in a tree if he hung himself, on the ground where they found him, etc. until all personnel arrive and evidence collected...

I hope this ME call is not just "protocol"...

They just said that Le had opened up the park to the public and it was announced yesterday. The parents became concerned because they wanted to check themselves. They called LE last night and LE met them this morning.

JMHO
fran
Why now I wonder... How often did they go back and search there after finding the car... The parents I mean? It was some time before LE ever searched there...

Hmm. So I wonder if they actually have found him or are hoping to based on the items found... All I can say is if the ME was called just "in case" they find something but actually haven't yet, my opinion of LE in this case is going to sink pretty low...
They found something or they wouldn't set a tent up. Something may not be a body, but still.

Let's say they didn't find his remains near the bag and clothes.

How is he surviving without the bag and clothes, unless his parents planted them. I still keep seeing conflicting reports that the parents were out there with police and that they went out on their own.

Since he went missing, I've felt the evidence was in favor of him committing suicide. That's why I posted that none of this surprises me. Even if they don't find his body today, my opinion won't change.

Oh I see the conflicting reports source now. The family attorney.

The Sarasota County Medical Examiner and a cadaver dog were called on Wednesday to a Florida park where authorities found several items belonging to Brian Laundrie, the missing fiancé of Gabby Petito.

Laundrie's parents, Chris and Roberta Laundrie, informed the FBI and the North Port Police Department Tuesday night that they intended to come to the park on Wednesday morning to search for him, family attorney Steven Bertolino said. Law enforcement met them there Wednesday morning, he said.

Articles of Brian's is all we know. I have seen tents used just to hide evidence like that and tents used just to stage searching, conversation and planning area and water, etc. as well. I guess this case has been such a circus that I'm a bit skeptical.

They had to draw back on the clothing remark, WFLA had that wrong it was just "articles of Brian's"... I guess that could be a knife, a backpack or anything and not just clothing... Wouldn't mean all of his clothing necessarily either so not sure his ability to survive would be affected as we don't know what they found. Jmo.
