A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

If this is Brian:

He's been dead for awhile, obviously.

It begs the question, what the heck is this perfect timing with his parents. Whatever I think of them, I feel bad they are the ones that probably found the remains.
and IF that is what happened, they could have been spared a bit of the shock maybe if they had helped sooner since it seems they knew where to look.

WFLA is talking about the finding of the backpack and a notebook so I'm wondering how waterproof was the backpack (if it was underwater and not hanging in a tree). Was the notebook inside the backpack or did the FBI mean they were found separately. Is the notebook readable as it is or is it in such a condition that it will need to be dried and then subjected to paper professionals to extract the contents. So many questions.

I missed it. Maybe I can catch it later tonight. Did they answer any questions from anyone?
No, it was a big nothing. Very short, a few words. And even the remains were "appearance" of human remains.

After seeing Maya's press conference last night, this one was a complete disappointment. I get it's comparing apples and orange but this one told us nothing we didn't know basically other than I guess there was a notebook but things weren't confirmed to be Brian's either... Nothing was confirmed really.

I can't remember the exact name, but they were carrying a wet bag or something like that. I'm hoping the notebook was in there. It keeps things dry hopefully.

Unless there is a journal, confession or some such, they may simply have found his things which will tell us nothing. It makes one wonder if he is indeed dead did he go with the intent to harm himself or did he pack a lot of gear and intend to take off... It's frustrating to even wonder at this point because they aren't telling us anything...

If HE is dead, LE better get out and front of it pretty fast with that info and some other answers as the Laundries won't even be able to grieve with the protestors still not buying this was not staged and more... Imo.

They said the notebook and backpack were Brian's.

I have the same feeling, but I'm watching Court TV and they are saying human remains were found with the backpack that belonged to Brian Laundrie. So it's pretty obvious he's dead, but I still want DNA confirmation.

Maybe so but I'm taking a wait and see on what they have for partial remains and who they belong to since the FBI guy didn't confirm who the remains belong to. I would hope they have shared more with Gabby's family than they have with us, and with the Laundries as well but who knows...
