A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

What was THAT? That was not a press conference, it was more like a PR campaign. Nothing but self-congratulations to self and all agencies and promoting how good they are, all they did, their equipment and acting as if because of it all, look, here we are case solved... Not a thing has been shared with us since yesterday that indicates any such thing. Oh he put in the necessary comments about feeling for the Petitos and a few other standard things but that was nothing but a glorified PR moment and I saw no reason for it at all... This is something that would come "after" all is buttoned up...

Interesting that they wait until his remains are possibly located they now name him a person of interest in Gabby’s murder.

FBI names Brian Laundrie person of interest in murder of Gabby Petito during search update

TAMPA (WFLA) – The FBI announced Wednesday afternoon that Brian Laundrie is a person of interest in the murder of Gabby Petito.
The announcement was made following the discovery of partial human remains in an area of the Carlton Reserve in Sarasota County that had been underwater until recently.
“As you’re aware, the FBI and the North Port Police Department and our state and local law enforcement partners have been searching the area of the Carlton Reserve for Brian Laundrie, a person of interest in the murder of Gabby Petito,” FBI Tampa Division Special Agent in Charge Michael McPherson said.
Last month, the FBI issued an arrest warrant for Laundrie, who was previously named a person of interest in the homicide investigation of Petito.
Laundrie was reported missing by his family on Sept. 17, sparking a massive search. According to North Port police, family members said they last saw Laundrie on Sept. 13.

He was named earlier, it says so in this. "who was previously named a person of interest in the homicide investigation of Petito"... They just never used the word "suspect" etc. Just one of probably a few persons of interest was the implication...

My thoughts exactly! Couldn't have said it better myself. Hope the "we know where he is" man didn't sprain his shoulder patting himself on the back.

IDK about the sleeve anymore than I know why she changed hats from the pink one to the aqua one between stops. And, if you notice in the "meal kit" link, in a pic of her getting out of the truck, she's holding her grey jacket and the pink hat and the way she's holding the hat it looks like she's giving the bird to the camera.
New "memorial" tat?

You know, generally I'm a believer in things are not usually all that far fetched. This case at its core probably had a young man who lost it with his girlfriend and killed her, he then tried to cover up, probably panicked, ran, headed home in a panic and hoped he would not be found out... He then at some point went and killed himself as it all came down on him. Simple really.

Or alternatively, he may have had his parents help at first but when things caught "fire" and the parents couldn't meet or help him and things closed in, he then killed himself... Also pretty simple...

But the oddities and things that have went on around this case gives one pause and reason to wonder if there is more to all of this.... Of course one has to take or try to take out all of the internet hype and media attention and more that has given it a life of its own and try to just see the facts of which we don't know too many...

What remains are things around it one has to question... The absolute odd coincidence of finding these things yesterday... Watching professionals letting the Laundries handle evidence apparently and wander around alone... From what we can tell anyhow... Bringing in a NY attorney... Brian going missing yet LE claiming they knew where he was... The Laundries finding the Mustang, removing it and yet failing to report their son missing... The fact he went missing to begin with after being home and camping publicly, etc... These things and more have turned it into a circus and created a public full of doubts and mistrust in the case... And for good reason... And LE whether wittingly or unwittingly imo in this case has contributed to it... Some of them anyhow... Imo.

....and on top of all that this ridiculous 'press conference' where they said what a fantastic job they did.. 🤦‍♀️

Yeah, that was so blatant. I just asked my mother if she saw it and she had. She had the same scathing opinion of it... Just someone basking in his glory....

I'll tell you my pet peeve is politics having anything to do with justice.... The two have always been entwined but it is worse today than ever and one thing should never affect the other but it naturally does...

Exactly. IF it was such a fantastic job, what explains why they didn't go back to this spot after the water went down. Papa Laundrie pointed out this spot as one of the places (so he says) that day they asked him to come out there but it was underwater. It's not like they weren't back out there shortly before they reopened the park. Must not have had a list of the places that they could check off as searched.

I am starting to think that the camping trip was possibly a "one last family get together" thing.

Very good observations on this whole thing.

Actually it appears it is turning out to be exactly that.
but was it planned to be that? As in, did they all come to the conclusion that this would be better than being in prison? Were they afraid of unknown info coming out if a trial was to take place? Would the entire family be in deep doodoo if it came to a trial?

I am certain the parents at least, know far more about what happened to both Gabby and Brian than they are letting on.
