A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

I think it is both but more so about getting answers. The estate though take what they can, why not, they did not get justice and they are upset at the actions of the other family. It may not be a lot if anything but put it towards the Foundation. Actually it may cost them more than they can get to bring the action and sustain it. I do think they are just doing anything they can as they were robbed of justice--but the overriding reason is answers.

I watched the hearing today. I think the judge will deny the motion to dismiss and this case will go to trial. In my opinion this lawsuit is without merit. The idea that BL's parents had a duty to report to GP's parents is not right.

The judge seemed focused on a statement that the Laundrie's lawyer made on their behalf. He said that he was an agent for them so it's as if they said it themselves. The plaintiff's will have to prove that the defendants knew that Gabby was dead and purposely gave the statement to inflict emotional distress. I doubt they have that proof.

Here's a statement by the plaintiff's lawyer.

The Petito-Schmidt attorney, Pat Reilley, said there has to be a crime in order for the Laundrie’s to invoke their fifth amendment rights.

“I’m waiting for the day for the Laundries to tell us what crimes they committed so hopefully they’ll do that. I don’t know what crimes they’re asserting they did. We did allege that they were trying to move some money around to get Brian out of the country but there was no arrest warrant out for Brian he wasn’t a fugitive,” said Reilley.
The plaintiff's say they the Laundrie's knew that BL killed GP, they hid his location and attempted to get him out of the country to escape punishment for his actions. That looks to me like the crime of accessory after the fact.

Under Florida Statute 777.03, the crime of Accessory After the Fact is committed when a person maintains, assists, or aids a person known to have committed a felony, intending for the person to avoid or escape detection, arrest, trial, or punishment for the felony.

This means the protections provided by the 5th Amendment do apply to the Laundrie's.

Laundrie family's attorney argues against Petitio family's lawsuit in court

Any person who maintains or assists the principal or an accessory before the fact, or gives the offender any other aid, knowing that the offender had committed a crime and such crime was a capital, life, first degree, or second degree felony, or had been an accessory thereto before the fact, with the intent that the offender avoids or escapes detection, arrest, trial, or punishment, is an accessory after the fact.

which is a crime. it also means their attorney is correct in that if they are pleading the 5th, they have committed a crime.

While my heart goes out to the Petitos I truly don't see the basis for this.

They were protecting their son just as I'm sure the Petitos wish they could have protected Gabby and saved her. They sought legal advice and representation. Did they know something or know from him? That's possible for sure but I seriously doubt there is any proof of that one way or the other. The judge didn't dismiss the lawsuit and while I should be surprised, I am not. I'm sure the judge is well aware of the sympathy for the Petitos.

Wow. Well.

First, if these things are coming out and wouldn't have without the civil suit, then I understand the reasoning behind it and often that is what happens or people have to talk when they didn't otherwise, etc. it isn't clear to me whether this was why it was released now or not.

I don't believe most of it does anyone else? Even in death he lies. I think much may be true except for how it came to be... It is far more likely he was chasing her or she was fleeing him AND likely he strangled her and beat her head etc. in the creek sadly. OR that she did get some injuries while fleeing in a panic but I wouldn't even be sure of that.

Who knows if his story of carrying her or the fire or anything else is true at all. I guess he could have had the "dry bag" and a lighter or something but again hard to believe he got one started, found wood, etc.... Or that he had it with for what was likely just a walk or whatever but who knows...

A well thought out story that I think he thought covered everything but it does and doesn't... She couldn't convey anything to him but on the other hand conveyed a lot when waking up, etc. You don't SHOOT someone who you aren't sure will make it or not... It's b.s.

It also is quite clear his parents were already undergoing a lot of attacks and it seems to me that he may have been alive a bit longer and had access to news or internet/phone, etc. or something yet... The things at his parents got bad and intensified AFTER he would have supposedly already been gone...

It is clear there is guilt over that as he asks repeatedly they be left alone. I do think it has been unfair how far the attacks on his parents have went. I don't agree with all they did but their son did this, not them.

I think he told his "verson" of an abuser's "truth" which is really a lie but is whitewashed and of course he attempted to BE the hero in it...

Again just WOW...

I would love to meet people who believe any part of his story other than his using her name. I'd be able to make millions of dollars by easily scamming them.

I think he likely covered the "right" injuries to cover himself in his dying story... Meaning her foot and a bump on her head and other things he mentioned were probably TRUE things found on autopsy and he KNEW they would be... He crafted a story to fit the scenario or tried to... That's all I mean by parts of truth. Other than that it is a self serving bunch of b.s.

The whole drama about what he says she went through I don’t believe was caused by the Elements, I think it was because he was hurting her before he finally strangled her. What a piece of crap.
Yep. It is full of obvious things including his heroism/attempted heroism/her fault, etc. They can't see almost dark but then he can too. She can't talk but then she can... He tried I will give him that but the type and his age do not realize as good as he tried to craft this "story" and it was a great attempt, it is pretty obvious to most older and a bit wiser even... And typical of abusers...

Linda has a short one on it, a few people do but I watched hers and in her way she hits on those very things and more... I'll go get it and be back in a minute.

How pathetic that even with his own end in sight he wasn't able to tell the truth. It's a good thing that everybody knows now what a person he really was. Reality check. I am sure he was a proficient gaslighter as well.
You nailed it. Exactly what he is. I do believe he was sorry for his parents to a point and I am guessing they were having quite a time in their household with them on him about such a screw up and even though maybe trying to help at all costs at wit's end most likely too, and clearly not able this time to bail him out of what he did AND had to face what people were doing to them too... I believe he did hate that Gabby's family hated him but he hated it for HIS SAKE. He new there was no fixing or turning this one around EVEN if his parents wanted to, I think Brian had to realize some things he can't be bailed out of and are beyond someone fixing for him...

He as also jealous of her in the same way he possessively "loved" her I'll bet on it... That's another reason they tear such apart/he tore her down. EVERYONE LOVED HER. His type hate that... They attract to it, they want it but they can't figure out the whys because they are soooo messed up themselves... Tear her down, build himself up. I need to stop. I could go on.

Gaslighter for SURE.

I don't think this has been posted and I did not know this. The Petitos' attorney says Roberta wrote her son a letter after Gabby died and before Brian died and that it was full of harsh or bad things I think he said and that on the front of it or the envelope it instructed Brian to burn it after reading it. He also says the Laundrie attorney has possession of it... WTH??!!
