FBI now involved in ongoing search for missing 11-year-old Colorado Springs boy

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now involved in the ongoing search for a missing/endangered 11-year-old Colorado Springs boy who went missing Monday afternoon, and the task force investigating his disappearance is organizing a team of volunteers to start searching for him.

Gannon Stauch was believed to be a runaway after he left his home southeast of Colorado Springs between 3:15 and 4 p.m. on Monday. But as the week progressed, his disappearance was upgraded to a missing/endangered person case.

His stepmother said he left his home on foot to play at a friend’s house down the street on Monday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies and major crimes detectives had taken “extraordinary steps” to locate the boy, the sheriff’s office said. They were actively searching for evidence and taking witness statements, a sheriff’s office news release issued earlier this week read.

“He’s very young, it’s dark and cold outside and we want to bring Gannon to safety,” the sheriff’s said in a Facebook post earlier this week.

On Thursday afternoon, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and other task force members, as well as Stauch’s parents, hosted a news conference to update the community on his disappearance, discuss the steps being taken in the investigation, and to notify people in the area that they are organizing volunteers to begin a community search effort in coming days.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mitch Mahalko said the sheriff’s office received the investigation on Tuesday afternoon and started doing interviews and collecting video surveillance and talking to neighbors, working to collect new leads.

He said that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and FBI got involved after the case was upgraded to a missing/endangered child case. The FBI’s team specializes in search and rescue and “will be a good partner” in the investigation, Mahalko said.

He said the investigation was active and that authorities were conducting interviews with witnesses and collecting evidence – exhausting every lead they receive.

Mahalko said investigators were looking at “persons of interest” in the case as people who might be able to give them additional information on Stauch’s whereabouts.

He declined to say where authorities had been searching but confirmed that investigators had been in contact with some trash companies in El Paso County and in the Lorson Ranch area.

Kirby stressed that people with tips should report them to their tip line – 719-520-6666 – and not on social media because any tips sent to the sheriff’s office on social media will not be considered.

The latest I could find :(

From the article:

At one point, another the crime lab and an unmarked van could be seen backing into the driveway. Investigators carried a large item, covered in brown paper, out of the house and loaded it into the lab.

Thanks for the article. I wonder what all the long items are. If he was killed like on a hike or something like that and seen getting into her vehicle, one would not think there would be much to find in the house. I notice between different searches the front porch changed too with the yellow chair, etc. towards the end with refuse can etc instead of upright near the door to sit on so maybe they did move out and/or have to get out and the house is locked down.

Am I wrong or has the SM been quiet lately where she was so vocal online? I haven't really looked.

You're quite right LS has been quiet lately. I guess she lawyered up. What could that long item be, perhaps a baseball bat? Just speculation. Keep in mind that he could still walk to the car on monday.

I thought I saw that three long things were carried out over the course of the visits. Two in one photo. Of course this department has been good at keeping things hush and maybe the size of the items carried out are not comparable to what is really in them and/or they are a distraction?

One other thought I had and maybe it is far fetched(?), is that she was put out of the home (SM) if this is that home, and Gannon's father may have had reasons to not trust how she treated Gannon through their time (or hints) and he found things afterwards relating to her general treatment of him when he was gone?

Finally, her daughter, etc. or Gannon's dad or the SM herself may have shared that she did have issues with him or did not treat him well (if she did)? Did they find something in the attic, etc.? Like you saying a baseball bat or anything for that matter... It almost seemed like this last trip they were after specific thing(s).

The fact he was allegedly walking to the truck per the neighbor's video makes one wonder.... You wouldn't think much would be found in the house. That doesn't mean though there are not looking for something prior or to make an abuse or neglect charge stick relating to maybe how she treated him (like in hindsight)?

Then again, it could be nothing. All just speculation on my part.

This is just so weird, I would think that if he was killed inside the house LE would have spent more time there. If he wasn't, so what do they think they can learn there? They must be looking for something specific .

Another search tomorrow.

Gannon Stauch stepmom reveals where she went the day Colorado boy disappeared [EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW]

[...]

Neighbor’s Security Footage
Neighbor Roderick Drayton provided home security footage to FOX31 Denver that showed Gannon leaving home with his stepmother in a red Nissan Frontier truck at around 10:20 a.m. Drayton reportedly said the security footage was from January 27.

Tecia Stauch returned home in the truck the same day at around 2:20 p.m, Drayton said. He added that Tecia Stauch returned home alone, without Gannon.

Stauch denied the allegation.

Stauch told CrimeOnline that Gannon was with her when she arrived back home and that as he exited the truck, he was holding a white bag in his hand.

Stach theorized that Drayton may have provided the incorrect date of the surveillance footage, since her teen daughter arrived home on January 27 at around 4:18 p.m., and parked in the same spot her truck was spotted in on security footage.

“We both couldn’t have parked there,” Stauch said. “Something is not right. I even helped [my stepdaughter] get the bike out of the garage, and then her and [my teen daughter] went to Dollar Tree. Truck was on the road then.”

Stauch added that she clearly remembered giving Gannon a white bag to hold on January 27, “in case he puked.” She said the little boy had “pooped in his pants” the day prior and had been having issues with his stomach.

Another security footage clip aired on FOX31 Denver showed the red truck parked on the curb in front of the Stauch house. A boy who appeared to be Gannon exited the truck wearing a backpack.

It’s unclear what day that particular footage was captured, but Stauch said it showed her arriving home with Gannon on January 27.

“This is definitely Monday when we got back,” Stauch said, referring to the clip. “Same clothes and he had a bag in his hand…Something’s not right. I have said from day one that I never backed in [the driveway] when he and I returned.”

CrimeOnline reached out to Drayton for comment, but he was not immediately available.

Stauch admitted the footage that captured her leaving on the morning of January 27 was likely correct. She said she did back the truck in the driveway that morning while she let it “warm-up.” She added that Gannon dropped one of his electronics as he was getting into the truck, and she picked it up for him.

Authorities have not confirmed or denied the accuracy of the surveillance footage. There was no date listed on the footage that Drayton provided to local media.

Drayton told FOX 31 that something was “not right” with Gannon, adding that the boy looked “drugged” and sluggish as he walked to the truck on January 27.

“I saw him come out of the house, get into the truck. Something’s not right,” Drayton said. “She came back, locked her truck; nobody got out of the truck.”

The Nissan Frontier and Paths Taken
Tecia Stauch said she drove her husband’s truck on January 27 as a way to cut down on mileage on her own vehicle. She explained that her car was leased and she would have to pay a fee or have to buy the car outright if she went over certain miles each month.

She also said she needed the room in the back of the truck to bring used sports equipment to “Play it Again Sports,” a sporting goods store that buys and sells new and used sporting goods. Stauch said she planned to shop for hockey equipment for Gannon since it was the only sport he had shown interest in.

They later went to Castle Rock to find a new bicycle for Al Stauch, who was out of town working at the time, Stauch said.

Stauch admitted that she left her phone at home on January 27, but said she had an Apple smartwatch on the entire time, which can easily track her whereabouts.

Tecia explained her whereabouts may seem confusing because she “took the back roads” that morning, “because there had been a wreck.” She said at one point, she got lost and had to turn around. She also said she took exit 163, off of Highway 105, but did not remember the exact time.

When asked why Gannon missed school yet went out shopping on the same day, Stauch said he stayed out school mostly because he was embarrassed that he might have an accident in class, since he was dealing with bouts of both constipation and diarrhea.

Stauch added that Gannon’s medication caused him to have stomach issues and bowel problems.

The Security System
Tecia Stauch said after they returned home on January 27, Gannon seemed to be feeling OK before he left for a friend’s house. He exited through a door near the basement area, where his bedroom is, according to Stauch.

CrimeOnlinee obtained a copy of Stauch’s ADT home alarm report that showed activity in the basement and living at the same time at around 3 p.m.

Stauch said she and Gannon were the only ones home at the time, aside from their dogs, who were outside in the backyard. She added that her 9-year-old stepdaughter arrived home from school at around 3:15 p.m. and did not see Gannon.

Stauch’s 17-year-old daughter reportedly arrived home from work at around 4:38 p.m. and minutes later, left with the 9-year-old to go to a Dollar General store. She, too, did not see Gannon, according to Stauch.

Hmm. Now her daughter did not see Gannon?? One would think most of this could be verified. Why are they still checking the home? Now she does not know the friend he went to see? I thought she said she provided that info. She seems to have too much information and two many reasons for things... Off of my first read of this article anyhow.

Rental vehicle re stepmom. Heard rumors before, now we have a news article about it.

Innocent until proven guilty right? Kind of a hard one to feel that way about here. This is worth reading. She has so very many excuses for everything...

I'm supposed to believe that they rented a car because Gannon might be afraid if they saw the regular car? Yet she was too cheap to drive her leased car because it would get too many miles on it?

Go ahead and just arrest this woman She's giving me a freakin headache and she's nothing but a liar..

I do not think this story is going to end well, I'm sorry. 😢

I know right? I figure they are going to let her talk herself right into a box.

The leased car story is ridiculous but one theme that seems to keep popping up out of her mouth is if Gannon was scared to come back or to them, etc. The other day she also mentioned him soiling himself. Not hard to put 2 and 2 together there.

There are elements of premeditation here if she did it of course and depending on when things were done and where. They can't arrest her soon enough for my liking and i hope they throw away the key as well.

The top talked about recent cases right now are all full of liars apparently. We have Gannon, Evelyn, Josh and Tylee and family member(s) are not helping and instead appear guilty. Not one child has been found in any case. Makes it harder to prosecute or arrest and I suppose they would prefer to have that.
