New Canaan mom Jennifer Dulos is missing: Here’s what we know

Fotis Dulos, 51, is the estranged husband of Jennifer Dulos, 50. She has been missing since May 24, 2019. Fotis Dulos operates a building company, The Fore Group. He has built custom homes in Fairfield and Litchfield counties and the Farmington Valley. In her initial divorce filing, Jennifer Dulos described her husband’s affinity for water skiing, which she characterized as an “obsession.” She said he insisted on their children training to be world-class water skiers, and had them on a strict training regimen that she believed was dangerous and excessive, and sometimes would go on from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Michelle Traconis, a Connecticut woman charged in connection with the disappearance of author Jennifer Farber Dulos — her lover’s estranged wife — is set to go on trial four days later than originally scheduled.

The decision to push the trial’s start date from Monday to next Thursday was the result of an alternate juror being dismissed on account of financial hardship, according to the Hartford Courant. The six jurors who will hear Traconis’ case in Stamford Superior Court remain in place. Two alternates are still available, with a third expected to be chosen soon.

Farber Dulos, a mother of five from New Canaan, has been missing for nearly five years and is presumed dead. The alleged victim was going through a long and contentious divorce with Fotis Dulos, who was romantically involved with Traconis when his wife disappeared.
This one is heading towards five years old since she disappeared... Another that there is just no excuse for.

I think I knew this before but forgot. A six member jury... Don't hear of that too often. For some reason, I think FL is another state that has that but I could be wrong...

I'm not really sure what I think of that. I am generally not pro defendant as in general I think most charged are charged because there is enough evidence but I don't think six sounds fair to the defendant in any case. Personally I think 12 is too many, I think 8 to 10 would be more fair in both directions but we are used to 12 and that generally works, big enough to have one or a few who may see the other side and a big enough number hard to get all to agree UNLESS plenty of reason to think the same.

Court declares Jennifer Dulos dead more than 4 years after she disappeared

More than four years after Jennifer Dulos disappeared, a court has declared her dead.

“The over-whelming evidence submitted to the Court supports the claim that Jennifer sustained non-survivable injuries,” the decision states.

“Extensive efforts have been made by local and State Police authorities to locate her body. To date, more than four years have passed and the body of Jennifer has not been located. Neither Jennifer’s mother, children or other family members and friends have been contacted by Jennifer since May 24, 2019. The inescapable conclusion is Jennifer is dead,” Osterndorf wrote.

Fotis Dulos was dating Michelle Troconis when Jennifer disappeared and Troconis was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, tampering with physical evidence, hindering prosecution and additional charges.

She pleaded not guilty and her trial is expected to start later this week.

I just watched something on this case doing a full overview pretty much and I knew they had things on Troconis but I don't think I realized how much or kept up with that part. They have a LOT imo. Strong case.

I'm not finding trial coverage yet today and not sure why.

I guess there are tons of witnesses on the list and lined up and two of them are the victim's children. Expected to be a long trial, many weeks if they put up even 1/2 of the witnesses.

I to this day cannot understand how both murder defendants were out on bail especially when both violated bail/bond conditions. Had they not been, one of the main murdering perps would still likely be alive. I find all of this part still questionable to this day. I guess monied people fare differently. She'd be up a creek without her parents' money imo. He never had any that was fairly made or his imo. I think his only interest in Tronconis was financial as his well dried up from the Farbers. I was reminded this morning of how she tried to act like she couldn't speak or understand English (Troconis), What a stupid crock of sh*t.

Anyhow, haven't found coverage yet today.

This one says there was a ton of media presence yesterday but hardly any today. It seems as if there is trial today and this was written based on the people outside this morning (few I gather for reporters). Still not sure why Law and Crime, etc. wouldn't have one up ready to go or already going (by now).

This article has some more info on day one, etc.

I don't know that I'll watch any. I have a single day off this week and it is today and I need every minute of it. But if anyone wants to, the feed is here and can fill us in hopefully.

This one isn't in my top five of cases interested in but I am in almost all and it is on the list.

She's just a total yuck who never adulted and helped kill and/or dispose of the wife of another man and the mother of their children when she has a child herself. I can't even imagine what her folks do (if ever knew, can't recall) that they have been able to private attorney her through all of these years. She did this all for a total yuck of a disgusting man who then killed himself and leaves her facing trial.

And then that Kent Mawhinney guy too or however it is spelled, the dirty attorney who is involved and also facing trial.

What a bunch of greedy losers. Bumbling idiots as well. On camera all over the city dumping garbage bags just for starters.

I watched a recap a few nights back and there's more evidence than I realized. A lot more.

And both of them imo should have been jailed throughout and certainly should have once violating conditions.

This trial is expected to go until MARCH per something I just watched. :thud:Harvard Lawyer Lee is who I watched who also commented on the very unusual thing of no opening statements for context for the jury in this case.

How would you like to be a juror with life interrupted that long in this one?

I honestly don't see why any trial should ever have to take that long.

Judge in Michelle Troconis trial allows testimony on blood field tests, despite objection from defense

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Michelle Troconis' defense team faced a slight setback Friday in her trial for murder conspiracy and evidence tampering in the disappearance and presumed death of Jennifer Dulos.

A judge rejected the defense's attempt to keep some testimony from the jury.

The second day of the trial spent several hours on so-called "presumptive evidence," specifically field testing of suspected blood by crime scene investigators with chemicals such as luminol.

"It's sort of like fairy dust. They spray an aerosol, and if it glows one of the things that it might show is blood," said defense attorney Jon Schoenhorn.

Schoenhorn argued courts have found such testing is unreliable and wanted testimony about it to be disallowed.

After reading the case law, Judge Kevin Randolph allowed the evidence in.

The bulk of Friday's testimony came from Matthew Reilly, a retired state police detective who gathered evidence at the home of Jennifer Dulos days after she disappeared.

"Missing person investigation, where they suspected foul play," Reilly said.

Dulos was in the midst of an ugly divorce from Fotis Dulos and a bitter custody battle over their five children.

Troconis was dating Fotis Dulos. She allegedly conspired with him to murder Jennifer Dulos and helped him dispose of evidence.

Prosecutors are painstakingly building the case that Dulos was murdered at her home and her body was secretly removed and hidden.

Through two days of testimony, no witness has mentioned Troconis. It could be well into next week before the jury hears direct testimony about her alleged involvement.

"I think it's going to be quite a while, and that's all I want to say right now," said Schoenhorn.

Judge Randolph told the jury to expect a long trial. He hopes for a conclusion before March 1.

Good! Luminol and like products are an aid in my opinion and from there they test no? Judge referred to case law. Also good.

He even said he hopes for a possible end by March 1st. I had heard March as well from a podcaster. Poor jury, that is a LONGGGG time and that is IF done by then...

There's a lot going on or starting to in quite a few cases as courts finally get back into the swing after the holidays.

Here is Day 3 of this one.

While it was likely just a juror saying something to assure or smooth an awkward situation, it resulted with a juror dismissed and one other left on that was present. Judge had to err on the side of caution I suppose even though nothing big was said an it as probably just a comment as to stepping back and doing right on not getting on the elevator and allowing the guard and jurors to go on on it alone. The story is a bit longer than that but that's the outcome and likely scenario but that juror is gone. Personally I think things have gotten ridiculous but can't take a chance ya know. At firs they thought it was the guard/guy from marshall's office that said love you but turned out it was a juror who said that. Worth a watch for the whole story but I don't think anyone much is following htis one anyhow here. I barely get time to see a rare update as well.

I haven't been able to watch this or keep up even a little but apparently the nanny was quite a witness for the prosecution.

She still I think takes care of these kids after their mom's murder.

Complicated DNA evidence dominates testimony in Michelle Troconis trial Thursday

A complicated day of testimony from the Connecticut Forensic Science lab on analysis done on samples sent from Jennifer Dulos’ home, garage, and cars investigators collected. The samples were sent for DNA analysis, and explanation of that analysis dominated testimony Thursday.

A member of the State Forensic Lab team, Kristen Madel, testified to how they test for DNA, and how they establish a DNA profile for Jennifer Dulos through her toothbrush, as well as profiles for other members close to the case including the Dulos children, Fotis Dulos, and Michelle Troconis.

“We want to try to include or exclude a person from that evidentiary profile,” said Madel.

The lab in this case deals in probability. Essentially, how likely a DNA profile from evidence collected matches DNA taken from the individuals close to the case versus some random person.

Jennifer Dulos’ DNA taken from her toothbrush was found in multiple suspected blood stains in the garage, kitchen, Range Rover, and Chevy Suburban.

“It was 100 billion times more likely if it originated the source of the profile from the swabbing of the electric toothbrush, than an unknown person,” explained Madel.

But when going through different samples of evidence collected, Jennifer’s DNA was not the only DNA present on a doorknob between the home and the garage, or on the kitchen sink faucet.

“100 billion times more likely to be Fotis Dulos and the swabbing of the electric toothbrush,” Madel explained, referencing Jennifer’s DNA profile from the electric toothbrush.

Fotis’ DNA was of particular interest on the faucet, because according to the nanny’s testimony Wednesday, and an original arrest warrant, Jennifer Dulos was adamant she did not want Fotis anywhere near her home, taking steps to ensure he could not enter the home, and he was not supposed to enter the property without designated court supervision.

“She did not want him entering the home at all,” said nanny Lauren Almeida in testimony Wednesday.

Defense attorney Jon Schoenhorn isn’t disputing the presence of Jennifer’s DNA, but is holding the state to their burden of proof to prove a murder occurred involving Fotis, and maintains his client, Michelle Troconis’ DNA was nowhere to be found.

“There is no place in New Canaan or in that Suburban that has Michelle Troconis’ DNA,” Schoenhorn said outside court Thursday.

Based on testimony Thursday, Michelle Troconis’ DNA did not appear and was ruled out of many of the samples analyzed in the forensics lab, only appearing in a few reports as “inconclusive.”

Madel is expected back on the stand for continued cross examination Friday.

She is on video on their trash run and had an alibi note, etc. And a LOT more.

Put her away where mommy and daddy can't help her any longer.

Kind of like Epstein, Fotis here and the perps in Guillen that the male bails by suicide or suicide by cop Kind of leaving the woman to deal with the consequences but deserved. Just unfair he didn't have to. Doesn't excuse the co conspirator though.

I don't remember ever hearing of a six member jury.
