Authorities search for Missouri doctor who has been missing more than a week

Authorities in a small Missouri town are searching for an emergency room physician a week-and-a-half after his mysterious disappearance.

Dr. John Forsyth, 49, was last heard from May 21. Police said he was reported missing when he failed to show up for work that day at Mercy Hospital in Cassville, a town of 3,100 residents deep in the Missouri Ozarks.

Forsyth’s black Infiniti was found in a remote area near an aquatic park in Cassville. The car was unlocked with his wallet, two phones and a laptop inside.

Several law enforcement agencies, including the Missouri State Highway Patrol, have joined in the search using people, dogs and drones. Forsyth’s family set up a Facebook page seeking information.

Richard Forsyth said his brother had been at the Cassville hospital for about 15 years. He described John Forsyth as a doting father who became engaged to his girlfriend just a couple of days before he disappeared.

REVEALED: ER doctor, 49, who 'worked in crypto' in his down time and 'vanished into thin air' after his car was found in Ozarks parking lot was texting his new fiancé moments before he disappeared

An ER doctor in Missouri who spent most of his down time cryptocurrency, had just gotten engaged days after finalizing his divorce and was planning to visit his children when he bizarrely vanished without a trace.

Dr. John Forsyth, 49, was last seen leaving Mercy Hospital in Cassville around 7am on May 21 and had been texting his new fiancé to tell her that he had finished his shift and he would see her later that day.

But just over a week has gone by and no one has seen or heard from Forsyth, whose disappearance has baffled his family. They say the first red flag was when the doctor uncharacteristically failed to show up for his shift at the hospital that night.

A short time later, authorities located his black Infiniti sedan abandoned at the Cassville Aquatic Park in the Ozarks. The car keys were inside, along with Forsyth's wallet, passport and briefcase.

A further search revealed that two cell phones were left behind in Forsyth's luxury RV that he stayed in outside the hospital. But there was no sign of the doctor.

The Cassville Police Department launched a search for Forsyth, covering 90 acres on last week Tuesday but did not find any evidence of the doctor and have released limited details about the investigation.

Forsyth's younger brother, Richard Forsyth, told The Daily Beast that it was clear something was wrong when he missed his 7pm shift at the hospital. Forsyth never missed a shift without telling someone in the 15 years he had been there.

'He wouldn't miss a shift even if his eyeballs were hanging out of their sockets,' Richard said. 'It was an immediate red flag.'

Forsyth, who is the father of seven children, had recently gotten engaged, just days after his divorce was finalized earlier this month, Richard explained. The newly engaged couple had been texting the morning he vanished.

'His fiancé was texting him around 7am… and as he was leaving he was texting her things like 'Hey, my shift's over' and 'I'll see you a little bit later,' Richard said.

'And then minutes later, he stops responding to text messages and is seen walking toward his RV.'

'John's RV was found unlocked [at the hospital], which is very uncharacteristic,' he said. 'His cellphones were inside, which is also very uncharacteristic because he always has his cellphone.'

Richard also told the outlet that security footage showed Forsyth's Infiniti pulling into the aquatic park parking lot, when a white SUV arrives and parks near him.

'It leaves a few minutes later and [John] is seen walking around maybe 10 to 15 minutes after that,' Richard said police told him. 'And then he walks away from his car.'

The Infiniti was later found by police at the park in a 'in a very hidden location, in a place where it seems like cars are not supposed to go,' Richard said.

Richard said the last time he saw his brother was at dinner last week where he 'seemed really happy and excited' and that he saw no indication that Forsyth was might have been anxious about anything.

'Nothing seemed weird,' he added. 'Which makes John vanishing that much weirder.'

Brother: Authorities told family that body of missing Missouri ER doctor was found in Arkansas

The body of a Missouri emergency room doctor who has been missing for more than a week has been found in northwest Arkansas, his brother told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Dr. John Forsyth was last heard from in text messages around 7 a.m. May 21. His brother, Richard Forsyth, said authorities called the family Tuesday night to say his brother was found deceased. He said he and other family members were waiting for more details from detectives.

This one is weird in the way he was found in Arkansas but his car was found unlocked and personal items in it at Cassville where he was staying. Was the car planted? If he was the one that parked it there, why leave his stuff in in and how did he get to where he was found? I'm leaning to foul play based on his car vs where he was found unless he just walked...???

Body of Missouri ER doctor had apparent gunshot wound, was found in Arkansas lake

A missing emergency room doctor from Missouri whose body was found in northwestern Arkansas died from an apparent gunshot wound, authorities said Wednesday, but they're still investigating what happened in the week since he was last seen.

A kayaker found the body of Dr. John Forsyth, 49, on Tuesday afternoon in Beaver Lake, a large reservoir in Arkansas, the Benton County Sheriff's Office said. No further information would immediately be available, authorities said, and they did not specify if the gunshot wound may have been caused by someone else or was self-inflicted.

Walking to the nearest lake in Arkansas would have been 20+ miles. Doable I guess, but...

I highly doubt he did, just that it was the only possibility I could see happening with the facts given...and this is also in a very meth infested area. It's rampant so that would make it also feasible. I do not think that is what happened though at all.

Beaver Lake is HUGE and very popular, especially on holiday weekends. I can't believe he wasn't found over the holiday weekend if he was actually in it then.

this definitely sways me to foul play.

The hospital he worked in is basically a glorified clinic. If life flight is coming, it's not to bring anybody there, it's to take them to either Springfield or possibly Little Rock like so many rural hospitals in Missouri. I really can't believe it even has a working hospital at all there since the population is only about 3 thousand.

I'm just now reading this entire thread.

I was leaning towards suicide somewhat through all the posts until he was found.

Just an aside, we have hospitals in towns that only have a couple of thousand people, a couple I think are even less than that.

I had plenty of comments and thoughts throughout reading but no time to go into right now but also the finding in a lake dead by gunshot wound would seem to indicate murder...

I mean I guess he could have stood in the water and shot himself... Or stood in a boat and shot himself and then fell out of it but seems highly unlikely. Never heard of one that did that...

It just keeps getting weirder.

Missouri doctor, 49, and father of eight found shot dead in Ozarks lake soon after proposing marriage was KIDNAPPED and released a year ago, claims brother who launched crypto firm with him

The brother of a Missouri doctor who was found shot dead in an Ozarks lake this week has said he was the victim of a mysterious prior kidnapping attempt that may have been 'crypto related'.

In an unusual twist, Forsyth's brother Richard told DailyMail.com that a little over a year ago, the doctor was kidnapped and threatened by unidentified individuals.

Richard, who founded the crypto firm OnFo with his brother, said in a brief phone interview that in February 2022, John Forsyth was kidnapped and then released, but never filed a police report.

Richard said he first learned about the kidnapping through a mutual friend, who only came forward to describe the incident to the family after John went missing earlier this month.

The brother said he believed the kidnapping was 'crypto related' but that he did not know anything else about the perpetrators from the account of the mutual friend, who wished to remain anonymous due to ongoing safety concerns.

Richard cautioned that there was no evidence yet linking the 2022 incident with John's death, but added: 'It stands out very stark in the tableaux of facts that have emerged about the case.'

'It was cold. He was zip-tied. He was made to feel very unsafe and taken on a car ride with some people to a bridge and was threatened,' Richard told Fox News Digital, which first reported the alleged kidnapping.

'He did not file a police report because he believed he was in continued danger,' the brother added.

Messages left with the Benton County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol were not immediately returned.

Authorities said Wednesday that they're still investigating what happened in the week between Forsyth's disappearance and the discovery of his body.

Okay, this is getting downright strange. The brother found the crypto thing with him...? Was he kidnapped too or no longer in crypto when that happened to his brother...?

He came to find out about it though.

You know I wondered about financial issues along the way as I read this from first post to last, thinking maybe drugs, maybe something and the divorce maybe left him unable to pay something or someone back, ,etc. That was BEFORE I read he was found dead in water by gunshot and BEFORE I read of the crypto thing...

There's more to this quite clearly... A lot more.

Except how did he get there since his car was still in Cassville?

We hsve so many counties thst hsve no hospital what so ever now. Many that hsve none, even counting glorified clinics, within over two hours away. We have very few hospitals that can handle much besides very minor issues. Its a huge problem here.

Well that's what I'm saying. He likely didn't do this to himself.

I don't know. Another "kidnapping"? Went to meet someone somewhere and was then under their control?

Is it know he got there alive or just the body was dumped there?

I read all the posts but had no time and still don't to go into all the links.

I can think of one independent one here yet in a small town.

Most of the others are under the umbrella of a bigger system but they do exist in our small towns yet. Not all small towns, but a few just to keep I would say a few hospitals in our more rural areas/towns. Some don't do it all but a few do quite a bit. Another system in one of our towns with a bigger hospital. Some don't do things like the most major surgeries or chemo or radiation, but one or two do in the one system.

But even my surgery, the hospital in a bigger city didn't do although they do just about everything else for surgeries though, which is why I was sent to Rochester.

We have two systems, Mayo and Marshfield and both have hospitals in smaller towns under their umbrella to cover our part of the state I guess.

I imagine it is a big problem there if you have a large area not covered at all.

Even with what we have it is a problem at times. If you are in the one system, you are an hour''s drive, two hours per treatment, away from the hospital that does it. We dealt with that with my brother. With my mom, she was in the other system and she was able to do hers right in her hometown area.

Being over 2 hours away, one way, is not uncommon at all here in a lot of areas and that can be just to get to a glorified clinic type hospital.

Missing Cassville doctor’s death to be investigated as a homicide

John Forsyth’s brother, Richard Forsyth, spoke with authorities in Arkansas yesterday who told him they are investigating Forsyth’s death as a homicide.

“He had no guns,” Richard Forsyth said. “I talked to him about that. He didn’t want to have a gun.”

Meanwhile, Missouri law enforcement is still investigating the missing person’s case to try to figure out how he went missing in the first place, according to Richard Forsyth.

“At this point, it looks like he was abducted and killed and thrown into a lake,” Richard said. “Just looking at it from my point of view, that’s what it seems like.”

Richard Forsyth and the rest of John’s family are awaiting the results of his autopsy, but Richard says closure for the family can’t happen until they know what happened to their loved one.

The brother is right, it is exactly what it looks like with what is known so far. However, I do think these days per other cases and per LE that the rule is (not that all follow it) all suicides or at least undetermined ones be investigated first as a homicide so not sure LE saying that means anything.

IF it was a suicide, it would be an almost unheard of one to be found in water after taking your own life with a gun... I guess he could have injured himself, wandered in and then died by the gunshot rather than by drowning but seems very unlikely. Or as I mentioned above, shot himself in a boat and on death fell overboard... OR was found in shallow water but dead by gunshot.

It honestly wasn't even staged by a murderer as a suicide as you wouldn't put the body in water if you wanted people to think it was suicide.

It seems all the way around most likely to be a homicide...

I think a few of us like Grizzly and trust her coverage of cases, maybe even most of us. I just saw she is covering this one or has started to. I haven't watched this yet but thought I'd share it.

His wife was awarded $19,000 a month in child support. See this is something I wondered about. His death so soon after his divorce and his income and number of kids and the financial picture for him, etc. As I read this case just recently through the posts here, I was preparing to make an argument for suicide and then I reached the end as to how he died and where he was found which turned it upside down somewhat... BUT we also don't know enough details to be sure.

I feel pressure was on and then newly engaged and more pressure and the divorce settlement for just a few things....He was living in a motorhome at the hospital wasn't he??? I gather a nice one but still...

On the other hand, it said it was an uncontested divorce judgment but that could mean he didn't show up for it or that they agreed to it....?
