Police seem to be no closer to finding 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan than they were when this story began months ago.

Since that time, the story has gained international attention as it’s taken twists and turns involving a purported cult, dead spouses, delusions of divinity and preparing for the end of the world. Despite all the angles, and the ever-growing number of people related to the case, the facts remain essentially the same as when it was first announced.

The two children remain missing and the parents, Lori (Vallow) Daybell, and her new husband, Chad Daybell, refuse to disclose their whereabouts to police. Both have been named persons of interest in the disappearance of the children. Law enforcement is also investigating the deaths of the Daybells’ previous respective spouses, Charles Vallow and Tammy Daybell, though neither Chad nor Lori have been named suspects in those cases.

Written timeline of events
  • April 3, 2018 - Tylee Ryan's father, Joseph Ryan, dies. Death ruled heart attack.
  • December 2018 - Chad Daybell & Lori Vallow make first appearance on Preparing a People podcast.
  • February 2019 - Charles Vallow files for divorce from Lori, claiming she viewed herself as a god preparing for the second coming, and she would kill him if he got in her way.
  • February - April 2019 - Lori disappears for nearly two months, leaving her children with others.
  • June 2019 - Lori's niece demands a divorce from her husband, who says she shares similar beliefs to her aunt.
  • July 11, 2019 - Charles Vallow shot and killed by Lori's brother Alex Cox. Shooting initially ruled self-defense.
  • August 2019 - Lori moves to Rexburg, Idaho with kids
  • September 3, 2019 - Joshua "JJ" Vallow enrolled in school
  • September 23, 2019 - JJ last attended school
  • September 24, 2019 - Lori unenrolls JJ from school, saying she would be homeschooling him.
  • September 2019 - Tylee also seen in September, but it's unclear when and where (she had graduated early)
  • October 2, 2019 - Lori's niece's ex-husband was shot at, missing his head by inches. Shooter was driving a vehicle registered to Charles Vallow.
  • October 9, 2019 - Tammy Daybell, Chad's wife, called 911 and said a masked man shot at her with a paintball gun.
  • October 19, 2019 - Tammy Daybell dies, death is ruled natural
  • October 25, 2019 - Tylee, or someone using her phone, texts a friend
  • Late October / Early November 2019 - Chad Daybell & Lori Vallow get married
  • November 26, 2019 - Welfare check requested for JJ at the request of extended family - police are told he is in Arizona with family, but he is not
  • November 27, 2019 - Police return to serve a search warrant, finding the Daybell's gone
  • December 12, 2019 - Lori's brother, who had shot her ex-husband, dies mysteriously in Arizona
  • December 20, 2019 - Search for JJ and Tylee goes public
  • December 30, 2019 - LE says Lori knows where her children are but will not cooperate
  • January 25, 2020 - Chad & Lori are located in Hawaii, served with a notice that she must produce the children within 5 days
  • January 30, 2020 - Lori fails to produce JJ and Tylee

Wow this is a must watch. Is it Jason Guilliam (spelling?) called in and so much to hear. About all. One thing for instance is he got to know Colby today and talk for a few hours and Brandon too and all with each.

This imo would drive Lori nuts. Forgive the term. And I doubt Chad likes it either, all the bonding between ALL the victims.
 
Jurors are retiring. Will be back in court tomorrow at 8:30 I think they said, 8 or 8:30.

I can only guess one may be having a problem with the DP because it's been several hours...

OR they finally reached one and agreed and will announce tomorrow?

Nate says he will go to AZ for Lori's trial but he does not believe it will go off this year. I'd agree. I think it unlikely. She is after no speedy trial these days.
 
LIve just finished. Great show.

Since they stayed so long but did not reach it tonight, it seems like Chad may not get the DP and maybe one or more have an issue with it. Hard to say. Or maybe they reached it but won't announce until tomorrow, etc. I think he deserves it not that life in prison is not okay BUT these days they are letting ones out that never ever would have been let out and who knows what will go on in future years. The likes of him and Lori should never ever be out amongst the public again and no chance of such should ever be risked imo.

Jmo but so long as someone as evil as he is breathes air, there is risk.
 
So Chad didnt want to present any mitigation regarding his sentencing. That's a little odd isn't it? So he wouldn't say it was because of his religious beliefs for example?

10:40 a.m. The jurors have been seated. Boyce says the delay this morning was due to “several administrative matters.”
10:38 a.m. Chad says he understands and has chosen not to present evidence in support of himself at sentencing.
10:38 a.m. Boyce reminds Chad that he has the right to present mitigation and defend himself before the jury deliberates over his sentence. Reminder – a mitigating factor is something that does not justify or excuse an act or offense, but may reduce the degree of moral culpability, and thereby reduce the penalty.
10:36 a.m. Boyce says the defense intends not to present mitigation today.
10:35 a.m. Boyce says we are quickly taking up a matter before the jury comes in.

11:39 a.m. Court is taking a 30-minute recess before Chad will be sentenced on the remaining charges. The victims and families are in tears.
11:37 a.m. Judge Boyce will also sentence Judge Boyce for the insurance fraud charges now.
11:37 a.m. Chad Daybell has been given the death penalty by the jury. Chad is still emotionless.

11:36 a.m. The clerk is reading every aggravating factor, and all of them do not find that the death penalty is unjust.
11:36 a.m. It looks as if one of the jurors is crying.
11:35 a.m. The microphone has broken. They are fixing it.
11:32 a.m. The jury has found that the mitigating factors are not compelling enough, that the death penalty is unjust.
11:28 a.m. The jury has found that ALL aggravating factors alleged by the state DO exist.
11:27 a.m. Boyce says the verdict form is “long and complicated” so he is taking a moment to review it.
11:26 a.m. The bailiff is giving the sentencing verdict to Judge Boyce.
11:25 a.m. Jurors have been seated.

10:33 a.m. Still sitting in the hallway! I just had a very nutritious and fulfilling Kit Kat bar – breakfast of champions. Sitting in the hallway with me are about 20 interested public/media members, Larry and Kay Woodcock, and two bailiffs. Tammy’s family has not come upstairs.

I guess it depends. A court order may take precedence over a solicitor's bill. I am also thinking about the money that Chad gave to each of his kids. They may have to give that back to the insurance company via the court. You cannot give away ill-gotten gains and get away with it in a court, if you owe money, especially to an insurance company. If he gave away $9k to each of his children, for example, that's $45k right there.

YVW. I just had another thought about the financials. When Lori was sentenced, was there anything in her sentencing that required her to pay back the Social Security claimed fraudulently for JJ and Tylee? IIRC it was approx $6k per month from Sept 2019 until when the kids were finally found in June 2020, so 9 months at $6k would be around $54k she fraudulently claimed. Does anyone remember?

She received a sentence of 10 years for the grand theft conviction and was also ordered to pay more than $60,000 in fines, civil penalties and restitution.
