Coos County Sheriff searching for 5-year-old boy missing since Saturday

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a 5-year-old who went missing over the weekend.

Police say Joshua James McCoy has been missing since 5:30 p.m. on Saturday from a home on Stage Road in Hauser. That’s when his mother discovered he wasn’t inside the house after the two of them had taken a nap.

Joshua is described as 3 foot 6 inches tall, thin, with brown hair and eyes.

The sheriff’s office says Joshua is autistic so he may not respond when called to.

Police are thankful for the community members who have offered assistance, but officers say the search and rescue team is not currently “seeking additional manpower due to the nature of the proven process of searches and evidence preservation.”

This says hypothermia was a contributing cause of death, not THE cause of death. Also quite a bit of history in this article.

Also states no arrests expected. :sigh:

Oregon boy, 5, was on the radar of child welfare workers when he died; no arrests expected, prosecutor says | The Daily Chronicle
So is it possible then that he got into something and was "unconscious" and she took him out there, where the weather contributed to the final result?

Because the CLEAN FEET, no cuts/scratches from walking naked through the woods, and the TIRE TRACKS do not add up with the "wandered away" theory.

I can accept no scratches but his feet would have definitely looked like they had been wandering around barefoot for that far and he would probably have at least dirt on him since he was naked. I can also accept that he constantly and consistently shed his clothes, but pretty sure he would have been cold and came back shortly.

Seriously! What mother ever gets to do that?? Doesn’t sound right.
Actually, I’ve heard of it in a case in the past. (Can’t remember which one.) Where the mom took a nap in the middle of the day and when she woke up, her baby was gone. This was a baby that couldn’t crawl out either. I think if you’re doing some heavy duty partying the night before, you might pass out from exhaustion. Still, what mother would be so irresponsible? This one, it appears!

Court documents detail the efforts made to find Joshua McCoy and the subsequent investigation into his cause of death. While the cause of his death has not yet been made public, authorities seized dozens of prescription pill bottles from the North Bend home where Joshua lived with his mother, Angela German. German's whereabouts are currently unknown, according to court records.
Is it possible they're saying he died of hypothermia and no arrests/charges are expected because of this??

there was articulable evidence suggesting that phone data showed Joshua had walked away from his residence.

...new information has come to light that indicates authorities have evidence of Joshua lost in the woods, and that the official position of the Sheriff’s office is not one based on the suspicion of foul play.

But this info totally contradicts what they told us in the beginning about his phone alone. Not sure what to believe now. :sigh:

Pretty sure there is no way to make out mom as "innocent" here. Maybe not of actual murder, but definitely neglect.
Yeah, that’s what I’m wondering if it’s going to be a case of neglect in the long run. But we’ll have to find out. At least they found the little guy. At first, I thought it would be impossible because of the remote area.

Apparently this is a "subscriber only" story. Was able to get the first bit.

Oregon child welfare workers fielded extensive complaints about homelife of boy who died in woods

Oregon child welfare authorities had extensive contact with a Coos County woman, her family and friends in the months leading up to the death of her young son but they didn’t intervene because she twice left the state with plans to get help caring for the boy, a state review found.

Both trips were brief and ended with Angela German, 43, returning to Oregon.
