Karen Read accused of backing into boyfriend and leaving him to die *TRIAL IN PROGRESS*

This woman didn't do this. I'd be willing to bet that someone in the house did it. Someone in the house looked up "How long will it take for somebody to die in the cold." Karen couldn't have done that search.

Is there a cover up conspiracy?

We have the right to free speech, not the right to scream and yell to disrupt a legal process.
We agree for once. I would call it breach of the peace.
I mean what exactly are they there for? To Free Karen Read. Well she is free isn't she and innocent till proven guilty too. All they have done is poison the jury pool.

Canton police audit released: Full 200-page report, analysis and reaction

An independent audit of the Canton Police Department commissioned amid the backlash over how it handled the investigation into Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe's death and the Sandra Birchmore case was released Tuesday.

The audit began last year and was conducted by the investigative firm 5 Stones Intelligence at a cost of just under $200,000.

Prosecutors accused Karen Read of killing O'Keefe, her boyfriend, and leaving him to die in the snow in January of 2022. Read argued she was framed in a wide-ranging coverup, and the actions of law enforcement — including members of the Canton Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police — have been heavily scrutinized since the onset of her trial.

The murder trial against Read ended with a hung jury over the summer, and her second trial got underway Tuesday morning in Norfolk Superior Court.

Some of the key observations and findings about the O'Keefe case included in the report were:
  • First responding officers should have photographed O'Keefe at the location of where he was found before fire and rescue moved him to the ambulance.
  • All interviews of critical witnesses, including Jennifer McCabe and Kerry Roberts, should have been conducted at the Canton Police Department on Jan. 29, 2022, after John O'Keefe was transported to the hospital.
  • Consensual recorded witness interviews should have been conducted.
  • Massachusetts State Police, along with Canton police, should have maintained a police presence at 34 Fairview Road pending the secondary search conducted by state police crime scene units.
  • All video footage maintained on Canton police computer systems of Karen Read's Lexus SUV while it was housed at the Canton Police Department from Jan. 29 through Feb. 2, 2022, should have been requested and turned over early in the Karen Read case to lead investigators for any action as deemed appropriate.

Yep. They did none of the stuff one would expect of any possible murder investigation, especially for the possible murder of a fellow officer.

4 people are complaining about the buffer zone. It was in the news yesterday or Monday i saw it. That's tough but the judge needs a fair trial without all the yelling noisy fans outside. They can't wear supportivd badges or stuff in the court either.

The jury selection is live. They just got 2 more so 4 selected now. They should have a few more this pm.
USUALLY supportive buttons are on behalf of the victim/s. We couldn't wear them. haven't been in here in some time but Daybell seems stalled and well, i should get up and do something instead if I can manage. Neither seems to be moving.

Just another sh*t show and
attempt to use the system against itself, employ the media, the internet and you name it. Disgusts me quite honestly.

Having trouble finding jurors who haven't heard of the case. What a surprise. Not. Second straight day this has happened.

Also filing made to Supreme court re double jeopardy rule.

I suppose they have. And jurors CAN have heard of a case but then...

I get disgusted with the hypocrisy. D in cases yell about too much publicity yet they are the ones making sure there is such. I am talking generally even. Our court system should never have that or allow it. It's one thing that bothers me in cases and many another.

I can bet you my mom could MAYBE be on this jury, my daughter, etc., there ARE people who if they see it at all, see very little, never enough to form an opinion and so on. Of course the D has saturated with it so... The D and her and I hope that interview comes back to bite them in the butt.

I also hope LE and so on see this or have and are cleaning up their acts. Whether not trained or corrupt, of course, the fact it was not handled perfectly hasn't helped. I have no disagreement that they gave them things to use against.

Brennan is GOOD. He has to deal with things like that of course but he is UP on it.

I haven't been in here much but have basically kept up other than jury selection or now.

Have lived in a place or two I'd say not all were above board. It sure doesn't mean that every perp put away was not guilty.

She did this in my book but I do hope it has MANY cleaning up their acts across the country.

Imo there will never be significant change unless we come together on some things like that, only chance there is. Fat chance probably. Look how divided. I will get off the soapbox.

And probably not be in here as I'll do Daybell first, and life. I have kept abreast of it though elsewhere.

It is sometimes good to watch a saner other side of things I'd say to all.

However, I made my decision on her guilt from the facts. I even lean towards drunken rage and intentional although I would not say they necessarily have enough proof for that part. I think I'm pretty balanced. And that LE needs to be on their job AND clean. I think that's pretty balanced.

I feel for his family BIG TIME. I can't imagine having someone murdered and then this kind of sensation happening. I hated we were advised not to speak and we dealt with on a very smaller basis the other side (family) trying to frame it different while we stayed quiet. I cannot IMAGINE but know it would be beyond bearable and I would not wish it on anyone. It's the KR and Jackson show. It's sickening. The fact this is such a sensation is ridiculous to me. Of course they made it one...

Anyhow, I jumped off your post, sorry, my opinion, not yours to make clear to all, not speaking for you or anyone else. Just doing an overall one of my opinion since I don't come in much and probably won't be much.

She is as sickening to me as Lori Daybell. KR. But my opinion comes from facts. Not the "show".

They have 5 men and 5 women so far. They need at least 6 more jurors.

Jury selection continues Tuesday for a sixth day in the Karen Read trial after the process failed to gain a new juror for the last two days inside Norfolk Superior Court in Dedham, Massachusetts.
Prosecutors accuse Read of hitting and killing her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe, with her SUV and leaving him to die in the snow outside a home in Canton in January 2022.

Karen Read trial

Read argues that she is being framed by several people, including law enforcement.
Read has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of personal injury and death. Her first trial ended with a mistrial due to hung jury.
Last week, Read filed an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, asking for two charges against her to be thrown out on grounds of double jeopardy. On Monday, her attorneys issued another filing to the Supreme Court, asking them to delay her trial until the court decides if it will take up her appeal.

Karen Read jury selection

Over the first three days of jury selection last week, the jury grew to five men and five women. But on Friday and Monday, the judge and attorneys failed to add any more jurors.
On Tuesday, 47 people were brought in for the jury selection process, bringing the total to 382 who have come through over six days. In the fives days it took to find a jury for Read's first trial, 403 people were brought into the courtroom.
The process begins each morning with group questioning. The jury pool is asked if they know witnesses, or other questions that could impact their service.
Each day has led to similar results. The large majority of prospective jurors has said each day they have heard of Read's high-profile case. Many candidates have also said they have already formed an opinion, and some have developed a bias toward one side or the other.
During Tuesday's questioning, 45 out of the 47 people have heard of the case. An additional 27 have formed an opinion and 15 said they have a bias.
After filling out paperwork, jurors meet individually with Judge Beverly Cannone and attorneys. They are either added to the jury or sent home.

How to watch Karen Read trial

The Karen Read trial will be streaming live on CBS News Boston from opening statements right through the verdict.

I think I forgot to add that fat chance is what I hear with the appeal. Of course that's not a positive, but a likely, from ethical lawyers.

They have 12 now. They need 4 more.so maybe two more days?

The jury for Karen Read’s second trial gained three members and lost one on Tuesday, bringing the total number of people picked to 12 across six days of selection.
The juror previously selected dropped out due to personal reasons.
In all, 47 potential jurors were questioned individually by Judge Beverly Cannone and lawyers for both sides on Tuesday. In addition to the three people picked for the jury on Tuesday, one person will return on Wednesday for additional questioning.

The jury comprises six men and six women. Jury selection continues Wednesday, as both sides work to seat 16 jurors for the second trialIt took five full days to seat a jury for Read’s first trial.

What makes jury selection in the Karen Read trial so hard? It’s not just publicity
Leaving court Tuesday, Read said opening statements will be on April 15. Alan Jackson will deliver the opening statement for Read’s defense in the second trial, after David Yannetti delivered it in the first trial. Jackson delivered the closing argument in the first trial.

Almost 400 people have now been questioned to potentially serve on the jury for Read’s second trial.

Cannone then reads out the entire witness list, which contains 150 names, before beginning questioning. After the group questioning, jurors are left to complete a three-page questionnaire.

Only after all that are jurors questioned individually.

During individual questioning, both sides can strike a juror for any reason. Each side gets 16 strikes. Read said her team has used 11 and prosecutors have used 12.

Read, 45, is charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident causing injury or death in connection with the death of her boyfriend, Boston Police officer John O’Keefe.

Read’s defense claims she is being framed and others are responsible for O’Keefe’s death.

Wow. Jackson is lucky his butt isn't sitting back with his wife in CA where he belongs facing complaints with the Bar. Just MY opinion.

KR like Lori better do it while they can... Meaning put on the whole image or try to in either case... One can, the other not so well.

Get a jury, you taint it and then can't get one. Go figure.

Again jmo.

They have 12 and need 4 more. Trial not likely to begin before next Tuesday.

Well at least they aren't crossing over too much yet, both trials, other than jury selection going on here. Stark contrast to Daybell who seated a jury fast and both are pretty high profile. Sounds like here they may not want anyone who has even heard of it or some such. Haven't paid much attn to jury selection but did watch the hearings, etc. and stay up on that.

As a local I should be all over this but I had a gazillion appointments Monday and Tuesday and then got sucked into documentaries today
Noticed you hadn't been around much. Getting to appts and navigating all such brings and paperwork while trying to get better boy I get that one. Or like now you are trying to do the other paperwork for help and so on. I was able to do Daybell live both M & T but now I have an apartment inspection today although I am home for it, but also have to get my leave papers into work, see the dr hasn't sent them to me yet, had to push on them again and an appt tomorrow and more of course. Emailed work. One doctor is out I have tried to reach. HR person at work uhhas been on vacation. Trying to find out from ALL if I shouldn't have had an MRI throughout all of this and so on. NEED groceries. Have to send some emails to my daughter so she can print the attachments as I can't, then she has to get them to me at some point (more forms for bills and such). NEVER ends.

Probably not identical but I sure get it. You probably needed a day and to get sucked into whatever :)

I haven't followed this one much so far as it isn't past jury selection whereas Daybell is going. I'll probably turn it on today but no idea when the fire inspection will come. I hate when they do this. Usually I insist they set a time with me when I worked for sure but since I am home at the moment, I just went with it but now I guess I can wait all day and not know when they are coming and nI'm not liking that either. Have a couple of more things and then these things always result in I need to answer or follow up or get after it all again to stay on top of it on top of trying to get better. Definitely is NOT fun. Hopoe your appts all went well. Hope mine tomorrow sets me back on course.

Daybell picked a jury in no time. Here, well I guess it is going different.

Well it seems they are finding that a high percentage of the jury pool already know about the case. No surprise there really. They are going thru about 50 potentials a day and are getting only a couple each time.
Hmm. I think a few in Daybell knew and were picked, it doesn't automatically exclude. Arguably they are both high profile and that one probably far more so.

The reasons they are though are different. Here this one probably never would have been but for the D and KR making it widely known and poisoned the pool themselves. Wasnt the case in Daybell.

Going through 50 a day doesn't seem like much but I can't recall what's typical, maybe that's the norm. I for one appreciate the info as I'm not looking at the info/news/links in this one right now but I might see a post. Having to pick and choose while getting on things in life and so on.

I'm actually glad they aren't on at the same time (other than jury selection).
