Intense search underway for missing toddler last seen 2 weeks ago

An intense police search is underway for a missing 18-month-old who was last seen two weeks ago, when she was dropped off to her father.

Police identified the child as Kytana Ancog.

“Help me look for my baby. She means the world to me. I love her so much,” said Kytana’s mother Ashley Ancog.

Kytana was dropped off Jan. 31 to her father, Travis Rodrigues, at his Kaulainahee Place address in Aiea.

“She dropped the baby off with him and never got her back,” said Lisa Mora, Kytana’s grandmother. “I just want the public treat it as if it were their child or their grandchild.”

“Maybe you don’t necessarily know where they are today, but let’s say you saw them a couple days ago, maybe even a week ago, where was the last time you saw them and what time? Give us any kind of information. That would be very beneficial to the investigation,” said Sgt. Chris Kim, Honolulu CrimeStoppers Coordinator.

Rodrigues is a convicted felon with a long criminal history.

Girlfriend or not, I would have told him since she was bothering him so much, I'll take her and care for her until the mom gets out of the hospital.

Then I'd go home and call the cops.

Man, this pisses me off soooooooooooo much!
This one has me pis*ed and outraged as well. Is there a new RED because I am seeing a shade of red beyond what I sometimes see in this one!

I had the same thought. I don't care if the woman was drugged up, intoxicated, his "gf", you name it, scared herself. He is yelling at the child to get lost and hitting the baby and worse basically, etc., she managed to leave for a bit, WELL, take the child, tell the guy I will "get her out of your way for you" and TAKE her somewhere ELSE!!!

AND IF this was his girlfriend, she went back to him (fresh hickies) and didn't inquire about the baby she left there in fear???

It certainly would seem to be probably a drug or "need" thing or fear thing. I am speculating that once more sober or under fire and question by LE she came clean and remembered or recalled... Or heard about the child missing and came forward although I think it more likely she was bought in...

I also am not throwing the mom under the bus yet but there are also a LOT of questions there... The maternal grandmother never allegedly heard of the man yet said her daughter was scared of him... I mean who knows, did she have or go back to a current relationship to him? She dropped the daughter off so I don't think she was in the hospital then... So MANY questions...

Oh I bet they are.....

Rodrigues, Carter being held in isolation at OCCC, source says

Two people arrested on suspicion of murder in a case involving a missing toddler have been denied bail reduction, and remain at O'ahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC).

In lieu of bail, Rodrigues, Carter are currently being held in isolation at OCCC, sources say.

An Oahu grand jury has indicted Travis Rodrigues for the alleged murder of his 18-month-old daughter, Kytana Ancog.

This, as the family pleads for the public’s help in finding the child’s body.

The family says they are grateful to police officers and prosecutors for all the work they have done. But they say the agony grows as each day passes not being able to put Kytana’s body to rest.

I hope these two evil losers are having the worst withdrawal from meth there has ever been. Go "dangle" some meth in front of them until they tell where she IS!! I doubt it will take long! And then DON'T give it to them. #$@#%#$

Father of missing toddler told police he shook girl until she was ‘lifeless,’ arranged to dispose of body

Newly-released court documents allege that the father of a toddler who has been missing for two weeks was high on methamphetamine while he brutally beat her and shook her until she appeared lifeless, then arranged to dispose of her body.

According to the court documents released Tuesday, a witness reported seeing the father, 40-year-old Travis Rodrigues, slapping, kicking and swearing at the toddler, 18-month-old Kytana Ancog.

The attack left the child bruised and bleeding, but Rodrigues allegedly told the witness that the blood was chocolate and that she had fallen in the shower.

Rodrigues told investigators that on Feb. 4, he hit and squeezed the girl until she was “appeared lifeless.” He believed she was dead but did not call police, the documents say.

Instead, he admitted to wrapping the child’s body in a bed sheet and placing it in a duffel.

He then met with another acquaintance, 48-year-old Scott M. Carter, who agreed to give Rodrigues a ride to an acquaintance’s house with the girl’s body still in the car, police said.

Rodrigues remained at the house, while Carter then drove off and said, “don’t worry about it, I’ll take care of it.”
I haven't even been able to respond before know, I've been so upset about what this poor sweet child went through in her short life.

It's a good thing I don't live in Hawaii, someone needs to make sure he gets what's coming to him. I will leave it at that.

Rest in peace Kytana, you sweet angel.😇

It is a brutal one and the details extremely hard to bear. I certainly hope these charges increase and they FIND her as well. I hope actually they get everything they deserve while behind bars in the form of REAL justice!!

Legal experts question if Kytana’s body will be found despite confession

Legal experts question whether the body of 18-month-old Kytana Ancog will ever be found — even with a confession. Police say her father, Travis Rodrigues, told investigators he killed her and then arranged for another man, Scott Michael Carter, to dispose of the body.

Rodrigues has been charged with murder and Carter was charged with hindering prosecution. Legal experts say Rodrigues’ statement may not be enough to convict Carter, so the public may never find out what happened to Kytana’s body.

“So unless Mr. Carter admits to taking the body, it’s gonna be very difficult without some type of corroborating physical evidence to back up the father’s story,” said Victor Bakke, a defense attorney who is not involved in the case.

Bakke added, both men can still be convicted without the body, but finding it would be better for the prosecutors and Kytana’s family.

“I’m just hoping that if anyone knows where Kytana is that they would come forward so that we can bring her home and lay our sweet baby girl to rest,” said Lisa Mora, Kytana’s grandmother.

Police dig up a section of beach after tip about missing toddler’s remains

Police launched a large operation along Farrington Highway on Tuesday after a tip that missing toddler’s Kytana Ancog’s remains were possibly buried in Mokuleia.

Officers used shovels to dig after K-9 units walked the area and hit on a part of the beach.

Tips come in almost daily in the case but this one was deemed credible, according to sources.

Honolulu police did not find anything in the sand on Mokuleia beach and left after about three hours.

If it was deemed credible and they had a dog alert then I hope they maybe give it another attempt or two...

At today’s hearing, Kawamura pointed out Carter’s criminal record, which includes a 2007 federal drug conviction of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

She denied Carter’s low bail request but granted a reduction to $250,000.

Carter’s trial is scheduled for April.

An arraignment for Rodrigues, who was indicted with second-degree murder in the toddler’s death, was originally scheduled to be held Thursday, but the judge postponed it tentatively to March 4 because Rodrigues is under a mandatory intake-related quarantine at Halawa Correctional Facility following his transfer from OCCC on Wednesday.

Travis Rodrigues pleads not guilty after being charged with second degree murder

A father from Aiea who confessed to killing his own 18-month-old daughter pleaded not guilty this week after being charged with second degree murder.

40-year-old Travis Rodrigues remains behind bars on $2 million bail.

Police have yet to find the body of his daughter Kytana Ancog although the case remains open.

Police chief says murdered toddler’s case didn’t meet criteria for Maile Amber Alert

Honolulu Police Chief Susan Ballard spoke publicly for the first time this week about the case of a missing toddler whose father is behind bars for her murder.

Chief Susan Ballard did not do interviews during the search for 18-month old Kytana Ancog.

She told Hawaii News Now in an interview this week that a Maile Amber Alert was not triggered because the case didn’t meet the criteria, even though Ancog was in the care of a convicted felon.

Ancog’s mother dropped the child off with Rodrigues on Jan. 31, but she was reported missing when Rodrigues didn’t bring her back.

“There was no indication of any abduction. So with a Maile Alert, there’s certain criteria that has to be present before we use it and there was no indication of any type of abduction,” said Ballard.

But critics of that argument said when Rodrigues did not return the child, the case could have been elevated to a kidnapping.

“She dropped the baby off with him and never got her back,” said Lisa Mora, the girl’s grandmother.

Since their arrests, tips have come in that sent HPD officers searching spots around the island. But so far, the child’s remains have not been found.

An alert may not have prevented Ancog’s death, but Rosenberg said it could have have brought in helpful tips about the whereabouts of the two suspects during a critical time ― before their arrests.

I can't see where the Maile Amber Alert would have made a difference in this case. By the time Kytana was known to be held against her mom's will, I don't think Kytana was on the planet anymore. :(
