San Antonio nonprofit joins in search for missing 3-year-old Lina Khil as investigation enters third week

A San Antonio nonprofit organization and several community members gathered Sunday to help locate missing 3-year-old Lina Sardar Khil, as the search enters its third week.

The Eagles Flight Advocacy & Outreach organization and an estimated 150 people in the Afghan community joined forces at 9 a.m. Sunday to search for Lina in the greenbelt area behind St. George Maronite Catholic Church on Babcock Road.

Despite their efforts, Lina’s whereabouts are still unknown.

'Just hoping': the search for Lina Khil closes in on two weeks with few answers
The desperate search continues for Lina Khil. The toddler's been missing for nearly two weeks.

On Sunday, SAPD continued the Amber Alert for her for the 13th time.

Crews went back out in the field Sunday morning to see if they could find anything to help the search.

With every step, glance and second that goes by Pamela Allen hopes they are closer to finding Lina.

“We're just praying, praying for a miracle. It's been two weeks already, and we're just praying. It's just it's just a hard thing to see this family go through this,” Allen said.

She helped organize Sunday's search for Lina with the Afghan community, going through this tall grass for a specific reason.

“SAPD said that areas, the greenbelts were points that can be searched. And so that's what we decided to do,” Allen said.

The nearly 200 volunteers braved the cold with one goal in mind.

“Just hoping that it turns up some leads,” Allen said.

That’s something which has been difficult to come by since Lina vanished from a playground.

“Bottom line is we still can't find a baby girl, and we need to find her,” Allen said.

This article then actually refers to her as a toddler. I think of a toddler as exactly what it sounds like. Many don't follow crime as we do and if someone just reads that, they would never equate a 5 year old or older (if she is) with it being this missing child if they saw an older child I do wish they would get this straightened out or at least present uniform reporting on her age and age she looked to be, etc.

San Antonio Police continue to ask for help in locating missing 3-year-old girl

For the fourteenth time, an Amber Alert was continued for a missing three-year-old girl from San Antonio.

The San Antonio Police Department says the search is still active, and the police chief has previously said there is nothing they haven’t done to locate her.

Volunteers are organizing a search on Tuesday at 9:00 am at a church located at 4398 Bluemel Road to search nearby apartment complexes.

I'm trying to consider the vast developmental differences between a 3 and a 5 year old. And I'm coming up blank as far as thoughts. Also, does she speak English?

Language is the biggest developmental difference in that age group, I'd say. Most 3-year-olds can communicate, but not in long sentences. Many 5-year-olds are speaking clearly, and some learning to read and write. Walking, particularly on stairs, would be another big difference.

As far as noticing the difference from seeing a child in passing? Size and facial features (baby fat) would be the only real way. Average height for a 3-year-old girl is about 3'. (Lina is listed at 4' and 50 lbs....average height and weight for a 7 year old girl.)

To my knowledge, it hasn't been explicitly stated if she speaks English or not. But her parents speak no to very little English. "The SAPD had to bring in an interpreter to help with the language barrier." Presumably she hadn't started school yet if they're saying she's 3. So my guess is she, like her parents, has no to very little English.

Search for missing 3-year old Lina Khil enters third week
It’s been 14 days since 3-year-old Lina Khil disappeared while playing outside an apartment complex on the northwest side.

It’s a high-interest case with very few leads.

“I did speak with the mother via translator and she’s worried about her daughter,” said Nina Glass, co-director of Search and Rescue SATX. “Worried sick.”

Glass says Lina's mother doesn't leave the family apartment, which is just a few feet from the playground where Lina vanished.

Lina's father has gone out and has done what he can to help volunteers find his daughter.

For the past few weeks, hundreds of volunteers and investigators have been out searching for Lina.

“I think tomorrow we’re going to reset and step back and start back at the apartment complex and go out from there,” Glass said.

On Tuesday, it will be the third time Glass and her group have gone out looking.

“Everybody has just been determined to find her and so are we,” Glass said. “I mean we won’t stop until we get a resolution.”

Two years is a lot at that age I think. I think a 5 year old would know more about rules such as not wandering off, not talking to strangers and things like that. I think they likely would better grasp the reasons to not go into water, etc. She could know where she lives or be able to recite her address or phone number. She may know her last name, parents' names, etc. All of these things and more I think it unlikely a 3 year old could do but hopefully a 5 year old might be able to do. I'm not saying it is a definite just that it is more possible a 5 year old has learned these things EVEN though we know a child can and may take off at any age or even talk to a stranger with a dog, etc.

I wonder too if she knows English. If she did not hear it in the home, it's hard to say unless learning it at school or elsewhere.

We don't have a suspect description or vehicle description in this case after this amount of time, not even a vague one. One would think if they had camera footage of any kind, they would possibly have something on that order...

I can tell you that I live amongst quite a few immigrants and I find it surprising that eve the quite young ones often know English or more than their parents and speak for them at times. We know children learn another language when young or become bilingual easier than if older. I see it so much I wonder if there isn't an emphasis on it or classes they go to whether school aged or not? Of course this doesn't mean she knows it but I think the chances are good she does or knows some, if she is indeed older too...

FBI dive team involved as search for 3-year-old Lina Sardar Khil enters 3rd week

An FBI dive team is assisting in the search for missing 3-year-old Lina Sardar Khil, authorities said.

The investigation has led the FBI's underwater search and evidence response team to an area not previously searched, according to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.

"We don't want to leave anything to chance," McManus told reporters during a press briefing Tuesday evening at the scene of the search. "Everything that we get that has any kind of potential at all, we follow it up. And that's what we're doing here today."

The area is located near the family's apartment complex, according to ABC San Antonio affiliate KSAT.

The chief said he couldn't provide any additional information on what led detectives to the area, but noted the search will continue Tuesday until it gets dark, and pick up again Wednesday.

I saw it earlier and he said it is based on a lead or tip but that they are following up on all leads and tips. He gave no indication this is a credible one nor any more credible or important than any of them. He gave no indication there is any reason to think she is here or anything will pan out--but then, they aren't going to tell us so who knows... That's what I took out of it. Nothing much offered for info.

FBI dive team ends search for 3-year-old Lina Sardar Khil 'without conclusive findings'

An FBI dive team has ended its search for missing 3-year-old Lina Sardar Khil without finding any trace of the girl, authorities said Wednesday.

A spokesperson with the San Antonio Police Department told ABC News in a statement Wednesday afternoon that the "dive effort concluded without any conclusive findings" and police have now "broadened the grid" in the search for Lina.

The FBI said it is accepting any tips, video footage or insight on Lina's whereabouts.

Agent Justin Garris of the FBI's Justin San Antonio field office told reporters on Dec. 28 the investigation into Lina's disappearance is "aggressive," adding that the FBI has utilized its child abduction rapid deployment team, behavioral analysis unit, intelligence response teams and forensic examiners.

Amber Alert discontinued for 3-year-old Lina Khil but police search continues

An AMBER alert for a missing San Antonio girl was suspended Friday. No reason was provided as to why the Department of Public Safety discontinued the alert for 3-year-old Lina Khil, who went missing from her apartment complex on December 20.

In a January 7 press release, the San Antonio Police Department stressed that Khil, who was last seen at the Villas del Cabo apartment complex on Fredericksburg Road, is still missing and that search efforts remain a priority for the department.

“Our investigation and search for Lina has not stopped,” the press release reads. “We will continue to diligently continue combing through leads in hopes of locating Lina and reuniting her with her family.”
