Police believe missing Winona woman’s disappearance ‘involuntary and suspicious’

Madeline Kingsbury, 26, has been missing since the morning of March 31 when she was last seen at her home in Winona. She was supposed to show up for work that morning but didn’t. Numerous calls and messages from friends and family went unanswered.

A $50,000 reward is now being offered for any information on Kingsbury’s whereabouts.

During the course of the investigation, Winona police know that Kingsbury returned to her residence in Winona after dropping her kids off at daycare around 8:15 a.m. on March 31 in a 2014 dark blue Chrysler Town and Country minivan.

The father of Kingsbury’s children said he left in her minivan around 10 a.m. and when he returned later in the day, she was not home.

Police believe a similar van was seen driving on County Road 12 and Highway 43 in Winona County and then southbound on Highway 43 through the eastern part of Fillmore County. Later, a van similar to Kingsbury’s drove back towards Winona on Highway 43. This occurred during the timeframe of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Police said the van has been parked in her residence since 1:30 p.m. on March 31 and they are not currently looking for the van.

Authorities located her phone, the jacket she wore earlier that morning and her wallet inside the home.

Nothing to date indicates that Kingsbury left on foot or in another vehicle.

Winona Police believe Kingsbury’s disappearance is suspicious and involuntary.

Law enforcement have searched near her residence and along Highway 43 in both Winona and Fillmore counties.

Winona Police have been assisted by other agencies and volunteers. Search efforts included people on foot, in vehicles, on water and air.

Desperate search for missing mom-of-two, 26, who vanished five days ago before she could collect her kids from daycare: Phone and wallet are found in her house

A 26-year-old mother of two from Minnesota has been missing for almost a week in what local police are describing as 'suspicious' circumstances after her phone and wallet were found in her house.

She and the father of her children - a 5-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy - had just dropped them off at a day care before returning home.

At around 10, the father of the kids left their house in a dark blue 2014 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, he told authorities. By the time he came back later that day, Kingsbury was no longer there.

Her job said she didn't show up and friends and family say she did not respond to a number of calls and messages. She also didn't pick up her children.

Winona Police have not offered a suspect but have told residents to check their own surveillance cameras for a dark blue minivan 'driving by or stopping' in the City of Winona, Wilson Township, and Hillsdale Township between 8 a.m. March 31 and 4 p.m. on April 1.

Kingsbury's family spoke at a press conference Wednesday, offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to her return, according to ABC News.

'Please help us find Madeline,' said her sister, Megan Kingsbury. 'Her children need their mother. We need our daughter, our sister, our aunt and our best friend back.'

Mass search set for Friday for Madeline Kingsbury

Authorities said that they have organized a mass search for Madeline Kingsbury for Friday.

They said they are looking for volunteers for four hour shifts. A release on the search said that they are looking for people "over the age of 18 to walk areas that are rough terrain and long distances."

There are two locations for volunteers to gather. The first is at the Winona County-Goodview Fire Department at 4135 5th St., in Winona. The second is in Fillmore County at the Rushford-Peterson School, 1000 Pine Meadows Lane in Rushford.

Authorities said that the volunteers will be assigned a search area then bussed to that area.

Well based on where they are searching, it is pretty clear what they suspect. And I'd agree based on the limited info.

Why take your kids to day care if you aren't leaving the home/working (only he left)... I mean maybe some do it for a day off but not most imo. Besides her job said she didn't show up for work. So she was likely dropping them at day care so she could go to work but he took HER van it says? I'm going to guess they aren't married possibly or maybe don't even live together if the "her" van is accurate... Seems she was planning to work but all of a sudden he has her van and takes a jaunt with it... They drove to the day care together to drop the kids off...? Wondering if there is proof of that and why that would be... Be interested to know what he normally drove and where is that?

My daughter lived in Winona some years back. I've also been through the area. Near the Mississippi, nice surrounding area. Population about 26,000, not huge. Near LaCrosse, WI which is seeing quite a bit of crime. Population there 52,000.

Hundreds of volunteers show up to search for Madeline Kingsbury; still no suspect or person of interest

Hundreds of volunteers showed up Friday to help in the search for missing 26-year-old Madeline Kingsbury as law enforcement classified the case as “very active.”

Winona Police Chief Tom Williams said around 700 people showed up to the two search locations.

Additional details about the investigation are still limited but Williams said they are following up on hundreds of leads.

“The leads coming in are unbelievable,” he said.

Williams declined to say if there is a suspect in the case and again encouraged residents in southeastern Minnesota to check their property.

Williams said Friday’s search was expanded due to the number of people who showed up, and the search now includes Houston County in addition to Winona and Fillmore Counties.

They said searches have occurred by foot, by vehicle and by water and air.

The family said earlier this week a $50,000 reward is being offered.

Number of volunteers grew even larger! Outstanding.

Madeline Kingsbury search: 1,800+ volunteers join search on Friday

After more than 1,800 volunteers turned out on Friday to search for a missing Winona mother, law enforcement leaders have planned a second search for Saturday.

Deputies say volunteer search crews were able to search a lot of space in Fillmore County, as the search continues for Maddi Kingsbury. Efforts are set to continue on Saturday and the sheriff's office is now looking for more volunteers.

"We remain hopeful we will bring Madeline home soon," said the BCA.

So, they drop off their children at daycare and return home. He then leaves in the van and returns home to find her missing. Did they have another vehicle? Is it just me or is anyone else seeing this as extremely suspicious?

Madeline was last seen with her domestic partner on the morning of March 31 when they dropped their two children off at daycare. He indicated that he left the residence around 10 AM and Madeleine was missing when he returned several hours later.

Actually, it almost sounds like a playlist. Above I saw they have no persons of interest, but I don’t believe it.

I do. I believe I posted about it above with several points on these very things. Totally agree that there is one big arrow pointing in his direction.... Based on what is known so far anyhow.

Winona Police Chief announces end of organized search parties for missing Winona woman

Winona Police Chief Tom Williams announced the “end of the large organized search” for missing 26-year-old Madeline Kingsbury.

In a statement, Williams said around 1,900 people looked for Kingsbury Friday, April 7, with another 700 searching Saturday, April 8.

Williams said the large number of volunteers covered more ground in a shorter amount of time than originally expected.

“We want to thank the community for this overwhelming show of support for Maddi and her family, which brings us that much closer to finding her and bringing her home,” Williams said in a statement.

The end of the organized search parties doesn’t mean the end of the search for Kingsbury and the investigation into her disappearance.

“As we develop new leads and new search areas, teams of law enforcement officers will do targeted searches,” Williams said. “Agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension remain on the ground in Winona lending their support and resources to the investigation. Meanwhile, Fillmore and Winona Counties, along with many of our other partners in public safety, are standing by ready to assist at any moment.”

New information in the investigation of missing Minnesota woman Madeline Kingsbury was expected to be released by police Tuesday, as her sister expressed hope she will be found safely.

Kingsbury’s sister said Monday that she was still determined to find the mom of two, who disappeared after dropping off her children, ages 5 and 2, at daycare with their father in Winona, Minn. on March 31.

“We love her — and Maddi, we’re going to find you,” her sister Megan said on ABC’s Good Morning America, a day before Winona cops were set to issue an update in the case, according to KAAL-TV.

Police said the clinical research coordinator at the Mayo Clinic did not attend work the day of her disappearance, instead going home and sent a final “goofy” text to her sister Megan.

While police have called off the ground search in Winona, a southern Minnesota city located along the Wisconsin border, the investigation into Kingsbury’s disappearance is ongoing. Kingsbury’s mother, Krista Naber, said the family is hoping someone will come forward with information.

She told NewsNation’s Ashleigh Banfield that police have expanded their search into Houston County in Minnesota’s far southeast corner.

WINONA, MINN. — The father of Madeline Kingsbury's children is speaking out for the first time since she disappeared last month, calling for her safe return and adding he had nothing to do with the 26-year-old Winona woman's disappearance.

"I want the mother of my 5-year-old and 2-year-old to be found and brought home safely," Adam Fravel said in a statement released Wednesday by his attorney, Zachary Bauer. "I want that more than anything."

<snip>
Fravel said Wednesday he has cooperated with local and state police "at every turn" and was advised by law enforcement not to participate in news conferences or organized searches for Kingsbury "due to safety concerns."

"However, my non-attendance and silence has been inferred by many as a sign of apathy, or worse," Fravel said. "That could not be further from the truth. I want Maddi home and for her to be able to be with our two children."

Bonney Bowman, a spokesperson with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, said she was "not aware of any law enforcement advising Mr. Fravel not to attend news conferences or search for Madeline."

Oof. He has hired an attorney.
There was a "brewing custody battle". He has no custodial rights to the children.
AFTER her disappearance on April 4, CPS removed the kids. They cited neglect, abandonment, and a dangerous home environment that may include possible "exposure to criminal activity" in the home.

Article also includes info from above video.
The full statement reads:

"Over the course of the last 12 days, my family and I have been subject to a myriad of accusations regarding the disappearance of the mother of my children, Maddi Kingsbury. During these last 12 days, I have cooperated with law enforcement at every turn, including sitting down for multiple interviews with Winona County law enforcement. I did not have anything to do with Maddi’s disappearance. I want the mother of my 5-year-old and 2-year-old to be found and brought home safely. I want that more than anything. Law enforcement advised me on April 2nd that they would not recommend that I attend the press conferences or that I assist in the searches due to safety concerns. However, my non-attendance and silence has been inferred by many as a sign of apathy, or worse. That could not be further from the truth. I want Maddi home and for her to be able to be with our two children. God Bless the Kingsbury family and please bring her home safely."

KARE 11 News reached out to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, which is assisting Winona Police in the investigation, to ask about Fravel's statement.

"I’m not aware of any law enforcement advising Mr. Fravel not to attend news conferences or search for Madeline," BCA spokesperson Bonney Bowman responded.
