Police believe missing Winona woman’s disappearance ‘involuntary and suspicious’

Madeline Kingsbury, 26, has been missing since the morning of March 31 when she was last seen at her home in Winona. She was supposed to show up for work that morning but didn’t. Numerous calls and messages from friends and family went unanswered.

A $50,000 reward is now being offered for any information on Kingsbury’s whereabouts.

During the course of the investigation, Winona police know that Kingsbury returned to her residence in Winona after dropping her kids off at daycare around 8:15 a.m. on March 31 in a 2014 dark blue Chrysler Town and Country minivan.

The father of Kingsbury’s children said he left in her minivan around 10 a.m. and when he returned later in the day, she was not home.

Police believe a similar van was seen driving on County Road 12 and Highway 43 in Winona County and then southbound on Highway 43 through the eastern part of Fillmore County. Later, a van similar to Kingsbury’s drove back towards Winona on Highway 43. This occurred during the timeframe of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Police said the van has been parked in her residence since 1:30 p.m. on March 31 and they are not currently looking for the van.

Authorities located her phone, the jacket she wore earlier that morning and her wallet inside the home.

Nothing to date indicates that Kingsbury left on foot or in another vehicle.

Winona Police believe Kingsbury’s disappearance is suspicious and involuntary.

Law enforcement have searched near her residence and along Highway 43 in both Winona and Fillmore counties.

Winona Police have been assisted by other agencies and volunteers. Search efforts included people on foot, in vehicles, on water and air.

Same details as the rest.

Fravel has denied any involvement in Kingsbury disappearance and said he is cooperating with law enforcement. He has challenged the protective custody petition and a court date regarding the matter is scheduled for May 15, 2023.

Police have said they do not have a suspect in the case and have not accused Fravel of any wrongdoing.

✂️

An order issued by District Judge Mary Leahy stated that there were reasonable grounds to believe the child were in danger due to their surroundings and current conditions.

Fravel, through his attorney, Thomas Braun of Restovich, Braun & Associates, has denied the claims made in court documents submitted by the county.

I think "Fravel" is the only suspect that makes sense. He had more than one motive to harm her. The children, And she was moving out. Suspicious her leaving all her possessions being left behind. Then her vehicle found abandoned. It is the same old story as other cases where the significant other is the person responsible. Kids are told sooner or later, "Your mother left". Yeah, Leaving all possessions behind. I'll bet in this case, Like all the others. There will be no activity on debit, Credit cards or social security number.

The Winona Police Department and Winona County Emergency Management are making new requests for property owners in Winona and Fillmore counties to report old wells from before 1925, old homesteads, windmills, or sinkholes, as this information is not available in records and could lead to new searches. Those with information are encouraged to contact search@co.winona.mn.us.

Law enforcement is also partnering with Maddi’s family to request that all property owners in Winona, Fillmore, and Houston counties to place a blue checkmark in an easily visible place if they consent to have their property searched.

"Volunteers will only be looking for Maddi, signs of disturbance or something out of the ordinary. They will not be entering any homes or other structures on the property… volunteers will also confirm with the property owner that it’s ok to search," Winona police said in a statement.

After the property has been searched, volunteers or the homeowner will place a blue ribbon around the mailbox indicating to others the property has already been checked.

WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) – The search for missing Winona woman continues after more than 40 days, and many questions are still unanswered after she was last seen dropping her kids off at daycare Friday, March 31.

“She’s gone, and no one knows what happened,” close friend Holly Stamschor said.

Stamschor has been one of Madeline’s closest friends since college.

“I don’t know, we just fell in love, we immediately just clicked and ever since then we have been extremely close,” Stamschor explained.

<snip>
Now, she has channeled her confusion into motivation to find her friend by starting the Finding Madeline Kingsbury Facebook page.

“We’ve had a lot of great people that we have met through the page that we’ve met on searches or that have gone out by themselves that will message us privately and say they look, I found this, I’m not sure whether this is something I need to contact crime stoppers,” Stamschor said.

While the turnout has been overwhelming, the searches are emotional.

“We don’t know what we’ll find, we don’t know if we’ll find a clue, we don’t know if we’ll find her so every search you kind of have to prepare yourself for something,” Stamschor explained.

The group is now trying to organize a shore search along the Mississippi River once the flooding subsides and it is deemed safe.

WINONA, Minn. (FOX 9) - Search efforts to find missing Winona mother Madeline Kingsbury have continued this week, with boat crews combing the Mississippi River Thursday.

Crews worked throughout the day looking for Kingsbury. Wednesday, kayak teams also searched the Root River. Additional shoreline searches are scheduled for this weekend. Searches Thursday wrapped up by late afternoon.

A Minnesota BCA spokesperson says there are continuing "daily targeted" law enforcement searches at multiple locations for Kingsbury.

IMO. Fravel put her body where they aren't going to find it. He knew where they would search. There have been some stupid killers where they did the same thing. It's their control. The victim is THEIRS. I have no doubt he planned this. So plenty of time to think of a place.

WINONA, Minn. (KARE 11) — The ex-boyfriend of missing Winona woman Maddi Kingsbury was in court Monday, seeking custody of the two children they share while the investigation into her disappearance continues.

Adam Fravel was in Winona County Court seeking to get his young daughter and son back after the county took custody of them, alleging they were children in need of protective services. There was a hearing Monday before the actual trial in the matter, which is currently scheduled for June 6.

Fravel is listed as the biological father of 5-year-old Elliana and 2-year-old Noah, but has no official custodial rights. The kids are currently placed with Maddi’s parents while the matter is being decided.

KARE 11′s Lou Raguse was the only reporter in the courtroom for the hearing and says both Fravel’s legal team and attorneys for the county talked openly about “the elephant in the room” — the fact Fravel is being investigated for his possible involvement in Maddi’s disappearance.

<snip>

In the hearing, the guardian ad litem reported to the judge that Maddi’s children are very well provided for and are receiving mental health support. She also noted that it doesn’t appear they are in an environment where their father is poorly spoken about, something that concerned Fravel’s attorney.

“They have significant disdain for my client,” Braun said, noting that they think Fravel caused Maddi’s disappearance.

Maddi’s father David Kingsbury didn’t comment on anything regarding Fravel after the hearing, noting that he and his family have two objectives: to find Maddi and to make sure her children are well cared for and protected.

A special prosecutor, who's "arguably one of the best in the business," a law enforcement source told Madeline Kingsbury's family, is now part of Kingsbury's "suspicious" disappearance, Fox News Digital has learned.

The 26-year-old mom hasn't been seen or heard from since she dropped off her kids at daycare with the children's father around 8 a.m. on March 31, and she sent her sister a "goofy" text around 8:15 a.m. the same day.

Phil Prokopowicz, who served as a chief deputy attorney in Dakota County, Minnesota, before his retirement in 2019, is consulting the Winona County Attorney's Office, said Bonne Bowman, a spokesperson of Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

"The Winona County Attorney’s Office has brought on Mr. Prokopowicz in a consulting capacity, as they often do for cases that are potentially complex," Bowman told Fox News Digital in an email.

Search for missing Minnesota mom Madeline Kingsbury, 26, who vanished eight weeks ago intensifies as special prosecutor is brought out of retirement to work on case

A special prosecutor has been pulled out of retirement to investigate the disappearance of Minnesota mom Madeline Kingsbury, 26, who went missing nearly two months ago.

Madeline's sister confirmed to local outlets that Phil Prokopowicz, the former chief deputy attorney in Dakota County, has been brought in to help.

Prokopowicz, who has been called 'arguably one of the best in the business,' is assisting Winona County law enforcement, the sister said.

'We don't have a ton of details right now as far as what specifically he is looking into as the immediate concern is the custody trial,' Megan Kingsbury told KTTC.

Prokopowicz retired in 2019 from the Dakota County law enforcement agency.

'The Winona County Attorney's Office has brought on Mr. Prokopowicz in a consulting capacity, as they often do for cases that are potentially complex,' Minnesota Department of Public Safety spokesman Bonne Bowman said told Fox News.

WINONA, Minn. (FOX 9) - It's been nearly 60 days and there are still no answers in the disappearance of Madeline Kingsbury, but those close to the missing mother of two are not giving up hope.

"Although it's emotionally overwhelming, it's good to be back and searching somewhere that's going to be effective," said Michaela Rieple, Kingsbury's friend.

With guidance from authorities, volunteers with Minnesota United searched Latch Island in Winona on Saturday, which had been flooded. The group helps families across the state whose loved ones have gone missing.

With renewed searches also comes a push to find Maddi before her 27th birthday on June 1st. Her family is asking residents to light their homes blue, as well as tie blue ribbons around the city of Winona as a sign of solidarity and support for Maddi and her kids.

They are also reminding the public to stay aware of their surroundings and look for anything that might help bring Maddi back home.
