Search continues for missing and endangered 5-year-old in Fruitland, Idaho

Michael Vaughn was last seen near SW 9th Street and S. Arizona Ave. in Fruitland on Tuesday evening. Crews and neighbors were out all day looking for the boy.

The search for a missing 5-year-old-year-old boy intensified Wednesday as it entered its second day.

Michael Vaughn was last seen near SW 9th Street and S. Arizona Avenue in Fruitland around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Fruitland Police Department said Michael is considered missing and endangered.

Michael is about three feet, seven-inches tall and weighs 50 pounds. He has blonde hair and blue eyes. He answers to the nickname "Monkey."

Michael was wearing a light blue shirt with a Minecraft picture on it, dark blue boxer briefs and sandals.

Idaho Mountain Rescue brought in highly-trained and rescue personnel to assist in the search.

Crews from multiple agencies searched the area near Michael's home by ground and air by drone and helicopter. They also went door to door, talking with neighbors.

Right next to the boy's home is a field where crews spent much of the day searching for him.

Neighbors say they learned about his disappearance about an hour after he was reported missing. They say Michael is a happy kid who lives with his parents and grandfather.

Cynthia Walker was walking her dog as the search was happening.

"At five years old, I don't know that he would wander too far without one us seeing him by now," she said. "There are volunteers, many, many volunteers out searching, scanning the fields and we just want to have Michael back, we just want him home safe."

This is awesome. Trucks are on the road so much and semis can't be missed. I can't recall which case it was but I think it was the Closs case sin WI where someone did their semi up with her on it and such and then she escaped and was located safe so not sure if it ever got on the road. Can't swear it was that case but I think it was. I felt it was such a nice thing to do.

So is the Homeward Bound project in that state run by the State Patrol as I don't think I've heard of that. I thought it was owner/operators who did such. I wonder how that works, do such volunteer to the state or something?

Places like Walmart should do it, their trucks are all over. However, I'm sure they want their logo and advertising on their trucks. Come to think of it Walmart used to do missing children pictures in their stores and I think in their ads and I don't think they do either any longer. I wonder why.
Yes, the Homeward Bound program is specific to Washington.

Homeward Bound is a Washington State Patrol push to raise public awareness about missing children and bring light to their cases. We share a common goal of bringing renewed hope to their families.

Walmart also still has a partnership with NCMEC. They should still have a board with posters on it. You can see who should be on boards in your area here: NCMEC Posters for Walmart

I didn't think WM did any longer. It used to be it seemed so front and center if I recall. Maybe it is there somewhere. I'll have to look at my areas in a minute here.

I wish all states would follow suit with that idea! That's great. Do they broker with trucks or companies? I'll have to take a look at that too.

Oh it is a certain trucking company. That is REALLY smart on their part too as well as being so helpful! I personally would use and remember companies who do such things before using others and I'm sure many of their customers will as well!! I had a job in which I scheduled trucks to pick up product and if I knew that and had use of them, I'd use them!

NEW PLYMOUTH — With the evening of Oct. 7 came the community celebration of National Faith & Blue Weekend at Kiwanis Park in New Plymouth. The annual gatherings, which take place in various cities across the country, are aimed at strengthening the work of law enforcement officers by enabling local partnerships with the help of faith-based organizations.
The event was coordinated by the Payette County Sheriff’s Office, with the help of the Westside Assembly of God, New Plymouth First Baptist Church and local wards of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Approximately 200 people attended the gathering, according to Sheriff Andy Creech

Creech opened the evening with brief remarks about the ongoing search for Michael “Monkey” Vaughan, a child who has been missing from Fruitland since July 2021.

Fruitland Police searching home related to Michael Vaughan disappearance

Police have been outside a home in Fruitland on Saturday with a tractor, dumpster and other individuals based on a lead they got in relation to the disappearance of Michael Vaughan, a 5-year-old that went missing in July of 2021.

Crime scene tape has blocked off most of the road in a neighborhood across the field near Vaughan's home in Fruitland.

The fence from the home was taken apart to allow a tractor to enter the backyard, and has now begun digging.

"During the course of the investigation we received information the remains of Michael Vaughan might be found (behind the house)... As a result we obtained a search warrant. We have not found anything yet but we will continue to excavate in hopes of finding his remains." Fruitland Police Chief J.D Huff told KTVB at the scene.

Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue is also on scene with Idaho State Police and Fruitland PD. Huff said they arrived on scene late Friday.
