PAUL & MAGGIE MURDAUGH: South Carolina vs. Alex Murdaugh for Double Homicide of wife & son *GUILTY*

1623728103817.png
This case is being kept pretty quiet, no major details released to speak of (other than it does say there were two different guns used), but no info regarding who found them, who called 911, very little else.

Of interest, the grandfather died just a few days after these murders and it sounds as if he was ill from various articles so probably not unexpected. I think of the typical motives, did grandpa have a big estate? How big in the overall family of grandpa's on down? They sound like a pretty well known family and a powerful one in their state, more on that in the article.

The Unraveling of the Murdaugh Dynasty: Unsolved Murders, Insurance Fraud and Missing Millions

The guy I put up earlier, Eric Alan, really has a talent in doing videos on this case but he is not through it all yet... He is doing from the beginning sort of, about an episode a week or something like that.

Yes, it must be the way of the rich and famous with names because from what I have heard Alex is pronounced "Alec" in this case and Murdaugh is pronounced "Murdock", I find it a bit ridiculous, why not spell your kid's name the way it should be.... Of course I should be nice as I suppose it may be heritage. Is that name Scottish or something maybe? Irish? Murdaugh?

"Buster was kicked out of USC law school for plagiarism."

Alex Murdaugh sued by his brother and a former partner over unpaid loans

In the elder Murdaugh's suit, it is alleged that prior to Sept. 2, 2021, Alex indicated to his brother that needed a loan to cover an overdrawn bank account and that he had already written other checks, including checks to workers, which would make the account more overdrawn. The "Defendant did not disclose that he was in poor financial condition," the suit says.

The Murdaugh suit also states that Randy loaned $75,000 to his younger brother, under the condition that the loan be repaid within 30 days, but the defendant has not repaid the loan. The suit also alleges that Randy later paid the initial fee of $15,000 to enter Alex into a drug treatment facility in Orange County, Florida.

The total debt of $90,000 allegedly owed to Randy was reduced to $46,500 after Alex's son, Richard Alexander "Buster" Murdaugh Jr., sold Randy a Kubota tractor and other heavy equipment in exchange for partial debt cancellation.

Here is another on this. Crime Talk/Scott Reisch, a few watch him here I know and he is an attorney and runs a trustworthy channel imo.

He covers some things like above the brother suing and others, etc. but then he also was just in South Carolina and talked to some friends of his in the area and got a bit more of "local info" so kind of interesting. Murdaugh starts at about 5:35 in but he covers other cases in this too.

One thing he states is the locals say they are expecting more charges. Honestly so do I. i don't think they need to look far for the perp or who was behind the double murder but that is jmo and has been throughout.

Grand jury indicts Alex Murdaugh, Curtis Smith for failed attempted suicide scheme

The indictment kicks the case up to the Office of the South Carolina Attorney General and emphasizes the severity of the charges.

Typically, grand jury indictments indicate that the state believes they have solid evidence against the defendants.

Wow. Figured it was coming but wasn't sure it would be this soon.

Secret life of Maggie Murdaugh, notorious murders’ forgotten victim

The late Margaret Kennedy Branstetter — the granddaughter of a simple barber from rural Kentucky who grew up to marry one of South Carolina’s richest men and fly around in chartered jets — was guilty of only one thing, according to family and friends.

Maggie Murdaugh, as she was known as an adult, spoiled her two sons.

By most accounts, her older child, Buster, 26, was much more easygoing and well-adjusted than Paul, who was 22 when he was shot to death along with his 52-year-old mother at the family hunting lodge in rural Colleton County last June. The now notorious murders, covered by news outlets all over the world, remain unsolved.

Paul was facing criminal charges in the February 2019 boat crash death of his one-time girlfriend, Mallory Beach, 19. Friends testified that Paul became a different, destructive person when he drank and called his alter ego “Timmy".

But Paul was a handful even as a little boy, a family member told The Post.
“I saw him snap at least once,” the family member said. “....... (scathing story here)

they never flew commercial that I can remember. They always chartered jets.”

The family member also said that while he liked Alex and Maggie, there was “no question” that they “ran the town.”
“They own the police, they could always do whatever they wanted,” the family member told The Post. “There was no fear of consequences or repercussions to anything they did.

Imagine living with such confidence, nothing you do can get you even a speeding ticket or in trouble, etc. because you run the town as this says and/or that your young sons learn that too at an age that can be dangerous with their choices...

They never flew commercial but could charter jets--I just want to say apparently by the end they could ill afford it and even though she grew up to marry one of South Carolina's richest men, we know through the years his money came from ill gotten gains and settlements belonging to others and he was not rich of his own means and likely never was.

Yep, they are just something to admire. Apparently they were because others in power apparently went right along with the corruption.

She is a victim and very likely was a loving mom and nice woman, I have no idea but just making clear I am not talking about her so much as talking just about the overall family picture of that "wealth" and the ways of the family and what spoiling, no consequences and entitlement led to (deaths, theft, etc.) than I am about her.

As for Alec Murdaugh, the phrase that keeps running through my head is oh my, how the mighty have fallen. Not nice maybe but this is not a man who only committed one bad act in his life or just in one period of time or only hurt one person, per the allegations and things coming out, and he had every chance and opportuniity and wealth and squandered it all and devastated (imo/speculation) his own family and caused harm to many others as well....

The indictments also allege Murdaugh used his “prestige and reputation as a lawyer” to trick lawyers at other law firms into allowing checks that should have gone to Murdaugh’s law firm to be deposited into his personal Forge account.

Murdaugh also allegedly forged the signature of a S.C. Highway Patrol trooper on a $125,000 insurance check for injuries the trooper suffered in the line of duty and converted the money to his personal use, one indictment said.

Murdaugh’s lawyers Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin declined to comment on the new charges. The new indictments said Murdaugh faces:

Four counts of breach of trust with fraudulent intent

Seven counts of obtaining signature or property by false pretenses

Seven counts of money laundering

Eight counts of computer crimes

One count of forgery The indictments arise from alleged schemes to defraud victims and launder money in five S.C. counties: $3,483,431 in Beaufort County, $792,000 in Bamberg County, $383,056 in Allendale County, $125,000 in Orangeburg County, and $70,000 in Colleton County.

The nine counts from Beaufort County for $3.4 million are related to a previously reported alleged scheme Murdaugh carried out to embezzle money from the estate of the Murdaugh’s deceased housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield, who died in 2018 after a fatal fall at Murdaugh’s house. Murdaugh already faces criminal charges in that case, but the new charges lay out more details.

Shamed attorney Alex Murdaugh facing 27 new counts after an indictment in South Carolina for an alleged $4.8 million in financial crimes including stealing funds from victims and clients, and money laundering

  • Alex Murdaugh indicted on 27 additional charges by South Carolina prosecutors
  • Murdaugh allegedly stole $5m in settlement cash won by dead housekeeper
  • Money was also allegedly stolen from injured state trooper and other clients
  • Murdaugh allegedly stole a $125,000 settlement from trooper injured on duty
  • Alleged crimes took place months before police found his wife and son dead
  • Still no charges against any suspect for fatal shootings of his wife and son
  • Maggie Murdaugh and her son, Paul, were found dead in their home in June
  • Alex Murdaugh, 53, remains in jail without bond after two previous arrests
  • He paid hit man to shoot him in attempt to have son collect insurance money
  • Murdaugh was fired from his law firm day before he tried to have himself killed
  • He's also accused of misusing law firm funds in order to support his drug habit

Of course I can't know it, but I don't buy the third one from the end I do believe he was attempting something but I don't believe there was any intent he die.

Just speculation and my opinion.

My what ATTITUDE. I really have not had an opinion about the mother but one even picked up on it there. The son very much so...

She "fell" again? Or wanted him to let go of her...? Bleeding from the top of her head? I mean this could all be shock and all on the parts of the callers too but this is odd...

Personally, I think a dispatcher would normally have stayed on the line and kept someone on the line until the ambulance got there with something this serious... And continue asking questions and coach on handling the situation. No cell phone or cordless phone??? And there were two present so one should have been able to stay on the line... I suspect because of who the family was and it was realized that this was the reason the call ended before the ambulance got there...?

Alex Murdaugh will have a virtual bond hearing on Friday on the multiple indictments of financial misconduct in front of a different South Carolina judge from the one previously designated to handle his cases, according to his lawyer.

Murdaugh’s hearing will take place in Richland County virtually at 9 a.m., Murdaugh lawyer Jim Griffin said Monday evening. It will be in front of Judge Alison Renee Lee, of Richland County, even though Judge Clifton Newman was designated by the S.C. Supreme Court in September as the judge to handle all Alex Murdaugh’s criminal matters.

The judge switch comes amid a fight over whether Alex Murdaugh should receive bond, as Griffin and Murdaugh’s other attorney, Dick Harpootlian, filed a response Monday to the S.C. Attorney General’s office, which sought to keep Murdaugh jailed. Newman twice denied Murdaugh bond on charges that he embezzled millions meant for his deceased housekeeper’s estate. The judge called him “a danger both to himself and the community.”

Also at issue in the bond fight is Murdaugh’s mental state.
“Mr. Murdaugh had completed a phase of treatment in Florida and was proceeding immediately to Massachusetts to continue his treatment when he was arrested on the charges for which he was denied bond. It is richly ironic the State would remove him from a mental health treatment facility and then argue his need for mental health treatment is sufficient cause to deny his constitutional right to reasonable bond,” the filing said.

The man tried to have himself "offed" (although I don't believe that, I think the purpose was another than what he claims) and was allegedly hiding and selling assets, etc. and more. I see ample reason to deny bond including flight risk.

It may sound cynical but how common is it for the rich to use treatment as an excuse for what they have done and to avoid jail, etc.... Alcohol treatment, drugs, etc... We see it with celebrities, politicians, etc. I'm not saying he may not have a drug problem but I guess they can argue for a mental eval through the criminal case right...? As in Lori Daybell... A state hospital that is and no bond there...

It will be interesting to see what happens... I'm sure Murdaugh knows what judges he would want and which he doesn't want since his family was royalty in a sense of the very system he now finds himself in...

Attorneys Accuse Alex Murdaugh of Paying Eddie Smith $1.8 Million, Bank of Being ‘High-Tech Laundromat’

In a jaw-dropping amendment to their lawsuit against Alex Murdaugh, attorneys representing Gloria Satterfield‘s family have offered a darker and more detailed look into how Murdaugh and others allegedly conspired to steal $4.3 million from the family.

The amendment filed Monday in Hampton County Courthouse adds Bank of America as a defendant, calling it “the bank of a money launderer,” and accuses Alex Murdaugh of paying Curtis “Eddie” Smith, his alleged shooter, more than $1.8 million from fake accounts since 2015.

Columbia attorneys Eric Bland and Ronald Richter, who have recovered more than $7 million from Murdaugh’s alleged co-conspirators in the botch wrongful death settlement, say that Bank of America essentially helped Murdaugh launder “huge sums of stolen money” by “flexing” its own rules and “ignoring bank customs.”

Smith was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature among other serious charges in an alleged shooting on September 4. Nine days after the “shooting,” Murdaugh told police he had hired Smith to kill him as a part of a $10 million insurance fraud scheme. Apparently, that plan spun wildly off course and Smith maintains he was set up by Murdaugh.

In the lawsuit, Murdaugh is accused of writing 254 checks to Smith between 2015 and 2021. According to the lawsuit, Murdaugh used a Bank of America account under the name of a fake business to issue 17 cashiers checks that totaled $164,748.76.

According to the lawsuit, Murdaugh opened up two fake accounts with Bank of America. The first account was opened on September 22, 2015 under the name “Richard A. Murdaugh Sole Prop, DBA, Forge.” The second was a business account opened under the name “FORGE” on August 15, 2018.
