PAUL & MAGGIE MURDAUGH: South Carolina vs. Alex Murdaugh for Double Homicide of wife & son *GUILTY*

This case is being kept pretty quiet, no major details released to speak of (other than it does say there were two different guns used), but no info regarding who found them, who called 911, very little else.

Of interest, the grandfather died just a few days after these murders and it sounds as if he was ill from various articles so probably not unexpected. I think of the typical motives, did grandpa have a big estate? How big in the overall family of grandpa's on down? They sound like a pretty well known family and a powerful one in their state, more on that in the article.

I want to write this down before I forget. The fact that the mother and son were killed with two different weapons leads me to believe there were two different killers. One person might use two weapons, but it doesn’t seem very likely.

This case has shades of the Pike County massacre. Is there a rival family that has it in for the Murdaughs?

I don't have any clue. I'm still trying to understand the title of Solicitor, lol.
Isn't soliciting against the law?. Wait. That's different. Nevermind.
sorry forget it GIF by Kyle

In that statement, released through his attorney, Dick Harpootlian, Murdaugh said he plans to resign from his law firm and enter rehab:

The murders of my wife and son have caused an incredibly difficult time in my life. I have made a lot of decisions that I truly regret. I’m resigning from my law firm and entering rehab after a long battle that has been exacerbated by these murders. I am immensely sorry to everyone I’ve hurt including my family, friends and colleagues. I ask for prayers as I rehabilitate myself and my relationships.

Neither Murdaugh nor Harpootlian has responded to questions about the statement.

So reading between the lines, I am guessing it was self inflicted.

..Alex Murdaugh, a member of a powerful legal dynasty in South Carolina, was accused by his firm of misusing funds. A day later, Mr. Murdaugh reported that he had been shot on a rural road.

The law office did not say how much money was missing, but a member of the firm, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to disclose company information, said the amount was in the millions.

Yeah, he’s dirty for sure. There was somebody else who hid out in a recovery house for a while. Who was that?

One of Alex Murdaugh’s lawyers, Jim Griffin said the allegations of financial impropriety have prompted Murdaugh to confront his substance dependency and voluntarily check into an in-patient substance abuse rehab facility.

makes one wonder if the wife was questioning him about finances...

Yeah! Me too.
This is the most significant bit of news since the double murder broke.

The prominent South Carolina family law firm that is accusing Alex Murdaugh of misappropriating its money has for years been known for its wealth and hefty awards from juries and settlements in court cases.

In Hampton, where the firm’s main office is, its multi-story brick building is called “The House CSX Built” for the many lawsuits the firm’s lawyers won from the railroad company over the years in injury and death cases that happened at railroad crossings around the state.

One senior member, John E. Parker, did so well that he donated $1 million in recent years to upgrade the Hampton County courthouse and also gave land for a county nature trail.

Alex Murdaugh resigned on Friday from Peters Murdaugh Parker Eltzroth and Detrick, which was founded by his family, after the firm discovered he had “misappropriated funds.” Murdaugh said in a statement Sunday he has entered drug treatment and issued an apology to his family, friends and colleagues.

How much money is Murdaugh accused of taking? Over how long a time? Were client funds taken?

The firm is not saying.

However legal sources familiar with the case have told The Island Packet and The State newspapers that the amount is well over a million dollars.

A statement released Monday night said the matter of the “misappropriated” funds has been referred to law enforcement and the S.C. Bar.

“A forensic accounting firm will be retained to conduct a thorough investigation,” said the statement, which invited clients with questions to contact the law firm.

When reached by phone Tuesday, Danny Henderson, an attorney with PMPED, said the firm would not be releasing any further statements.

On Monday night, the Murdaugh law firm released this statement: “On Friday, September 3, 2021, Alex Murdaugh resigned from the Law Firm. He is no longer associated with PMPED in any manner.

“His resignation came after the discovery by PMPED that Alex misappropriated funds in violation of PMPED standards and policies. A forensic accounting firm will be retained to conduct thorough investigation. Law enforcement and the SC Bar have been notified by PMPED.

“This is disappointing news for all of us. Rest assured that our firm will deal with this in a straightforward manner. There’s no place in our firm for such behavior. Due to the ongoing investigations into these matters and client confidentiality, PMPED cannot comment further at this time.

“We encourage any client with questions to contact our offices regarding their file.”

Am I reading that right? It took law enforcement almost 2 hours to get there when his wife and son were killed?
