PAUL & MAGGIE MURDAUGH: South Carolina vs. Alex Murdaugh for Double Homicide of wife & son *GUILTY*

This case is being kept pretty quiet, no major details released to speak of (other than it does say there were two different guns used), but no info regarding who found them, who called 911, very little else.

Of interest, the grandfather died just a few days after these murders and it sounds as if he was ill from various articles so probably not unexpected. I think of the typical motives, did grandpa have a big estate? How big in the overall family of grandpa's on down? They sound like a pretty well known family and a powerful one in their state, more on that in the article.

Here you go. This link clarifies it completely!!!!
Clear as mud.....

Convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh admitted to lying about the circumstances of housekeeper Gloria Satterfield’s trip-and-fall death at the family’s hunting lodge, according to court documents filed Monday.

In 2018, Satterfield fell down the stairs at the Murdaugh’s South Carolina estate, called Moselle, where Murdaugh would eventually shoot and kill his wife and son three years later. At the time of her death, he said Satterfield’s fatal tumble was caused by one of his dogs tripping her.

In a Monday court filing, Murdaugh admitted “he invented the critical facts” of Satterfield’s death.

“No dogs were involved in the fall of Gloria Satterfield on February 2, 2018,” the filing reads.

The document was filed in response to a lawsuit from Nautilus Insurance, which alleges Murdaugh lied about the circumstances of Satterfield’s death in order to fraudulently obtain an insurance payout, which he then stole from Satterfield’s sons.

In Monday’s filing, Murdaugh admitted to lying but “denies the existence of any conspiracy to improperly cause Nautilus to pay a fraudulent claim.”

After Satterfield’s fall, she briefly regained consciousness, during which time Murdaugh claimed she told him that one of the dogs had caused her to trip.

“This statement was heard by no one else and is contradicted by Ms. Satterfield’s later statement to hospital staff that she had no idea what made her fall,” the document reads.

Murdaugh further claimed at the time that Satterfield wasn’t working when the accident occurred, so as to avoid a worker’s compensation defence.

“After Ms. Satterfield’s death, (Murdaugh) invented Ms. Satterfield’s purported statement that dogs caused her to fall to force his insurers to make a settlement payment.”

Nautilus is accusing Murdaugh of convincing the Satterfield children to sue him after their mother’s death in a bogus bid to get them an insurance settlement. Murdaugh then secretly pocketed the US$3.8 million payout and told the Satterfields that a settlement was never reached.

Nautilus has also named ex-lawyer Cory Fleming as one of Murdaugh’s co-conspirators in the scheme, but Murdaugh claims he acted alone in Monday’s legal filing.

The document also notes that the Satterfields recovered more than US$7.5 million after Murdaugh allegedly stole the insurance money. Murdaugh’s filing contends that Nautilus should look to recoup its missing funds from the Satterfields, since a payout never should have occurred if Murdaugh lied about the circumstances of the death.

“If Nautilus never should have made any payment to the Satterfield estate and only attempted to do so because it was the victim of fraud, then the parties in possession of a recovery of the money allegedly stolen from Nautilus are necessary parties to an action by Nautilus,” the filing reads.

Lawyer Eric Bland, who represents the Satterfield family, claims that Murdaugh is lying once again to avoid blame.

“Seems there is buzz because liar liar Alex now says he allegedly made up the story that Gloria Satterfield didnt fall down Moselle stairs by his dogs. Since when did Alex become the modicum of honesty and credibility,” he wrote in a lengthy Twitter post.

Bland also claims that the Satterfields never received any money from Nautilus, and recouped the US$7.5 million from “from parties other than Nautilus for breaches of their duties to our clients and other claims.”

“Technically the money that Nautilus paid never came to our clients. It was stolen by Alex so there is an argument that they still owe it to our clients by releases signed by the parties,” he wrote.

“This is nothing but noise. Just gutless people trying to continue to victimize Gloria’s siblings and children,” the tweet concludes.

Satterfield’s death is currently being investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. Authorities reopened her death inquiry during its investigation of Murdaugh in 2021, which led to his conviction and life sentence for killing his wife and son.
Yeah I thought so. Did you note what it said about the work comp too and claiming she was not there to work? I knew there was something about that and I actually thought he did not have work cmp in force so it wouldn't have done any good to go that route but this makes sense too.

The thing is here like Bland said basicallly, Alex lies about lying. It is hard to know what the truth is here. It doesn't say whether it was claimed he was not there but then was as I think I recall. I could be wrong of course. I have the right gist of everything just not the fine details as you see now.

There is NO hint and I am pretty sure I recall this accurately in the 911 calls that anyone but Maggie and Paul and Gloria were present. HOWEVER, I always thought back then that it was a lie he was NOT there and that she may have been killed and then I thought if he didn't kill her, I had to wonder about Paul and/or Maggie being in on something... I could swear the claim was he was at work but I can't SWEAR to that.

Anyhow as you can see, who knows what is true with his lies?

And the end of it talks about her death being reopened and you mentioned exhumation earlier. I have, as I've said, long thought this fall was no accident or leaned that way anyhow and it seems others do too if it was looked at again/is being looked at again. Charges against Alex may not be done yet...

i wish I remembered more but it just seems to me she never used those steps for one (could be wrong on that, could be wrong on all), seems to me there were some speculated issues, her gettin paid, her finding the drugs... I could be wrong on ALL of that but without a doubt, there isn't any reason to exclude the possibility this was foul play.

She doesn't know "what" tripped her. She did have consciousness then at the hospital. I know it was claimed at the home she did and was with it but then sounded like no she wasn't, never was, etc. I allow for shock but Paul and Maggie just sounded more put out at having to deal with it if anything.

Someone conscious could certainly die later but I always found it a big odd. What happened that caused the death actually? Swelling of the brain and more that they couldn't stop? She was at the hospital. And if she said at the hospital she did not know what tripped her, she was lucid and apparently not brain damaged at that time. I'm no doctor of course. What WAS her cause of death?

i wish a lot many times that we had a lawyer on here and now I wish for a doctor. At times, I wish for a plumber, etc. Lol.

Curious how that helps? One of the worst headaches I ever had was a caffeine withdrawal headache. I had no idea that was what it was and that caffeine would have fixed it after suffering from it for two days where any headache med didn''t touch it. That's not what this is though as I don't drink caffeine daily and when I do it is like one POP a day.

My guess is it is from having my muth lodged wide open on the opposite side of my face from the root canal for a long time. And of course the work done but the worst part of it is on that side but at times it is the whole head. That side is sorer inside too than the root canal itslf.

It must be very hard to sleep like that. Here, I'll help you :chair:

Have you got any painkillers in the house like Tylenol (paracetamol) ? Or codeine?

In that last article where Bland is commenting, he says the Sattersfields got $7.5 million !!!!!! I cannot fathom why they got that much, when they got that and who did it come from?

My head is hurting now trying to work out where the $7.5 million came from and who got it and when.

I have a pain killer perscription, an antibiotic and 800 mg Ibuprofen. I did not fill the painkillers as I didn't expect pain and try to never take such if I can help it. The 800 mg Ibuprofen doesn't even touch the headache. And I'm halfway through the ten of them every 6 to 8 hours.

Civil settlement? Payback from Fleming or law firm with interest? I can't keep track of all of this. Some settlement against someone I'd guess. Alex, hospital, Fleming, etc.?

A go fund me? Sympathy?

It seems we should recall the answer to this but my hurting head sure isn't going to help.

Try a really strong coffee if you have no pain killers in the house. Over here you can actually buy Paracetamol and caffeine tablets and also paracetamol and codeine. I'm surprised the 800mg ibuprofen didn't work. I cannot take either ibuprofen or aspirin as it makes my ulcer flare up.

It doesn't even touch it and my entire life a rare stronger headache (very rare) something like that would do it (800 mg Ibu). I am wondering if it is sinus. Years ago i had some headaches for a short time that OTC Ibu, etc. wouldn''t touch I went in and doc told me it is more than likely sinus. I said I don't HAVE sinus problems. never have had and he told me you never need to have symptoms, you'd be surprised, try a sinus tab. I did and it finally cleared.

Thinking about that with this. I mean it is face/head...

I am almost out of the 800 mg Ibu. I am only taking one after 6 or 8 hours but it does little to nothing even at all through those hours anyhow. Nothing!

I was given a painkiller prescip but did not fill it. And needless to say I haven't felt like going out to do so. And first day after wasn't actually bad, the ones after have been.

The only other thing is neat alcohol. Have you any vodka or gin. Rub some on the gum area the pain is coming from. I had pain like this once from a dentist and it was from the needle they had injected me with to numb the pain. And try a strong coffee too.

Thank you. I am at wit's end and ready to try anything.

You could also try ice on your cheekbone. Did you have an injection because sometimes they can inadvertently inject into your sinuses. Years ago when I was a kid, the dentist injected me in four places to do loads of fillings and when I came out to be picked up by my Dad I was crying with pain as the numbness had worn off. My Dad was mad as heck and went in to the dentist and had a right go at him. I hate injections and the dentist ever since.

Same way here with dentists/dental work. i'd rather go to the doctor. I had a dentist as a child and into my young adult years that likely played into that. I fear mouth and dental pain more than anything I think almost. It makes me loathe to go in and get care which isn't good either as no care and then when I do, here we go, like this time and could it just be a breeze after? Of course not so will make me less so wanting to again and yet I need work. Bah humbug. Sigh and ouch today again.

Good for your dad! The problem with mine was he stiffed on the novocaine I think and and would start drilling and working and cause pain when one wasn't numb. That is the one when i was younger. This one I think did a good job, I didn't feel anything during the procedure and even the first day after I thought all was good and then it HIT.

And is no better today than yesterday. Really wearing me down. It's finally Monday and hopefully I can reach them and they can get me in to take a look, tell me how to relieve it or if anything is wrong.

I think being a pain in that area is far superior to being an arse like you.

I am proud to be a pain and only wish I could be around to serve it to you more often. Apparently I still get the job done often enough though since you notice and point it out.

No time nor energy to watch all but appaently more is surfacing about Clerk Becky Hill including she instructed a staff member to cross out Colleton County on a check and put in her name... As said no time to watch it all. He is sourcing FITS Nes on some of it if anyone has a chance to go finding/digging or listen to this.
