PAUL & MAGGIE MURDAUGH: South Carolina vs. Alex Murdaugh for Double Homicide of wife & son *GUILTY*

This case is being kept pretty quiet, no major details released to speak of (other than it does say there were two different guns used), but no info regarding who found them, who called 911, very little else.

Of interest, the grandfather died just a few days after these murders and it sounds as if he was ill from various articles so probably not unexpected. I think of the typical motives, did grandpa have a big estate? How big in the overall family of grandpa's on down? They sound like a pretty well known family and a powerful one in their state, more on that in the article.

No time nor energy to watch all but appaently more is surfacing about Clerk Becky Hill including she instructed a staff member to cross out Colleton County on a check and put in her name... As said no time to watch it all. He is sourcing FITS Nes on some of it if anyone has a chance to go finding/digging or listen to this.

I did eventually watch all of this one and it was worth it. He is a defense atty and I don't always agree with him but can't ignore his very good points...

Ok this is the article from Fits news that has all the info about the additional ethic investigation in addition to the jury tampering. Becky Hill has had to hand over her phone. There are a lot of additional allegations in here that I hadn't heard about before. There is going to be a Grand Jury convened for the phone hacking apparently.

BTW I said I could not take ibuprofen orally because of a duodenal ulcer HOWEVER, I can use ibuprofen gel on things like sprains and topical pain and it is pretty good. Handy to have in the house for things like sprains. Because it goes straight to the site of the pain that you apply it to. A few weeks ago I tripped up a low step in my yard and went arse over tit putting out my left arm to save my precious face. Of course the left hand and wrist was painful for several weeks afterwards but a few weeks of rubbing on that gel and a flexi bandage support has sorted it out. I have several tubes of that stuff now as a standby. My kids thought I had broken my wrist and kept saying to go to A and E but I was adamant it wasn't a break and all they would have done is what I did or plaster cast it. I iced it first of course. Always remember RICE. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Then the Ibuprofen tabs or gel later on.

Our son did similar with his ankle a few weeks before my fall and the same treatment worked on that too.

Interesting. Would you say it works better than ingested Ibu?

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — Neil Gordon, the co-author of Becky Hill's Murdaugh trial book "Behind The Doors of Justice: The Murdaugh Murders," has filed an ethics complaint with the South Carolina bar.

The complaint is against Lori Murray, a licensed and practicing South Carolina Attorney, commonly known as Lawyer Lori on TikTok.

Gordon claims Murray is making false statements about him and his wife on her platform.

“Murray has refused to name the source of the leaked report, which isn’t public record until the conclusion of an investigation,” Gordon said. “I believe Murray has violated the state bar code of conduct; an officer of the court should never divulge delicate information during an on-going investigation.

"It’s behavior unbecoming of her esteemed profession. Couching her statements by putting the word ‘allegedly’ in front of them is no defense for her behavior.”

The list of supposedly false allegations made by Murray which Gordon names directly are the following:

 • Murray claimed Melissa Gordon attended Alex Murdaugh’s trial for 30 days and that Ms. Hill gave her preferential treatment by allowing her a seat in court each day.
 • Gordon attended the trial for four days total and waited in line like the rest of the spectators.
 • Murray claimed Gordon was given free rein to shoot pictures inside the courthouse and that she took a picture of surveillance video showing Alex Murdaugh reading a book in his jail cell during jury deliberations.
 • Gordon was not a designated pool photographer and therefore was not allowed to bring her camera into the courthouse or to take any pictures inside of the building.
“This is all important because Ms. Murray is falsely claiming we colluded with Becky Hill during the trial to write our book. That is patently false,” Gordon said.

“As we’ve stated all along, Melissa didn’t meet Becky Hill until the trial was nearly over, and I didn’t meet her until three weeks after the jury’s verdict was in. Ms. Murray’s defamatory actions have caused my family a great deal of trauma. We hope the South Carolina bar sanctions her for her reckless behavior.”

Ok so this is the latest article I have found about the ethics investigation.

New allegations of misconduct have been leveled against embattled Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill, and now the 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office has asked the South Carolina Attorney General and the State Grand Jury to take the lead in investigating.
Hill, who oversaw the Walterboro courthouse during convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh's double murder trial this spring and even read the guilty verdicts, was accused of jury tampering by Murdaugh's attorneys in September. Now, reports are surfacing that she is facing separate ethics allegations that involve possible misuse of her office and misuse of public money.

In light of these new developments, 14th Circuit Solicitor Duffie Stone has asked the South Carolina State Grand Jury to take the lead on investigating these claims, which may also include allegations against Hill's son, former Colleton County Information Technology Director Jeffrey Colton Hill, who was arrested by state police Nov. 21 and charged with wiretapping.
It is unclear at this point if Jeffrey Hill's arrest is related to Becky Hill's case. In a Nov. 28 letter to the S.C. Attorney General's Office, 14th Circuit Solicitor "Duffie" Stone stated that the Hill cases involved "potential public corruption in Colleton County" and asked the AG's Office to impanel the S.C. State Grand Jury to investigate the matters.
"These cases have been under review for several months by the Public Integrity Unit, a collaboration between the 14th and 1st Circuit Solicitors Offices, and the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division," Solicitor Stone said in a statement. "The state grand jury is an investigative body vested with powers county grand juries do not. Those include the ability to compel sworn testimony. This power can be helpful in investigations involving potential public corruption."
On Dec. 4, Attorney General Alan Wilson responded to Stone's request for a criminal investigation by letter, stating that the AG's office has "decided to assume jurisdictions for all prosecutorial actions related to these cases."
However, a spokesperson would not confirm the State Grand Jury's involvement.
"By law, State Grand Jury matters are secret unless and until it hands down an indictment, so we cannot comment on what the State Grand Jury may or may not be doing," said spokesman Robert Kittle.
The Hampton County Guardian has obtained unofficial copies of the ethics complaints that were reportedly filed June 28 with the S.C. Ethics Commission. However, such documents are typically sealed unless or until legal action is taken.
The complaints allege that Becky Hill misused public money in matters unrelated to the Murdaugh trial, and also allegedly misused her office and access as Clerk of Court to write and promote a book on the case, Behind the Doors of Justice: The Murdaugh Murders.
FITSNews of Columbia first reported the ethics complaints last week and they were discussed in-depth on Court TV and other media outlets this week.
Hill's attorneys have not publicly responded to the ethics claims, but Hill's co-author, Neil Gordon, has publicly denied many of them.
While it's not clear how the recent complaints might impact the jury tampering investigation, Murdaugh's attorneys have since filed a motion requesting a hearing and potentially a new murder trial.

Two jurors claim misconduct, the other 10 don't. I wonder if Alex's lawyers saw the Becky Hill stuff and decided to try and "frame" her to get a new trial, using a little 💰 to have two of them say she did stuff. How could she have possibly known that the juror that was let go was going to be a holdout?

Her son's legal troubles are interesting. I wonder when we'll find out.

Wild? Yes. Out of the question for Murdaugh, no.

Also, an appellate judge would have to determine that her actions influenced the jury enough to affect the juries decision. I think that's a long shot.

I actually did hear this. He was on I think STS (and has been before) going on about this attorney's TikTok and her accusations, particularly about his wife.

I've had very similar thoughts from the very start and in this case as you say it isn't farfetched at all, not in the Murdaugh case, connections, corruption and more and with this defense or Alex himself. Something smells here and not only smells it reeks/stinks. I don't find it hard to believe at all that one or two jurors could be influenced, bribed, whatever and that the rest and most are SOLID. I also have wondered if a ringer did not get in from the start or if someone was gotten to early on but that person was dismissed.

Alll this sh*t she was supposedly doing but no one else noticed and the defense didn't, the other jurors didn't, etc. NOR said anything before this.

There is a LOT I wonder about.

I do with the Clerk as well. It does NOT help that she DID make the stupid decision to write a book and I DO think it was a dumb decision. I don't know if she is clean or not but there are things going on here.

I've said always, well I think I have, that I am decided on Alex and this defense and have been for a long time even before all of this but I'm not sure I believe this juror stuff or even stuff about her is all true. BUT if she did ANYTHING wrong in her years as Clerk of Court and especially related to Murdaugh, that was absolutely STUPID.

My guess is there will be a hearing on this as the defense THREATENED the other jurors, that they'd have to testify. I don't know that it will result in a new trial. It well may, hard to say.

But I can't shake the feeling this was all planned for a long time.

They need a new trial and they need Newman out imo. Imo the hardly tried in the first trial (the defense) and I think the knew what they were already going to do if he was convicted and it wasn't a hung jury. They maybe didn't expect their ringer to get dismissed but it was always a possibility the person could be an alternate so they planned for the chance of conviction... With Newman out, i wouldn't even be surprised if a pocket judge of theirs gets all this. Of course the problem is we don't know who they are. There is one female still on the bench that imo is one.

I don't think what you are thinking possible is far fetched at all in this one. Not a bit and in fact it would fit with what has always been done and what Alex and his cronies have always done and what has went on in this area for years upon years and why people ARE scared to put themselves out there and come forward. And some finally did, assured they would have their backs and he would be prosecuted and look what is now going on...

If you didn't watch the entire recent financial sentencing and listen to all of the attorneys and victims, you should. It's long and I ended up watching in a really mixed up order but I think worth it.

Excerpt from the above article that includes the pdf of the first complaint against the clerk. Click on the red ".pdf" in the below paragraph to read the complaint.
Fits news are working to get a copy of the second complaint, which I believe is the one the co-author is complaining about.

"This week, our media outlet received a copy of the first ethics complaint filed against Hill. We also received a detailed report on the contents of the second report – a copy of which we are working to obtain.

In the first complaint (.pdf), it was alleged that Hill engaged in “unethical behavior” and “utilized her authority, the Colleton County courthouse and taxpayer’s money outside the scope of routine court business” to promote her book as well as a book by local reporter Michael DeWitt."

It's interesting imo. I like her. She had one recently I didn't agree with and that happens with any. Usually it is because of course I am like you and NOT one who leans towards defense. it wasn't the one you watched, hat one I thought good, it didn't bother me, it was one after on another case I believe. Maybe Delphi...

And she is just likable. In the one you are talking of that you haven't watched yet, she talked of their Thanksgiving and she made a cauliflower casserole, I'd probably call that a dish, not a casserole but she said it hit out of the park and everyone loved it and she went on to say how she is NOT a cook so that was a new experience for her lol. She found a recipe on the internet, made it and added more cheese than called for and figured how could more cheese go wrong and all loved it and raved.

She's funny too lol. Personable. Never heard her mention cooking before but you know that just added to it for me lol but she does NOT cook and never gave the recipe hmph!. She has talked of her dad on occasion.

The one I posted is good. It points out what we know lawyers do and their clients. She pointed out the things Hill answered, the things she ignored that the defense claimed, the things that she came back o part of but not the rest, etc. You know it is all a dance, just as it is in a trial. I am thinking though the things Hill hit hard on are false. Or she is SO sure there is NO proof or any juror that can prove or say otherwise or be thought to be lying that she came on strong in them. And then there are things she does not deny or again ignores, either/or.

Lee likes to use different highlighters and chart and she is good at it and probably what she does to prepare when she lawyers for one. It took a few minutes for her to explain and then to recall her own way on this case/chart of this but once she got in the groove, I didn't even try to follow her markings, I just listened. She responded to this (the clerk), totally ignored this claim, came back strong as to absolutely false in others.

It is worthwhile imo as it got me thinking even aside from what she was pointing out. And I don't believe the Egg juror, not in full anyhow. Again my opinion may not agree with Lee's, I don't know. i still haven't finished it myself go figure loll but was a good 2/3 through.

Just winding down after a SIX day stretch. And need nothing more than a day off. And guess what? I have a root canal tomorrow. Never have had one in my life. What am I in for? And on top of that of course I have FIRES to put out I am not even sure yet again I will be able to deal with after that. Fun times. Always :(
Food. In the north. Some NOT all, Call it a "Hot Dish". The south a "Casserole". The south wins. :gavel: EXTRA CHEESE!!! :rockon:Well...
......Try to find the recipe on the internet. Like YOU told me to with a turkey. I have had 2 canals. I hate the word "root" GAH!!!! PHOBIA!!!! I had no problems at all. O.K. I mean with that. I know you have so many important things to do, And NO TIME. I understand that one. I went through 2 drawers full, And an according file of my dad's that weighed 9.4 lbs. (Yes. I weighed it). Of paperwork. That was not in any kind of order whatsoever. That was a  HUGE hurdle. I'll be at it 8, 10, 12 hours. So I can't imagine how stressed you are. How ate you to get much of anything done working 6 days?! I'm sorry my very dear friend. I 💖 U. :hugs: :nodding: Hi Snitty. And...FLUFFY!!!

Pamela Pinkney was about $0.4m. I read that Gloria was $4.3m and Plylers were $1.2m so those three alone come to $5.9m. Then there was the guy who loaned him $600k and ended up losing another $192k was it? So another $0.8m brings it to $6.7m. The policeman was mentioned too and the Independent link below mentions $100k was stolen from him and also mentions $121k stolen from Randy Murdaugh making it almost $7m total.

I guess the money he owes the firm must be the rest, bringing it to the total $8.3m figure that is often quoted.

The article below mentions 7 counts of money laundering and covers some of the victims and amounts so I have copied the relevant section and updated the amounts above.

From the article -

Convicted killer Alex Murdaugh was confronted by his victims in a courtroom in South Carolina today before being sentenced to 27 years in prison on a slew of state financial crime charges.

“You seem empty, I don’t see anything,” Judge Clifton Newman told Murdaugh as he handed down the sentence. “Hopefully something will emerge in your spirit, in your soul.”

For more than a decade, Murdaugh stole over $12.5m from clients at his law firm in a vast multi-million-dollar fraud scheme.
Alex Murdaugh to be sentenced today on state financial crimes charges
Today, Alex Murdaugh will be back in court in Beaufort County to be sentenced on the slew of state financial fraud charges.
The convicted killer accepted a plea deal in the case earlier this month – admitting to the sprawling fraud scheme in court.
The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office had offered Murdaugh a deal to plead guilty to 22 of the 101 charges in the case in exchange for a reduced sentence.
The 22 charges include: seven counts of money laundering, four counts of obtaining a signature by false pretences, six counts of breach of trust with fraudulent intent, and one count each of breach of trust with fraudulent intent, forgery, computer crimes, criminal conspiracy and willful attempt to evade or defeat a tax. The other charges will be dismissed.
Based on the remaining charges, Murdaugh could face up to 239 years in prison.
However, prosecutors are asking Judge Clifton Newman to sentence him to 27 years – a sentence which would be served concurrently to his existing two life sentences for murder.
Who are Alex Murdaugh’s financial crime victims?
For more than a decade, Murdaugh stole over $8.5m from several clients at his law firm in a scheme going back more than a decade.
Among the victims is the family of Gloria Satterfield.
Satterfield worked as the Murdaugh family housekeeper for more than two decades before she died in a tragic “trip and fall” down the steps of the family home in 2018
Murdaugh recommended that her sons hire his friend and accomplice Cory Fleming to represent them in bringing a wrongful death claim against him – as the homeowner of the property where she died – so that they could collect from his homeowner’s insurance policies.
The insurance companies ultimately settled the estate’s claim for more than $4m – two payments of $505,000 and $3.8m.
Murdaugh and Fleming then stole the settlement money for themselves and the housekeeper’s sons didn’t get a dime.
Much of the stolen money was funneled through a fake “Forge” bank account which sought to imitate the legitimate and totally unrelated business Forge Consulting.
The Satterfield case is among the most shocking, due to Murdaugh’s personal ties to the family.
But several other victims also fell foul of his schemes.
<p>Hakeem Pinckney</p>

Hakeem Pinckney
(provided)
Among the other victims were the family of Hakeem Pinckney – who he represented through his law firm Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth & Detrick (PMPED).
Pinckney was a deaf man who became a quadriplegic after being involved in a horror car crash in 2009. He died two years later.
Murdaugh stole most of a $309,000 settlement and than an additional $89,000 payment meant for Pinckney’s mother.
Another victim was former lieutenant with the South Carolina Highway Patrol Tommy Moore, who hired Murdaugh as his personal injury lawyer when he suffered a broken neck in the line of duty.
Murdaugh has admitted he stole $100,000 of a $125,000 settlement for the officer.
Murdaugh even stole a $121,000 check from his own brother Randy Murdaugh – who also worked at the law firm PMPED.
I've noticed. Very strange. Every person I have ever heard of or met, Or knew with the last name "Pinkney" Have been "African-American". I wonder why?. Just an observation.

Eric Bland said that there were more victims that were past the statute of limitations.

Apparently, it is only 2 or 3 years for financial crimes.

It is good to hear Judge Newman sentencing. See link below Alex will only serve about 21 years. He has to serve 85% of 27 years, which is 23 years, plus deduct his time served already of 2 years, makes 21 years. This is while he is also serving his two murder sentences though, so in actual fact it won't make much difference.

I was amazed how forgiving his victims all were. One guy actually wants to visit him in prison.

O.K. 85%. I'm glad that was a stipulation.

Didn't know whether to hit a hug emoji, a laugh one or a happy one as you said it all right in this here paragraph and you have it right on. I can't take care of it all, there is no way. Boy do I understand your paperwork thing and your dad's file too?! I still have a box or two of my brother's papers and mine alone are nuts and that's without emails and records and things on thumb drives, etc. Take care of my health, dental or even a home or family in another state? WHEN? HOW?

Anywho lol shouldn't get too off track I suppose in a case thread but I expected you to say ICK to a cauliflower casserole. So that one sounds good to you with lots of cheese? I'd try it but she never shared it. No time anyhow to cook these days. Obviously. Bites. I told you to look on the 'net for how to cook a turkey? Lol. Did you? And did you cook one? I'd never call it a cauliflower hot dish or casserole. it is a veggie side lol. Casseroles and hot dishes are to have meats/proteins, etc. in them and then veg and noodles or taters or some such. Baked mac and cheese is baked mac and cheese. I'd say baked cauliflower and cheese is baked cauli and cheese. Lee admits she is no cook and so the word casserole may have been her mistake lol, like you know maybe doesn't know the difference between a muffin and a cupcake, a cookie and a bar, etc. or a side dish and a casserole.

Loved this post of yours! Miss you! Miss all!!

Now, what thread am I on as I'd better tie this in to the case.

Well yes, Alex is from the south, they all are and I guess Lee does the word casserole for that reason too lol. Alex looked well fed through most of his years. He has trimmed up a bit since his incarceration. i wonder what his drink was. Scotch neat? Top bourbon straight? For some reason Smoky and the Bandit just came to mind and the beer running for the average folk... Making a bit of fun I guess about the south and its characterization but I really don't mean it. I like Lee. But then ya know she is a Harvard grad... I like lots in the south. Not so much Alex and team. I like Eric Bland but then he isn't from there originally either...

There is a LOT wrong there yet in that low country and maybe the state. Arbery is another. A lot of dirty and corrupt. GA. Of course it goes on everywhere, however in some areas I think there are some long, long roots (and canals lol) or a dirty effort to stay in power, etc. The people aren't bad, they are STUCK in it and can't do anything about it.

The world has only gotten worse, however more light is getting shined upon it, however, even THEN the power and connections and efforts just go underground and they find a way. However when all rats are sinking, some leave the boat or however that goes... Jump ship. Make deals. Save thine selves. There is a LOT more of that necessary in this one here yet.

I know. I went on and on. It's a day off, shouldn't even be on here and don't know where to start as to life fires.

How did she know what jurors were holdouts? She had them in a separate room didn't she? Also 2 jurors out of 10 claiming misconduct is two too many.

I am trying to find this second document.
