PAUL & MAGGIE MURDAUGH: South Carolina vs. Alex Murdaugh for Double Homicide of wife & son *GUILTY*

This case is being kept pretty quiet, no major details released to speak of (other than it does say there were two different guns used), but no info regarding who found them, who called 911, very little else.

Of interest, the grandfather died just a few days after these murders and it sounds as if he was ill from various articles so probably not unexpected. I think of the typical motives, did grandpa have a big estate? How big in the overall family of grandpa's on down? They sound like a pretty well known family and a powerful one in their state, more on that in the article.

Just found this and started watching live and it was a recap. One juror has said they were influenced by what the clerk said. Now it appears the other jurors were in another room with their cell phones, watching the proceedings so they were not supposed to watch right?

Then they said the jurors in the trial were split 9 in one room and 3 in another. Due to room not being big enough. Well that sounds like bull to me. So if those 3 were holdouts, then that's not right IMO.

That's all I have seen so far anyway.

Watched a bit more and they are saying the clerk came in to the room and that is not normal. It is usually the bailiff to ask about food requests and stuff.

Not going to be able to watch any more till later.

So South Carolina has juror rooms that won't hold 12 people? Wow! Genius' in SC. When I was a juror we had one room with a long table and the bailiff was the one who took our lunch order. I told her that I was under doctors orders to have lobster and filet mignon for lunch every day. She didn't buy it.

Almost every single juror heard nothing and was not influenced. HILL is UP NEXT but like courts that are backed up do they took an hour and a half lunch AFTER starting late.

One juror imo lied and said her verdict was influenced by both Hill and other jurors. Or she is just someone who does whatever anyone wants. Or was paid. A juror accessed FB while they were in the room and saw the questions being asked.

Wasn't dull. Wish I could watch it all but will have to catch the rest later I guess. Because of an unneeded and unnecessary long lunch.

Well, if she said she was influenced by other jurors, who gives a :poop: what Hill said. She was probably lying and getting a check from Buster.

Well, the other jurors influence kind of screws her testimony. She should be told that: Believe it or not, other jurors are supposed to have influence over you. That's the whole point of juries. They discuss the case and if there are differing opinions they talk about it and try to sway the minority of jurors to their side.

So far Hill has denied telling the jury anything that would influence the jury. She said there were about 3 jurors standing in line to get into the jury room, before the trial ended, when the bailiff approached her and she told him that they were going to allow the financial evidence and that the defendant had decided he may take the stand.

The talking heads on CourtTv are saying that it might count as influencing the jury. The jury should not hear about upcoming evidence. I think that's a weak argument. The cross examination is coming up next.

The defense had a conversation about adding more witness' and the judge denied it. He said they had plenty of time to give the court a defense witness list and it was a done deal as far as more witness being added. So, no.

The talking heads are saying are saying that one juror did say that it influenced her. They aren't mentioning the jurors influencing her. I think that's an important thing to discuss.

Hill made a net profit of $100,000 on her book, that she had to split with the co-author. She said that wasn't a lot of money.

“We go from here to Court of Appeals, then South Carolina Supreme Court – and then federal court,” Murdaugh attorney Dick Harpootlian told CNN.

Harpootlian said he believes the process to get back to the Court of Appeals will take about a month.

“It's either going to be decided, in my opinion, in our favor in the appellate court or five years down the road in federal court unless they change the federal law,” said Murdaugh attorney Jim Griffin following the evidentiary hearing.

Haven't been on at all as i took every minute to watch all of this finishing when I got home last night and I didn't want to know the decision until I watched it as if live myself. I didn't want to know the ending, I wanted to see it as if it was live so that I had no thoughts when I heard it.

A lot to say on the whole thing but may never get the time and/or catch up. It bites because I love the fact there is so much interesting in it to discuss but I likely will not get the chance.

Plenty of time. Nothing much will happen till they put in the appeal.

This article gives a full update on all the upcoming appeals connected to Murdaugh. Lafitte and Fleming are both appealing too, the former, his conviction and the latter, his sentence.

Personally, I don't find Lafitte and Fleming appealing in the slightest, but that's just me.

Laffitte wants a new trial based on removal of two jurors.

Lawyers for Russell Laffitte have filed their formal appeal of his federal conviction.

The appeal comes 13 months after a jury convicted Laffitte of six charges related to a multi-million-dollar bank fraud and money laundering conspiracy alongside convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh.

In August, Judge Richard Gergel sentenced Laffitte to serve seven years in federal prison for his crimes.

Laffitte’s attorneys base their appeal on the claim of the improper removal of two jurors during deliberations.

A federal appeals court is expected to hear the issue in the new year.
