PAUL & MAGGIE MURDAUGH: South Carolina vs. Alex Murdaugh for Double Homicide of wife & son *GUILTY*

This case is being kept pretty quiet, no major details released to speak of (other than it does say there were two different guns used), but no info regarding who found them, who called 911, very little else.

Of interest, the grandfather died just a few days after these murders and it sounds as if he was ill from various articles so probably not unexpected. I think of the typical motives, did grandpa have a big estate? How big in the overall family of grandpa's on down? They sound like a pretty well known family and a powerful one in their state, more on that in the article.

I thought I guessed resignation (forced) in my post but don't see it now.

Hardly a surprise with all the sides of things going on there and all else.

Quite the Peyton Place still or so it seems. Lol I used that term the other day and my daughter didn't know what it meant and had to ask.

So no mention if the presser was worth watching. I suppose it's just a formal announcement with her "reasons" or "excuses" and thanking all and saying she loved serving the people?

So I've watched the presser. Hard to say if anything else is behind it but it certainly does and can make sense so other candidates can run without her as incumbent in the party and can run without questions about such as investigations are ongoing. Interesting that the entire Clerk's office was behind her and the deputy clerk was it?

On the other hand, this could be some kind of deal...

I'm neither a fan nor one that buys all the other way either. In fact I think quite little of most on both sides of this sh*t down there. The judges I will except as no reason to think otherwise thus far, but almost all others, oh yeah.

Murdaugh flunked polygraph exam about $6 million in undisclosed thefts, fed prosecutors say

More than $6 million in money stolen by disgraced lawyer Alex Murdaugh is unaccounted for, and he failed a polygraph test about where it is, federal prosecutors said in a federal court filing on Tuesday afternoon. The disclosures were made in a motion by federal prosecutors that seeks the maximum penalty for Murdaugh for his federal financial crimes.

The maximum penalty for Murdaugh’s federal financial crimes is a total of 150 years in prison — three 30-year sentences and three 20-year sentences for the 22 counts of financial crimes. Last fall, Murdaugh pleaded guilty to those crimes, including wire fraud and money laundering, in a Charleston federal court before U.S. Judge Richard Gergel. Murdaugh, 55, is due to be sentenced for those federal crimes on Monday, April 1, by Gergel. As part of his guilty plea last September, Murdaugh agreed to be polygraphed and to tell the truth. But after a polygraph session and interviews with the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, prosecutors now believe Murdaugh did not tell the truth, “despite numerous interview sessions during which the Government gave Murdaugh every opportunity to be fully truthful and forthright,” the government’s motion said.

Wow, what a find. Thank you for this news!

It's been a constant refrain of where did all the money actually go?

It was part of his PLEA deal that he be polygraphed and tell the truth so is the plea deal out the window?

It should be.

Nothing is surprising with him. It never ends.

Peyton Place LOL. That's years ago.

Oh wow I need to get caught up on this case. So does her resignation mean no more ethics investigation? Has anyone watched the presser?
I did. Don't know if anyone else did. Commented here but never said. Since no review or insight given I watched it.

Most plea deals include language that the defendant cannot appeal their conviction or their sentence. I don't know if this one did. If it didn't, the states negotiators should be fired.
You can just plead guilty. There is no deal then. I think that is what Fleming and maybe Lafitte did in this Murdaugh case and KK did in the Anthony Shots/Delphi case. They can then appeal the sentence.

That would be some expensive coke. $6 million in coke wouldn't come close to explaining it. JMO
He was using for years and probably buying for others too. Lets say it was 6 years so a million a year that's $80,000 a month ie $20,000 a week. We have seen his payments to his cousin at $50,000 at a time approximately for the drugs he purchased from him. That would probably be for about two weeks worth. I am no expert on coke prices but we have seen these payments.

Just saw this. I won't get to see this live but WTH is this about??!!! @Tresir

And her attorney said it was nothing to do with the investigation or the ethics or anything like that. Yeah right.
The panel don't believe it either. One said it was a dog and pony show. Another said it was likely to give a week's notice before the deadline for the candidacy on 1st April. Neil Gordon is one of the people on this panel (Becky's coauthor) and said he was interviewed by Sled for two hours about the investigation. It could be misconduct in public office because of her book writing.

She should run if it has to be announced on April Fools day.

I have to wonder on this one. I am not sure I ever bought the entire Alex using thing and that's where all money went. I think there's more to it. It also was a convenient excuse right off the bat putting self in rehab. This man is a con and while I can believe he indulged in all kinds of gluttony from drugs to alcohol to gambling to prostitute, I also think he was trying to cover it all and probably dealing and more and had one heck of a racket going on but from his own inability to support the lifestyle he and his family were accustomed to or wanted to portray, I don't know.... I just think there's more to it than it all was his own drug habit. He's always trying to cover one fire he is about to get caught in to another and had to be the big shoit and that isn't even all of it. He was a shyster, a scam artist, you name it.

I still wonder if he hastened his own dad's death. Seriously.

Did anyone here ever watch Eric Alan's videoes on the Murdaughs? Lots of talk of was it grandpa drug running...

I don't think even the SURFACE of the truth has been touched in this case or how deep it goes.
