PAUL & MAGGIE MURDAUGH: South Carolina vs. Alex Murdaugh for Double Homicide of wife & son *GUILTY*

This case is being kept pretty quiet, no major details released to speak of (other than it does say there were two different guns used), but no info regarding who found them, who called 911, very little else.

Of interest, the grandfather died just a few days after these murders and it sounds as if he was ill from various articles so probably not unexpected. I think of the typical motives, did grandpa have a big estate? How big in the overall family of grandpa's on down? They sound like a pretty well known family and a powerful one in their state, more on that in the article.

Wow we are the same age basically and I've never been polygraphed in my life and I can't even imagine such going on even for a job around here, especially 40 years ago. And you've had one twice, both job related???

That being said I know a fair bit about them and have looked into them and real polygraphers a fair amount and yes, I think the normal practice is for questions to be submitted and went through with prior. Your pen example is a good one, I came home with a pen I put in my pocket during the work day as I was using it and it also went back with me the next work day in my pocket. Not intentional and I was not stealing. Normally I carry my own, didn't have it that day and out of habit such goes back in the pocket.

Another good example would be sex and cheating. Did you ever cheat on your wife? One person may feel kissing is cheating and the next may not. So then OTHER than kissing have you ever cheated on your wife Alex? Or did you ever discipline your son harshly? Again one may think harsh is a timeout and another may think only spanking means such. As I understand it, these are why questions are gone through first and either adjusted OR not but then with followup exams zeroing in more on the failed questions and discussing the first gives the reason for the false value. Okay OTHER than a time out or taking his phone away, did you ever harshly discipline your son? If they fail again, their explanation they gave isn't going to fly.

That's how I understand them to work and I'd have a hard time believing the govt. sent in some fly by night polygrapher not being more than adequately qualified.

To Bill Clinton: Did you EVER have sex with Monica? And YES BILL oral sex is sex for the purpose of this exam. Imaginary example.

It depends on what the definition of "is" is.

One thing she's wrong about is that Polygraph results are admissible in court, but only if the prosecution and defense agree to allow them in. Which never happens.
I haven't watched it, I'm watching Nate on Daybell but I said that before. They CAN be admissible with agreement. I haven't heard what Lee said. I agree it isn't generally going to happen that agreement though. They sure can be quite an investigative tool though and in this case Alex AGREED to one to get a deal.

My God I don't know where to start and don't have it in me right now to address it all.

Joran has nothing to do with this. And no matter what a polygrapher said, Alex was answering questions on a polygraph truthfully or not.

Of course defense needs time and does not know or can respond fully right now. No surprise there.

I don't see where they would have made or cut a deal or needed assurance he would remain in prison when he was sentenced to more than one life sentence already. Unless they knew a fix was in the works because of Alex's deep connections and people we probably don't even know of who were complicit or worse.

I've said and believed always the drug habit explains nothing as to the amount of $$ and I don't even know that I fully believe there was a drug habit.

Are they talking about a different atty here? A brother? A partner? That law firm is not clear with me, never has been. Not accusing, but not cleared.

Also have said they've hardly scratched the surface of who should go down here. There is a female judge for example who in my opinion should be under fire and gone. And we ONLY know what' been given us...

To me this case is like Epstein and Daybell, they are nowhere close to having indicted everyone who should be in these cases.

Here we go with another drama and probably half the truth if that. There is a battle royale going on here we only know the 1/2 of. Same with Hill and her son, etc. It RUNS DEEP. And don't think for a minute there aren't any politics involved as well and powers against powers.
I am wondering if the GJ they are talking about is the Hill GJ. I don't have a clue what attorneys they are talking about.

So I'm not sure if we knew this but in January, SLED opened two investigations into Becky Hill and this is in addition to the wiretapping against her son.

One investigation into the alleged jury tampering and one into using her office for personal gain. They are both still open AFAIK.

I'd add here that it very likely is admissible of course for the judge to see in this case for sentencing because it was part of the deal for sentencing, that he pass such, and take one, and he failed it.

I've had to look at it again, don't recall the GJ part. I'm on a short window this morning, if you feel like refreshing me, I'd appreciate it. What does Alex's deal and polygraph failure have to do with Hill? Right now I'm' even drawing a blank on Hill having a GJ?

I have the feeling this is an attorney not yet named from how it is said but the name skirted. It is speculation but I can't help but think it is someone in the firm. They claim he is trying to protect him and that makes me think it may be a brother or a good friend/partner. Sheer speculaton on my part.

I wonder if it ever gets old to Poot and Griff trying to defend a man who keeps putting his foot in it and screwing up more. I wonder if any of his former cronies in trouble or at risk yet of getting in trouble hate him for his sheer stupidity, excess, murders and calling attention to all their corruption. He seems to care about his friends and family but we know (I do, think all do) that he cares naught and killed his wife and son and got his friends in trouble and shows no remorse. It's a house of cards is his reason and that he doesn't want to lose anyone with any influence left in is life imo. Purely selfish motives. If they all go down, he has no one in any position to help him is kind of what I think. Partly anyhow.

Pretty sure we knew that and we hear it referred to every so often but no results yet that I can recall as to the office for personal gain. The jury tampering, I think their findings were used in the new trial effort hearing, etc. weren't they? SLED's results I mean. Not that that judge allowed a lot in, and only with the jurors that actually deliberated.

I get the impression the two SLED investigations into the clerk are separate and still ongoing. An ongoing GJ was mentioned regarding attorneys but there is also a GJ regarding the wire tapping. So two GJ's and two SLED investigations altogether. I may have got the wrong end of the stick though.

Sentence is in. 40 years to run concurrently with state sentence.

CNN —
Convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh received another prison sentence on Monday, this time in federal court, where a judge sentenced him to 40 years after he pleaded guilty last year to nearly two dozen charges of conspiracy, fraud and money laundering.

The federal sentence – which includes an order Murdaugh pay more than $8.7 million in restitution to his victims – will run concurrently with the 27 years he’s already serving following his guilty plea in state court to similar crimes.

Both the federal and state cases stemmed from financial misconduct that prosecutors say saw the now-disbarred attorney defraud his personal injury clients and law firm of millions of dollars.

That’s in addition to the two consecutive life sentences he received a year ago for his conviction of the June 2021 murders of his wife, Maggie, and 22-year-old son, Paul – killings state prosecutors cast as a desperate attempt to distract from and delay investigations into his unraveling financial schemes.

While Murdaugh insists he is innocent of the murders, he has admitted to the financial crimes, saying he was maintaining a yearslong opioid addiction.

Murdaugh pleaded guilty last September to 22 federal charges, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud, wire fraud, bank fraud and money laundering.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

So they said there was one regarding attorneys? A GJ? No names though or descriptions of who?

Rest sounds right. Not sure they are still actively investigating the jury tampering, they did those interviews and such already and a hearing was held and AM did not get a new trial. Doesn't mean they wouldn't take new info of course if it came.

Federal crimes sentence adds 40 years plus restitution

I think this was the article I found confusing as it does says "adds" 40 years if I recall but then says to run concurrently. Also does this mean he is in prison 40 years as the concurrent part would run out after 27 yrs and he'd have another 13 to go wouldn' he? It SHOULD work that way if it doesn't. The longer sentence wins.

Also did they ACCEPT his PLEA deal when he broke the terms of it? What happened to it being said they were likely to take it up at today's hearing and the concurrent thing was a deal due to their agreement which Alex voided? Did a judge go ahead and not put the deal aside as the prosecutors asked him to? Is the sentence "for now" but will be voided later and the matter taken up? Why even go ahead with sentencing when the deal is likely off the table...?
