Search party for missing Buffalo State student Saniyya Dennis says they’re leaving no stone unturned

People in Western New York are not giving up their search for Saniyya Dennis, the college student who went missing last week.

Saniyya was last seen leaving her dorm on Buffalo State’s campus on April 24, but her cell phone was later pinged near Goat Island in Niagara Falls. That’s where a search party gathered early Wednesday evening in the latest hopes to find the young woman.

Julia Stevens has been searching for Saniyya, “It’s important to show up as a community and show this family that we care, that we will continue to be out here and we won’t stop until we find Saniyya Dennis."

For nearly two weeks, search parties have combed through Niagara Falls in the hopes of finding Saniyya Dennis.

They’ve been placing flyers on any available surface and calling for the public’s help.

University police are continuing to ask anyone with information to come forward, and Saniyya’s family has since offered a $10,000 reward for anything that could help bring her home.

Julia Stevens went on to say, “If Saniyya is out there and she’s watching these efforts, if she’s in danger or incapacitated we would say don’t give up hope, we are leaving no stone unturned. We will be out here every single day for you until we find you because you deserve that.”

It was pointing in that direction once the Niagara Falls ping but I was hopeful though after seeing the Younkers reference. It appears they have enough information and tracking, etc. to come to this conclusion. Sad outcome, sorry for her family, not the ending anyone wanted. :(

Missing Bronx teen: Family of Buffalo college student refutes suicide claim by DA

The family of Buffalo State College student Saniyya Dennis, who disappeared from campus two weeks ago, released a scathing statement Friday night refuting the local district attorney’s assertion that the Bronx teen died by suicide.

The district attorney said Dennis had multiple conversations about suicide the day she disappeared and was captured by park cameras inside Niagra Falls State Park that night.

Around 1 a.m., the teen took a Snapchat selfie near the Nikola Tesla monument with Niagara Falls in the background, according to Flynn.

About 20 minutes later, she texted a male friend, telling him that she spoke with her mom and was on her way back to Buffalo. However, cellphone records showed that to not be true.

Minutes after that text, her cellphone left the cellular network, meaning it was either powered off or destroyed, according to officials.

The district attorney and officials indicated they believe Dennis never left Niagra Falls State Park.

However, Dennis’ family said on Friday they do not agree with Flynn’s narrative that she died by suicide and accused the district attorney of sharing details of her case without conferring with them first.

The statement challenged or refuted more than a dozen assertions laid out by Flynn during his news conference.

Hmm. While I don't like cases where I don't feel there is enough info or where things seem not to add up to the conclusion they come to with all questions answered, I don't find this one that questionable IF they have all the info it was said they have in the one hour press conference.

While this family has suffered a major tragedy/loss, and so I don't want to come down on them, I disagree with some of what they are doing here unless there are facts we are unaware of.

I disagree that a school should be responsible for an adult student who does not return to the dorm on a Saturday night for one. I fail to see a reason to involve the civil liberties union. With the facts provided, I see no other likely scenario and there are two people who she expressed suicidal thoughts to more than once that day. She did have a break up with a boyfriend. She allegedly was alone, left the dorm on her own and was seen on camera on buses to Niagara also alone (I don't think it would hurt to share the footage and other documentation so people know it to be fact as stated). I don't see much chance there could be some "conspiracy" against a college student to come to the wrong conclusion here. She left of her own free will it seems to be clear, she traveled alone and of her own free will it seems to be clear, she went to and chose to go to Niagara Falls of her own free will late at night, there is footage and there are bus card swipes, she expressed suicidal thoughts that day to more than one person, pings confirm whereabouts that fit with her solo travel and video camera footage. I don't think all of this and more was manufactured.

I see little chance of foul play here at all. The only other possible scenario I see is if she herself staged this to look as it does and that's unlikely based on footage, lack of bank activity, etc. There were several agencies and locations involved and I don't see it as logical that they were in "cahoots". There were three dogs that followed her scent. They confirmed the bf was in NYC. I assume they did the same with the male friend (if not, they should just so there is no question there) who seemed to have spent hours with her on the phone and playing video games with her to be sure she was not going to do such a thing. She also talked to her mother that day as well re the break up etc. or so it sounds. She threw things away that they said one would not throw away if your plan was to return. The list goes on...

Sadly, the family may not realize or accept the outcome until (if) her body is recovered.

I agree and I think no evidence of her body probably has a lot to do with it. I do understand they are hurt and in disbelief, and I get directing the grief and anger somewhere as well.

Family of missing teen Saniyya Dennis remains vigilant in search

Saniyya Dennis’ family cleared out her dorm room at Buffalo State College and remain determined to find her. Dennis has been missing since April 24 when she left the college to go to Niagara Falls. A district attorney ruled Dennis committed suicide––however, mounting evidence the family has says otherwise.

Last week, the AmNews received mounds of evidence the family has disputing the district attorney’s findings including text messages, social media posts and screenshots. The family has not been able to obtain sufficient surveillance video of Dennis’ whereabouts. Her family believes she is alive and foul play is involved.

In an interview with the AmNews, Myles Carter, a community leader who is working with Dennis’ family, said they are pushing forward and won’t stop until Dennis is found.

“There has been a continued effort to find Saniyya since the DA made his statement regarding her taking her own life,” Carter said. “There’s a daily search at the gorge at Artpark State Park in Lewiston where bodies would surface and that’s been going on since May 30.”

I am the first one to question cases and not always believe an outcome or conclusion if I don't see all things make sense or questions answered and if the family is right and has ample reason to believe this, I wish them all the luck in the world in getting to the bottom of it.

I don't see it here though in listening to everything LE says they have and so long as they have those things, I agree with LE's conclusion. I wouldn't think LE would be dumb enough to say they have evidence that they don't have and say it on national TV. If so, they deserve to be brought down and brought down hard but I think it very unlikely. Also, the family should definitely be shown all of this evidence proclaimed at the PC if they have not been so there is no reason to suspect it does not exist.

Ilistened closely to things to be convinced (as I was not) like did she only use her bus pass (meaning anyone could have used it) or was she also seen on camera to ensure it was her (she was). They seem to have a ton of info, not just a little of where she was and where she was not and more. They also indicate she threw things away near the campus that would indicate she had no intent of returning. LE would not say what the times were and I suspect out of privacy for her/her family but did state they were things to indicate she was not going to return.

All that said, I understand the family's grief and anger directed where they can direct it, but I don't even see a reason why things would be lied about here by LE or anyone. Also, while the family may not feel that way, there was a lot of effort put into this case and more than we see in many. That's not to say there shouldn't always be more, it shouldn't be quicker and with less red tape and be that way in all cases but we know it's not how it goes.

She was an adult and walked out of her dorm of her own accord. I am really sorry to say this and for the family but it also does not make the school responsible, they are not her babysitter. Those facts also make it in many cases where police will not even necessarily react right away and they can't just access an adult's bank records and more right off the bat.

Family of Saniyya Dennis believes she's still out there

The leaves have now turned on Goat Island in Niagara Falls, and two seasons have passed more than six months after a Buffalo State College student went missing at the end of April.

“Happy Birthday Saniyya, we love Saniyya, we miss Saniyya and we know she’s still out there,” her aunt said.

Her family, from the Bronx gathered to celebrate Saniyya Dennis’ 20th birthday Monday.

“As her mother, I would like to have a better understanding of what happened,” said Latisha Dennis, Saniyya’s mother.

Her family says since no body has been discovered, Saniyya is still a missing person.

“I know she’s out there somewhere. I want to wish her a Happy 20th Birthday,” said her mom.
