AMBER Alert issued for missing 5-year-old out of Hawkins Co.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued a statewide AMBER Alert for a missing 5-year-old girl from Rogersville in Hawkins County Wednesday morning.

Officials with the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to WVLT News that Summer Moon-Utah Wells went missing Tuesday night. Sheriff’s Office officials are asking for the public’s help locating the child.

Summer Wells has blonde hair and was last seen wearing grey shorts and a pink shirt on Ben Hill road, officials said. She has been missing since 7 p.m. Tuesday.

TBI officials said Summer Wells may now have shorter hair than that pictured in earlier alerts.

‘Very real possibility that she wandered off…” | TBI continues to investigate disappearance of Summer Wells

The investigation into what happened to missing Hawkins County 5-year-old Summer Wells remains active and ongoing, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Wednesday.

“Investigators have executed numerous search warrants, collecting all potential evidence,” Earhart said. “We’ve spoken with anyone and everyone associated with the Wells family, in some cases more than once.”

Earhart said people interviewed by the TBI include neighbors, family acquaintances and people who were working in the area of Ben Hill Road on June 15.

According to Earhart, the TBI is continuing to work alongside the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office and Federal Bureau of Investigation as they utilize resources to keep searching.

“We’ve used a plane, helicopters, divers, canines and every resource available to us during search efforts,” Earhart said. “Despite the countless hours of tireless work, the circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain unclear.”

The TBI reported Wednesday that there is no evidence to suggest that Summer was abducted, but investigators continue to explore all possibilities.

“At this time, there is no evidence that she was abducted; however, all avenues continue to be explored including foul play and the very real possibility that she wandered off and became lost in the mountainous and rough terrain surrounding her home,” Earhart said.

Summer Wells' mom reports trespassers attempting to make video at their home

Candus Wells, mother of missing 5-year-old Hawkins County five-year-old Summer wells, reported to the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Thursday that six trespassers were on their property attempting to make videos.

Candus told HCSO Sgt. Sam Wilhoit that around 1:20 p.m. Thursday a person she identified as Molly Golightly and a man named Andrew Griffin (both Facebook names) were among six people who came onto her property on Ben Hill Road in the Beech Creek community making videos of her residence.

She further stated that was two days in a row there had been trespassers at her residence.

Candus was advised by the HCSO to seek a private prosecution warrant from the clerk of court’s office.

Clerk of Courts Randy Collier old the Review Monday evening he isn't aware of a private prosecution warrant being filed by the Wells Family as of the end of business hours Monday.
I am unsure if I believe the parent(s) is/are uninvolved in the disappearance BUT if Molly and her sidekick were truly trespassing then they deserve to be brought in, a complaint filed, etc., etc.

I don't know if it is fact other than reading this post and article but if they were on their private property then that is disgusting. Imo both big shots and big names and littler people like Molly have MILKED this case not because they care about Summer more than their headlines and clickbait but for the views and that includes nationally known people/television, groups, retired professionals, searchers, churches...

If LE says they haven’t identified the driver of that particular red truck, then I find that bothersome, to say the least.
I’m left to wonder whether they have but don’t know it.
Absolutely. There is still an unidentified vehicle in the Michael Vaughan case too. Particularly in Michael's case, that doesn't sit well with me.
These vehicles may or may not be connected. But they need to know.

Indeed.
I’m not as knowledgeable as I’d like to be with info surrounding the Vaughan case, but as I recall, it happened in the Jessica Heeringa case where LE actually had located the vehicle/driver/perp, but didn’t know it because (basically) they simply hadn’t taken a close enough look.

Investigators have no updates on Summer Wells disappearance over 6 months later

For more than six months, the case of missing 5-year-old Summer Wells has captivated people across the country and even the world. It started with an endangered child alert issued by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on June 15, and the next day, progressed to an AMBER alert that remains active today.

As a few community members gathered Tuesday afternoon at Borden Park in Kingsport to pray for the safe return of the missing Hawkins County girl, her parents have had the same prayers since she disappeared.

Tuesday morning, News Channel 11 reached out to the TBI for an update in the investigation and was told there are no updates but that the investigation is active and ongoing.

“It’s an active and ongoing investigation. We’re not going to stop until we determine what happened to her. And we’re just taking it one day at a time,” TBI spokesperson Leslie Earhart said at a press conference in June.

I have no idea what happened in this case but I'd sure like one independent account that she was at home and went downstairs and disappeared from there at the time said. I'd like a verification of the day and time frame. We know what they say but LE has confirmed nothing. Typical and understandable I guess but nothing, not one thing.

I don't doubt she went missing from their property on her own or was moved or taken by someone more likely than not but the specifics I am not so sure of. Time, length of time unaccounted for, place (basement), door, etc.

To my knowledge, there is no one but family members to confirm any of it. We don't know what the boys said, dad wasn't home it is said and so we have mom and grandma and grandma was not in the house. IF she went in the house.

That's not an accusation--sometimes you unfortunately can't prove what you are saying but they are the only ones who were there but because there is no verification, nothing can be ruled out. I sure hope LE knows far more or this case will never be solved. I have no hope this child is alive.

Don Wells speaks on protesters impeding his work, disrupting homelife

“Don Wells, I know you’re outside. I know you heard me.”

The words echoed across Ben Hill Road over the weekend as Don Wells stepped onto his front porch to record the sounds of several protesters hundreds of yards away from his home.

He filmed the same group of people calling out to him and his wife, Candus Bly Wells, yelling profanities and making accusations that the parents had something to do with the disappearance of their 5-year-old daughter, Summer Wells.

The group went to the Wells’ workplace in the Edinburgh community of Kingsport Monday, heckling the couple for answers they believe only the parents have.

“It’s scary, scary for sure. I mean, Candus was in tears and she was shaking and all that. She was scared,” Don Wells said.

He said the group of protesters had been to his house six times before tracking down one of the job sites where he installs drywalling for a living.

“They come in and started banging on the garage door and all the windows and everything and so I called my employer first and then we called the police and they come out. So they had to step off the property but they was out there making a big scene and everything so my employer, for the builder’s sake, for me to pull off the job so I had to pull off the job,” he said.

The group yelled in videos recorded by Wells that they just want to help find Summer.

“Let the police do their job. I mean, you know, I feel that they’re just making a mockery out of everything for their YouTube channel and personal gain,” Wells said.

When asked if he was afraid for his life, Wells said he was fortunate to be surrounded by good people.

“There at first it was very scary, but people, I don’t know, it could be bad. It could be dangerous, it has been. But we just want to get back to normal and work on ourselves and just try to do right as much as possible,” he said.

In videos taken by Wells at the construction site, protesters are seen asking him for an interview. Wells said he does not want them to twist his words, so he tries to stay away from them.

But to him, Wells said, it’s not about what’s online. It’s about finding his missing girl.

“I can call TBI at any time and talk to them. But I’m sure if they had anything they would call me right away. I mean, they assure me when I call them that they’re still working on the case. They’re doing everything they can. They’re still checking into things and I even hear from people time to time where TBI just contacted them because their cell phone happened to ping in the area. So I know that they’re still working, and they’re still looking into things,” he said.

This is being talked about on YT and even people who think the parents may be guilty are not impressed with this behavior and find it disgusting. I assume this is the same "group" or woman who also put a picture of a minor child online that she took at the church there.

I find it disgusting. It's like the woman in the Laundrie case. They aren't doing this for the victim. Not imo.

Thats an interesting comment regarding cell phones pinging in the area.

To me, that’s not protesting, that’s vigilantism, and (dependent upon the state statute) sounds like there might be enough evidence and instances to charge particular individuals with stalking.

that is definitely what it is and it solves nothing, except making an azz out of oneself and possibly could be charged. It's definitely trespassing if they have been warned or it's posted and I would not hesitate to charge them with it.

I agree. I also think at minimum they would win a civil harassment restraining order. I suspect since people judge everything they do though they are hesitant to do that as everything they say or do gets twisted and again some will make them out to be the bad guys (the Wells). The cops could take it into their own hands and charge them if enough cause but maybe for similar reasons they don't want to make it into a bigger deal... I think something needs to be done as this has happened now in more than just this case and some lines need to be drawn and laws enforced.

Police report accuses woman of filming inside church Wells family attends

Kingsport Police are investigating after video recorded of a child inside a church the family of Summer Wells attends was posted on YouTube. According to a report, officers were told Sunday that a woman posted footage of a child at the church to YouTube. That video has been taken down, police said.

The police report filed by an unnamed person says the recording incident occurred Saturday, Jan. 8 in Kingsport. When asked, father Don Wells confirmed an incident had occurred at the Kingsport Seventh-Day Adventist Church but did not provide further comment.

Several parts of the report are redacted because it contains information about an underage child. The unnamed complainant says in the report that the woman accused of making the video made accusations of kidnapping during the recording. It is not known who was being accused.

Editorial: Hysterics won't help find Summer Wells

It’s been seven months since 5-year-old Summer Wells disappeared from her home in rural Hawkins County. Understandably, nerves are frayed over fear she may never be found and the case never solved.

That does not excuse those harassing Summer’s father by showing up at his place of employment and slandering both parents on a public street.

If there is anything to protest about this case, it would be that it remains unsolved. But three people with signs making a lot of noise near the Department of Children’s Services in Rogersville Jan. 11 seemed to agree that police are doing all they can. “Law enforcement is amazing,” said one. “We work with law enforcement.”

They weren’t protesting anything. Rather, much of what they said was to defame Summer’s parents with comments we will not repeat. The accusations were based on no facts known at this time, thus of absolutely no use nor purpose.

As Summer’s father, Don Wells, said of their behavior, “Let the police do their job. I feel that they’re (the protesters) just making a mockery out of everything for their YouTube channel and personal gain.”

Following the activity at the DCS office, the TBI announced that the agency has seen a rise in the online spread of misinformation regarding the search for Summer.

The TBI reported that the agency “is doing everything within its power” to find Summer, adding that the lack of answers and developments in the case is frustrating to all investigators who continue the search.

Hysterics won’t help find Summer Wells. Tips and evidence will. And unless you have either of those, best to keep quiet and let the professionals do their work.

Good so there is a police report! Will there be charges? I hope so. This is NOT okay.

From the above editorial: “We work with law enforcement.”

Does LE agree with this or like it being made to sound as if they are "united"?

Sounds like a classy bunch (not) hurling profanities and insults. Some people have no class at all. Talk about low lifes.
