Madera 2-year-old missing, Police Chief: 'We're not ruling anything out'

The Madera Police Department held a news conference Wednesday afternoon where Police Chief Dino Lawson said he has reached out to the FBI who is assisting with the investigation into the disappearance of 2-year-old Thaddeus Sran.

When asked why there has been no Amber Alert issued, Chief Lawson said, "We're not there yet."

The chief also said the Madera County Sheriff's Department is also assisting with the investigation.

"Everything is on the table. We're looking at everything. We're not ruling anything out," said Chief Lawson.

Police say the 2-year-old child went missing overnight from his home on “C” Street sometime between 10:00 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Thaddeus was born premature and has a feeding tube and is non-verbal.

Thaddeus did recently learn to walk and it's unknown if he was able to walk away or if he was taken.

Police say Thaddeus needs special care and needs to be reunited with his family as soon as possible.

He was last seen wearing a red shirt and Spiderman pants with a diaper underneath. He is approximately two feet tall and weighs 30 pounds.

Police are looking into the possibility that Thaddeus was abducted.

Madera County Sheriff’s Office, US Marshall’s, Federal Bureau of Investigations, and Madera County Probation are assisting with a search and investigation.

Madera Police conclude search for missing child, while community efforts ramp up

After three days into the search for two-year-old Thaddeus Sran, law enforcement have concluded their intensive search Friday.

Meanwhile, a group of women in the community have banded together to try to find the missing boy.

In a press release, Madera Police Chief Dino Lawson said investigators remain committed to finding Sran. Also, they are still working on several leads.

Aside from search efforts, an FBI team was stationed at Sran’s home for most of the day.

Madera Police Cmdr. Gino Chiaramonte sais police applauds any community-led search effort, adding police will provide anyone with fliers if they want.




Madera resident Lydia Hernandez, a mother herself, said she and several of her friends have been concerned since the news of Sran broke Wednesday.

“We want him home safe and in one piece, so all of us as mothers can feel calm,” Hernandez said. “All of us have a broken heart over this.”

So, after hearing he still wasn’t found Thursday, she and other mothers in the city decided to start looking themselves. The group printed out hundreds of fliers and posted them around Friday.

They also organized several search parties through the day, including one starting at Sierra Vista Elementary, which is near Sran’s home.

That said, Hernandez, Castaneda, and the other women who gathered time search for Sran say they refuse to stop until he’s found.

“This community is trying to raise awareness, at the same time, we’re trying to be together and as solid as we posibly can,” said Victoria Gonzalez.

I see in a remark on the PD site that the recent most posting from the PD now says 12 to 8:30 he went missing, not 10 p.m. to 8:30 as was first said... I wonder what changed that. I also read a few disturbing comments that maybe others were aware of, I wasn't in that this is not the first child deceased in that family... My hope has not been strong in this case from the beginning and it is about non-existent now...

Can't sleep yet so just doing a bit of digging. On this case, the last PD announcement showed a few things that changed somewhat. First, the time frame now is midnight, not 10 p.m. Second, he is now wearing a red shirt and spiderman sweats, no mention of diaper and third, there is a specific address instead of just the 800 block of C Street. Maybe others have done this on other sites I don't know I don't do much of that but I do check the PD site...

So since we have a storm brewing and I am not that sleepy yet, I googled the address and came up with a few results. I checked more than one and 818 C Street seems to be a 3 bedroom 2 bath home but the address was 818 1/2... On further look, there are allegedly two homes on the property... One is the 3 bedroom 2 bath and the other was put down as something that could be used as a separate rental or mother-in-law suite with not much detail so I am assuming it is small. Now I don't know which is which but I would think the 1/2 address would probably be the smaller one? Hard to say... The entire property looked like it had been for sale for at least a year, price dropped no sale, etc... In January of 2020 it looks like it was taken off but not by "sold" just unlisted. The only pic or two on here the property does look fenced...

I don't know... Did they rent this place and was it the home or the smaller place? Not saying anything and I don't even think it means anything necessarily just gives a bit of a picture... If the front is anything to go by, I do not see this child getting out...

The little changes in details on the PD site are probably due to narrowing down some info and getting it specific and right... It does say he went missing from 818 1/2 C Street South now...

Anyhow here is the "listing" and there are more. Perhaps a better digger or mapper can find us better info or views... It isn't my thing but I did try a bit with this info... And checked several sites...

Looking again and it looks like the back is completely fenced too. No two year old with issues got over these fences imo. I also see he was just two in May of 2018. So pretty freshly two years old...Even with a gate or something open at his age and at night? Just having moved there?

Oh, just noticed in PD post it says child last seen in HIS room between 12 and 8:30... That is some strange wording too.... So he had a room of his own or so it sounds nyhow... Or at least not his parents' room... So I can see waking up and/or being woke up by a child and not checking the time but I sure would know the difference in midnight and 8:30 a.m. daylight. Maybe just a poor choice of wording there...

Sorry, this case is irritating me is all. I see no hope that this child is alive. He sure is not feeding himself and taking care of himself in the out of doors in Cali heat... He is TWO. BARELY JUST TWO.

Off to watch a podcast... THUNDER IS LOUD NOW. Cracking and booming!

Am I just having a clueless moment. Not sure what they are getting at here. I take it they mean Wednesday the 15th of this week. So early on at some point there was a broken or open window. I suppose they mean this lent to abduction or an abduction set-up. I don't buy a broken window as the parents should have heard that or someone in the home right? So a pushed out screen? A raised window If that was the case, why would you have to board it up. You generally board up "broken".

I guess in fairness it could be boarded so an intruder could not enter again or raise a window...

Pretty sure this does face the back too because the listing photos showed more metal fencing in front, etc. And a solid wooden fence like this in back.

Trying really hard not to go there but to stay vague, and pray for the family, no stranger went to this trouble imo to take a child they did not know or did know, from what new room they must have known he was in, etc. and when?? Wow, that just works out too well for the person...

We know so little but with the little we know, this STINKS to high heaven. Hopefully it was only one of someone he knew and the rest loved this little boy.

I rarely say an absolute or think in that way but imo this child is not alive and there is no hope that he is. Unless there is some strange story like one recently where the family is hiding him from CPS or some such... No hint of that whatsoever that I know of...

After days of frequent updates even if not much info, the PD website now remains at a standstill with no new updates. All weekend and thus far today... The only activity is people remarking who are frustrated about it and with the PD, etc.

Not sure what to think but I guess King's went entirely silent and now we have an arrest in that one...

Thaddeus could just climbed out the window, or someone could have grabbed him. Both seems very likely, since there is a hole in the fence and that the window is boarded up. Someone could also come in the front door and escape through the window. If Thaddeus got out himself, he might not even be alive. Also, since he has special needs, his parents might not be able to afford or have time for such a child, possibly being involved in the disappearance. I can't find a video where a parent was interviewed, but I did see one earlier. The parent acted as if it was normal to have their kid go missing. That is very strange. Either they know Thaddeus is safe, or they want to get rid of him and they succeeded.

I would say you covered pretty much all of the possibilities. I personally do not see someone planning and coming in and taking him (I mean why and how do they know he is there and where?) and I don't see him getting out a window or getting far without notice by someone, even a neighbor or stranger. It is possible though. If there was a parent interviewed, I never saw it but would like to. The case sure is quiet the last few days.

I haven’t seen the parents at all or even heard a statement from them. Do you happen to have a link to that or remember where you saw it?

I just can’t see a child with limited mobility climbing out the window and making it very far, but it is possible. I know they also had a previous young child die, which is always concerning.
