Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

Yep. When I think nothing can any longer shock me, etc., I still can be shocked. This one struck me.

Just keeping up on such things also. It does not seem like all that long ago that I did not even know what Narcan was and had to look it up although it has probably been longer ago than I think. The same with Fentanyl, I know that was a few years ago I started hearing of it more.
 
I will resist from posting Olivia Munn sheds tears... It is over the Atlanta tragedy but give me a break, the headline is about her and not the victims... Not necessarily a fan of People, I skip a lot of even their crime headlines if it is just Hollywood BS and don't share them, but it is just the current place I go for crime headlines. A week or so ago it was 9 out of 10 about Lady Gaga... Don't get me wrong, I know the dog walker was shot but it was far from the only crime, there were worse things by far and he survived and still, every crime headline on there almost was related to that in tons... They never do the same with other cases...

Don't get me wrong. But what will not be a hate crime then because someone has an addiction. Someone has an eating disorder and they kill every worker at Domino's?.

True but they have made hate crime a thing and targeting a certain kind of group I guess applies to it. While I don't agree with everything and feel some laws are not fairly applied to all, on the other hand I feel so many sentences are getting way too light and criminals getting out too soon or too many times that a law that makes something more serious I guess is not entirely a bad thing.

This disgusts me. There is more info out there too. The pics/images are described in the court documents and are disturbing and are of young toddlers and boys. He was let out on a signature bond! He WAS allowed unsupervised contact with his own adopted children despite CPS being involved! The guy used his same email for his court mail as he did to get these images, doesn't seem like the brightest bulb then does he?
