Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

It's not hard to believe based on where and how she was found that she had issues. I don't know that I buy the entire story she gave about how she got there or how long she was down there. Doesn't sound like they think it was for 3 weeks either. Probably will never know.

yep. I do believe that she was gone for 3 weeks, but don't think she was lost down there that long. Days, most likely.

How did I never hear of this one? On a lighter note, do they rich really call that a plate of food (in the pic)?

Hmm. A can of worms and issues clearly. I guess it is Alabama itself that gives 16 and up the right to consent. That's their own problem and issue. Then of course in most states there are laws regarding authority figures and minors. That's another variable. I suppose in Alabama if a 17 year old consented to marry a 50 year old (nonteacher) it would technically be okay... And yet I don't doubt some would argue that a 50 year old to a 17 year old is kind of a father figure/authority figure. My confusing point I guess is laws can be made but they still kind of don't cover all situations...

Regardless, my opinion is she was in the WRONG.

If everything in this article is true then WTH?? Letting someone go for going 60 in a 55 is one thing... Letting someone go twice the legal drinking limit (allegedly unnoticed) going it does not say how fast or mph at the first stop (is that not interesting???) found with marijuana is another thing! I am not judging pot, I am simply saying there were factors here and if it is illegal there then it is along with speeding and intoxication plenty of reason to not let him go with a warning. Both substances if under the influence and speed also matter when driving, etc.

Then he 30 minutes later causes this multi vehicle crash with deaths?? Yeah, I would say there is much to be looked into re the former stop and cop... 115 miles an hour, twice the legal limit 30 minutes later...
