Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

Hmm. A can of worms and issues clearly. I guess it is Alabama itself that gives 16 and up the right to consent. That's their own problem and issue. Then of course in most states there are laws regarding authority figures and minors. That's another variable. I suppose in Alabama if a 17 year old consented to marry a 50 year old (nonteacher) it would technically be okay... And yet I don't doubt some would argue that a 50 year old to a 17 year old is kind of a father figure/authority figure. My confusing point I guess is laws can be made but they still kind of don't cover all situations...

Regardless, my opinion is she was in the WRONG.

our neighborhood sex offender is one of those. An adult female educator involved with a legally consent able teen boy BUT she was an authority figure and IMO rightly charged. I guess if you have to have a sex offender in your neighborhood, this is the best kind you can have? She rightfully lost her teaching license but in her particular case, i am not sure if she necessarily deserves to be on the registry for life since his involvement was voluntary and he was of legal age to consent but she definitely deserves to not be able to be trusted around kids any more for her bad decision making.

LOL. :lol: I also think us more "poor" Americans are too into supersized meals and too much to eat at times for portions--but this minimalist thing on a plate with all that empty space around it for a premium price cracks me up on the other side of the coin. $50 may be a low conservative, I am constantly shocked these days with hearing such. (Look at menus at top of the mill places in various states and areas, I am in constant shock). But I guess it impresses. In some cases enough that you end up with a wife after your money who would rather have the very base sexual sexy sex offender in life... But still wants the finer things?? I am befuddled today I guess. When her bf was in prison, did he have to know what fork to use to dine? :thud:

I guess it is where laws are not always fair nor address everything. I definitely think she should never again be a teacher or someone with perceived "authority" over younger people. If he was truly willing should she be on a registry for life? Not sure I agree with that. We all know when we are older we did not see things the same as we did as an of age teen for instance (most of us) and would not make the same choices. However, does she deserve to pay full price for an age consent teen who thought he knew what he wanted at that time? I can't compare someone like that to a total flat out pedophile or where it is a far younger child.

I have people in my extended family, couples, who are like 20 years apart in age. No sex offenders and no one was a minor even under 18, no one in an authority job position and the ones who have or had that age gap have been long time and long term married to each other.

I guess if the teen was of a consent age and said he consented, then I can't look at it as bad necessarily. I think to me the thing is the job position where clearly I believe or hope they are taught they are not to go there.

Wow. I was right on the mark that it was probably drugs and or mental illness. That's the only thing that makes sense why someone would do that.

I don't know. There was the recent food delivery one where a 14 year old and a friend carjacked a car with a baby in it, the delivery called for was planned to get the car or so it sounded, now here we have a 13 and 15 year old car jacking a food delivery driver--just for two recent examples... Can't tell ya of any like that off the top of my head I heard of until recent times by kids that age...

There is talk off and on that there are some type of teen challenges that go on online that most adults and parents are unaware of... And I mean crimes... I forget which kind of thing a few months back some were saying was a part of a recent challenge or so they thought... I know it was another one where something went wrong in one of the cases...

Likewise, I have heard of gangs doing the same, requiring a certain crime OR these girls in this case may just have gotten the idea from the 14 year old who ended up with a baby in the car (copycat) although I think that is the most unlikely...

it's nothing new. it was happening when I was in school.
 
I don't even know any longer. I have so many questions that a simple article is not going to answer. I don't have a comment on any side of anything except to say nowadays you better hope you have something so proven and clear cut and not just well, there were many things that could not be seen in the video unfortunately and on the other side of the coin, well there was a warrant to begin with. Who knows :(

Really? I can think of males with females in like high school. And there certainly were teachers, even female, that were weird and abusive to some young children. Or those that picked on what they felt vulnerable children. But females seriously that want some adolescent boy? Seriously? What female worth her salt needs to go there? They can't get some sexually charged 20 something year old guy? Not shocked easily but this stuff does... It's one thing for a "cougar" with a younger man but this is a female authority figure sexually with a boy.
 
Not to say that some teen boys don't have some hot teacher fantasies that is not looked at as that odd but this does not sound like that at all.

Just in my senior year I was aware of one female teacher with male student. One female coach with female student and one male teacher with female student.
