ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

And give them access to all weapons available conveniently right there. No problem with having to go anywhere. Time to choose.
Our laws, sentences, etc. have gotten ridiculous in some cases and many areas. Yet at times they will keep someone in jail over traffic violations... Nothing seems to make any sense these days...

Wow that's a lot! I have been watching a squirrel off and on for weeks running with nuts and stashing them. I keep a door open on nice days and every so often he comes close to entering and I have to chase him away. He ain't storing 'em inside the garage/house or creating a hiding place or new home if I have anything to say about it!!

‘I am Brittany Renee Williams’: Woman says she has DNA to prove she is missing cold case Henrico girl, after 21 years

A woman in Indiana has come forward, saying she has DNA evidence proving she is Brittany Renee Williams, a 7-year-old child who went missing from Henrico, Virginia, in 2000.

There are still many questions surrounding this case. Stevenson and McElroy, and no doubt many others, will be awaiting the DNA results from Henrico Police, and any impact they could have on Kaylynn or Brittany’s life.

“This case is active, and we are working with our federal partners,” said Lt. Pecka, a spokesperson for Henrico Police.

Wow, that's interesting. I wonder how she went missing and who had her and if it was a family abduction or something else.

Very sad story. See her Charley Project page below. Seems like her mother died of AIDS when she was very young, and she was in the care of another woman who ran a "Rainbow Kids" charity for kids with AIDS and other medical problems. It seems she was mostly using the kids for money. Publicly, Brittany was said to have also had AIDS and very ill. However, if this is really her (seems like it probably is), she never actually had HIV/AIDS. Her caretaker was trying to give her away and it seems like eventually gave her up in an illegal adoption.

***Important to note that LE has not publicly confirmed if this is actually Brittany.

Using kids for money I think is something that needs to be realized seems to be far more common than many think. That's sad. I mean everyone knows or thinks some have lots of kids for the benefits but that's actual parents. Fostering, adoption, this charity you mention here, private nonprofits and other things are a big red flag to me these days. Not saying all are bad by any means but I think it is a lot more common than many think, it is about the $$$ and not the kids.

Apparently she did not have AIDS. I haven't read the Charley page but will next. I hope at least this illegal adoption was to decent parents? Seems unlikely if it was illegal or she was thought to have AIDS.

Also noting here that I realize it is not confirmed yet this is her, so speculation at this point although it does seem likely.

OMG I just read the Charley page. What a horror story and how many failures. And that is all that woman was sentenced to after all of that??

If this adult woman is Brittany, I am amazed and wonder who had her, I fully would read that story not knowing and expect the child was dead. I'd like to follow this one as it develops.

A person with a weapon opened fire on the 2nd floor of Timberview High School, in the 7000 block of South Watson Road in Arlington around 9:15 a.m. The school is in the Mansfield Independent School District.

Kolbye confirmed that there are 4 victims from the incident. Three people were transported to a local hospital. One injured person refused treatment at the scene.

As of 1:00 p.m. all of those hospitalized victims were being treated at Medical City Arlington. Reporting from the scene, CBS 11 News reporter Steve Pickett learned that a 15-year-old victim is in critical condition, a 25-year-old male employee at school is in good condition, and a slightly injured female teen is being treated and will soon be released.

During a morning press conference Kolbye said he wasn’t sure if Timberview has metal detectors.

Are there any other religions with enormous amounts of child sexual abuse other than this one?

The pope conceded that the church had failed to put the needs of victims first in what was considered to be one of his strongest condemnations of child sexual abuse in the Catholic church to date.

“There is, unfortunately, a considerable number,” he said during his weekly audience at the Vatican on Wednesday. “I would like to express to the victims my sadness and pain for the trauma that they suffered. It is also my shame, our shame, for the incapacity of the church for too long to put them at the centre of its concerns.”

Francis urged all bishops to take action to ensure “similar dramas are not repeated” while calling on Catholics in France to work towards ensuring that the church is “a safe place for all”.

Nothing on this scale imo. This even though known still gets nowhere near the focus and notice it should. It went on so long, was so deep, went so high up and was so covered up that it is almost unbelievable so many people in such a huge "system" could let it or how it could be so huge and deep and go on for so long with such numbers of victims. I certainly am not knocking all Catholics but the good ones I know are not proud of this...
