ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

A sheriff's office in Alabama issued an alert Friday night after an inmate and the assistant director of corrections went missing earlier in the day. Authorities said the inmate, who was being held on capital murder charges, should be considered "armed and extremely dangerous."

Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton told reporters Friday night that Vicki White, a 25-year veteran at the department, left the local detention center with Casey Cole White at 9:41 a.m. He said she told other officials she was going to drop him off at the courthouse for a mental health evaluation and then was going to seek medical attention because she wasn't feeling well. Despite having the same last name, the two are not related.

Shortly after 11 a.m., someone found her patrol vehicle in a parking lot of a shopping center. At 3:30 p.m., officials became aware that no one had been able to contact her, and that the inmate had not been returned to custody.
Seriously? They let ONE office transport an inmate held on capital murder charges who they now consider armed and extremely dangerous transport such a man? She was going to "drop him off"? And after that going to the dr. herself as she wasn't feeling well? This sounds like an average relaxed day in the life of anyone!! Ok, let's see I'm going to drop my mom off at Walmart so she can grab groceries, run to my hair appt. and then run back and pick her up... Say WHAT?? This is a murder suspect and a county detention center!!

I am with you on that one! What a world it seems we live in some days with bad headline like this after bad headlines. I am still reeling from the 14 year old killing the 10 year old in WI.

At first I thought or tried to that well they are probably new parents, young, naive as I read through it but then I see she was required to keep a feeding log because of an incident with another child! And then of course there are TWO parents here!! Both forget/forgot???
absolutely no excuse for this! Why wasn't somebody monitoring this, especially with the previous history?

I would hope they were but clearly not often enough. In fact, I'm not sure until this infant was a certain age they shouldn't have had to be with another adult present at all times or the baby with one at least. I almost just skimmed, I don't have time to read all links on all news lately, but did on this one, and on realizing there was a HISTORY here, that changes everything!! I wouldn't be okay with it with no history but given a prior history of doing the VERY SAME THING it sounds like there is no excuse for not monitoring and THERE IS CERTAINLY NO defense for the parents then either. They knew this. I can't decide if they look wrung out from tears over arrest or like strung out from drugs or something but their mug shots sure are something else that makes you wonder...

They sure don't appear to be malnourished themselves. Why couldn't they simply think that if they were eating, their kids probably need to be eating, too? Isn't that pretty simple? i could understand it a bit more if they didn't look like they ate regularly.

Very much so, I am thinking it isn't the entire story. Babies do cry when wet and hungry, hurting and sick and I"m not saying they always do but I would say an educated guess is they did ignore crying or sleep through crying as well. I don't know if he was the father in whatever other case or they were together but SHE at least knew from a former issue NOT to do this.

Like you say, they seemed to know to feed themselves and apparently they can remember to take time to do the deed that makes a baby.

Sad case but I don't see much of a defense here based on this preliminary info, as to why this baby wasn't fed!

I cant.... I literally just cant....

Yes this one takes the cake for this week's news right up there with the 14 year old who raped and killed the 10 year old and had the plan and intent to do so. Hard enough to wrap one's mind around "typical" murders if there is such a thing but these two this week are just beyond belief...!

Her YT videos are generally short. Here is another disgusting case so let's end the week with a bunch of them that really hit hard in that what was this guy doing on the streets??!!!! And where was this little toddler's protection?? DISGUSTING.

Thread for the murder suspect gone with the corrections officer:

And of course her suicide attempt fails. Set to be evicted but she now has a roof over her head and so do her dead kids. SMDH.

I wonder who signed off on donating their organs, a bit hard to believe it would be her....

Maybe their dad?
Same thought crossed my mind. Really not sure how it would go but they refer to him I think as an ex and LE or medical etc. won't get involved except with the one having the legal right or both agreeing I would think or a hospital without proper signing but maybe. Or maybe he did and she didn't disagree if they needed both signatures/agreements.

Drought-starved Lake Mead reveals a decades-old barrel with a body inside

Water levels at the Nevada reservoir have depleted to such a level that officials predict more grim finds in the future

A body inside a barrel was found over the weekend on the the newly exposed bottom of Nevada’s Lake Mead as drought depletes one of the largest US reservoirs – and officials predicted the discovery could be just the first of more grim finds.
“I would say there is a very good chance as the water level drops that we are going to find additional human remains,” Lt Ray Spencer of Las Vegas police told KLAS-TV on Monday.

The drought-stricken lake’s level has dropped so much that a water intake became visible last week. The reservoir on the Colorado River behind Hoover Dam has become so depleted that Las Vegas is now pumping water from deeper within Lake Mead.

Authorities are still working to identify the body, but police said on Tuesday that the remains belonged to a man who had been shot decades ago.

The killing probably happened between the mid-1970s and the early 1980s because the victim was wearing shoes that were manufactured during that period, said Spencer, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

They just found the body over the weekend and already know who it is even though they can't say he was shot in any certain year from mid 70s to early 80s?? That's a bit odd... Was he maybe missing for ten years before anyone reported him missing maybe? Or said they hadn't seen him?

When I read the article, I wasn’t quite sure if they have really identified the body or not. It wasn’t written very well.
