Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

This is a very detailed article compared to some. I could cry for them all but even more so for the boy who it sounded as if tried to protect his mother and died only after giving the perp's name.

My daughter had heard of this case before I ever saw it the other day. She said what this article says, there was a welfare check apparently asked for by an out of state relative not long prior to them being found dead. Apparently/allegedly LE did go over to check on her and she answered the door and said to let them know she was fine. I have to wonder what happened there. Could he have been inside holding a gun to a child's head while she was forced to say all was good? This is just my speculation. Or perhaps at that moment all was fine but something prompted a family member to request a welfare check just prior as this article you posted hints at/shows and now it seems to not be something they are talking about.

"Wallace had told relatives she was two months pregnant with Jones' baby. The charges make no reference to the alleged pregnancy — nor do they mention the welfare check performed on the Payne-Phalen home by police an hour before the shooting."

An hour is a short period of time and then they are dead.
 
Wow, well let's see if violation of a bond condition is a big deal in this area of Wisconsin. It is not always looked at as mattering at all, a violation of bond. Interesting that the defendant receiving threats was moved to a safe house per the defendant's attorneys and this is why he did not notify of an address change they claim. Uhm okay... I am sure though this one will have probably both sides fighting hard, and probably publicly, after all it is a politically charged case so perhaps it will matter more than some.

Interesting. Well, kudos to them in attempting to hopefully mine the public for interest and thoughts and make it well known and share some things about the case, it sure can't hurt. Not sure that it will help but at least there is a realization here or so it seems that times have changed and different approaches may be needed and public attention and interest may help. The remark that it is a better approach than the old antiquated "wanted" posters shows a realization that many departments still do not seem to realize and we all know posters often don't reach as far as one would think. Sharing info too on an old case rather than holding everything for how many decades is something I do not disagree with... In some cases, it is well past time. I mean really if 20 or 30 years have passed for sure, why not? The perp is probably already dead or at least been free for so long that share what you have in the case with the public and particularly victims' families in hopes he/she will do some time. Jmo however.

Wow. More evil. Poison and abuse and torture. They report him missing and find him in a storage bin in their basement so let's add idiots to that. It makes me rethink the West case. These people had only been at this house a few months. They moved often. I wonder why it took a year for an arrest? I suppose pulling all of the records and data from the various places they lived etc. and knowing whether one or both did something to him... There are some very sick evil people in this world.

We have seen her before I think, but here is an example of what she did (I sure wouldn't want my kids in her class!) I hope she gets many years.
