ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Suspect in camping trip murder identified after dad found butchered in tent

Almost three weeks after Montana father and avid outdoorsman Dustin Kjersem was found dead on a camping trip, police have identified a suspect in his "heinous" murder.

The 35-year-old was found dead in his tent about two and a half miles up Moose Creek Road, near Big Sky on Saturday, Oct. 12. His friend who found him and called 911 initially believed he had suffered from a bear attack, but authorities quickly determined it was a homicide.

While authorities have not yet released the name of the identified individual, the suspect is currently in custody on unrelated charges.

This is awful. I think we could all make an educated guess on who the suspect is or the suspect on an with someone else... Meaning on behalf of or for a woman. Or on his own.

I'll leave it there as just total speculatton but won't be surprised if either is the case...

It seems to have happened similar to how I expected it happened.

Abbey reportedly said in his confession that he had planned to camp on Thursday, Oct. 10 at the site where he encountered Kjersem, whose camp was already set up.
According to Springer, Abbey said in his confession that Kjersem welcomed him to the campsite and offered him a beer.
“At some point, this individual struck Dustin Kjersem with a piece of solid wood, stabbed him in the neck with a screwdriver, and ultimately hit him with the axe,” Springer said.

These sites are not reservable and are first come - first serve. He had no right to expect that a particular site would be available to him - or any site, for that matter.

@SheWhoMustNotBeNamed Be careful!!

This woman believes what she is saying and I am inclined to believe her.
Wow. Said I was looking at no news ones from hereon out but was curious and backtracked on this one...\

I can be fooled or she sounds totally legit to me, it's one or the other... If legit, it's scary how clueless our F B I and LE can be... Let her go with and show you where for goodness sakes. Stupid policy and procedures hinder at times. Let her stand aways away and POINT to where if that's what it takes to get the right well, spot, etc.!

If she's wrong, she sure talks a good game, but nothing seems hyped or over the top with it it or her either though. Seems forthcoming and TRYING to have the right thing done...

I also am inclined to believe her I guess is what I am saying...

I've had two Amber alerts or maybe it is the same one from last night to today or in the wee hours til today. I have a stupid phone and can't find them now. MN. Crow something...? Crow Wing maybe? @Mel70 sure you probably got them do you know, are there two over the last 24 hours or same child? I have to go get my laundry out and then I'll try to search current/new alerts from MN. If iit is the same one, the child has NOT been found. If different, then two have gone missing many hours apart, different events, different incidents in the state. Again I have a stupid phone...

OMG.

Haven't read the linked link in the article but whole family abducted, man killed. her dad maybe? I'm just seeing. He also burned down a home. When I searched I just saw this, haven't read all yet...

Neighbors...?

Or was the man shot in a relationship with her but she had one with the suspect... NO IDEA. Did not see ages, etc. and they aren't sharing details as to relationships/connections.

Brainerd @Mel70

It seems simple to solve. If dozens of women are buried there, then take some cadaver dogs. They should hit on at least one while trekking the property. If they hit on one, then it's probably true and a bigger and more detailed search would need to be conducted.
