ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

On the face of it, my first thought is you got the 18 year old to do your dirty work. A bit of reverse this time. Now you are going to likely have a child with no parents but it is due to the mother killing the father instead of the other way around... I don't know the details but it appears he was only trying to see the child and give the child his last name and not take custody although who knows... On the face of it, there are so many deadbeat dads who care less to see their children, let him see the child...

Of course I could speculate that maybe between them he threatened to eventually go for custody but nothing states that and nothing excuses murder. If he just wanted some rights which it appears like and wanted to step up, then let him.

Your child for all intents and purposes because one would think you are going away for a long, long time is now parentless. So how did that work out for ya?

They don't even give the age of the child though so maybe there is more to this... If he failed to be around for a number of years and she had to do it all, it may change my view but not on the murder I don't think it would...

Finally, how did this trial move along so fast? It happened in 2020 and is already scheduled for March of this year, 2021. If only all moved at a decent pace like that. It is also odd they don't really detail charges other than conspiracy and they admitted to conspiring... No murder charges mentioned... Doesn't seem right.

What are you thinking??? Again maybe more to this and perhaps more will come out as often with early news it does but say what???

You can complain about your food and demand or try to get a discount, you cannot refuse to pay imo. The answer is you just DO NOT GO BACK if that bad and YOU GO home and write a scathing review or whatever and a letter to the manager! I'd like to know if they ate their entire meals, seriously! If one bite and no, then maybe they had a legitimate complaint, still you do not handle it that way... Record, take your pictures and go to the police or whatever... My remarks are based on whether this is truly what happened however...

Now you have a teen dead, another patron, not even your server!

Colorado again. Good ol' Colorado always in the news... Lots of great people there and no offense to them but that state and crime seems to be 24/7 for about two years now at least... And we don't hear the half of it...

Wow. So tragic. They were following their parents. Sad story. I think this says enough and a lot about the driver and our SYSTEM. He died as well.

"According to Chitwood, the suspect had 50 prior arrests and no driver's license at the time of the collision. He also noted that the suspect had been incarcerated eight times in state prison and had a criminal history of more than 200 pages, with crimes including carjacking, home invasion, robbery and grand theft." Emphasis added by me.

What am I missing here? I have read this like three times. It does not detail them finding the boy but I am guessing they found him in the residence naturally but it says when they got there there were no people inside. I am reading this to mean no parents nor anyone else were home? Or just not inside? Odd.

Regardless, very tragic.

Well that explains the omissions and it is about where it led me. I figured it was the parents or someone who was at the home with the child. They still don't know the relationship but I am going to guess in the group there is at least one relative and perhaps they were babysitting. The video said the mother lives outside the area so we either have dad or relatives and/or a babysitting relative most likely. Jmo. Sad.

I guess we only have the group's assertion it was an accident as well. And they tried to elude police upon return. In the People article it also said gunshots (plural)...

Head-on crash kills 7 children, 2 adults in California

The children were members of two related families traveling in a truck that was struck around 8 p.m. by a Dodge SUV.
FRESNO, Calif. — Investigators are asking for the public’s help to determine what led up to a head-on crash that killed seven children and two adults in central California on New Year’s Day.

The California Highway Patrol says everyone who reported Friday’s fiery crash on rural State Route 33 came upon the scene after the collision. The CHP hopes to talk to witnesses who saw what happened in the seconds before the SUV and the truck collided between Avenal and Coalinga. <snip>
