ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Police allege that Duke Webb, a 37-year-old special forces assistant operations and intelligence sergeant in the U.S. Army
That is not clickable for me or are you just pointing out the sentence? I caught that part and one would assume he was but they only mention him based here, thought maybe they would mention tours, etc.

Very true. If he had it, they didn't say much about whether he served overseas at all or in combat I mean. I may have missed it but I don't think so. Still horrible for the victims and their families no matter whether PTSD or not.

Trial likely in 2021. Got away for far too long.

In reading this, it is amazing to me they never questioned her friends and more and also amazing the friends did not seek to tell what they knew. In the friend's defense, they were young but I sure don't understand why some very basic questioning was not done. Hard road for a child to realize it was her father but good for her.

and heard on local news that the parents will not be allowed out for her funeral...as it should be.
Yes, I think that was in this article too. It should be that way. I hope they are making sure of the church they were part of... Not saying there was anything more to it but be sure to clear that... I can't help but read this one and think of the Vallow case.

So the 15 year old kid is testifying at the trial of both of his parents and one of the defense attorney keeps interrupting that she can't hear him... Then it is she couldn't see when he described, etc... Always nicely but constantly... So obvious. I want to SLAP her. Stupid games. I don't think any fool would buy it... I think he is dealing with enough. It did not shake him though. Dead infant brother. I tend to avoid such cases at times but I didn't know what it was about until I watched.

Her questioning was not any more impressive.

I posted another article a day or two back on this one. This loser is still at large. Go figure takes her out but not himself as is so often the case, just a female I suppose, expendable to him, I'll get another. I feel so horrible for her family. What a "man". What is that on his necklace? An angel? Hmph. I truly wonder what PiecesOS like this face when they meet the maker. They need to find him already and arrest him.

The Alabama man who shot dead an 11-year-old boy and injured his father while turkey hunting in May is now charged with capital murder.

Joshua Stewart Burks, 36, was initially charged with reckless manslaughter by the the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office for the death of fifth grader Troy Ellis on May 1.

On December 10 a Jefferson County grand jury upgraded the charges against Burks, a middle school teacher and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, to capital murder of a person under the age of 14.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The remains of a young girl have been discovered along the H.B. Van Duzer Forest State Scenic Corridor in rural Lincoln County, Oregon State Police said Tuesday.
Detectives are seeking the public’s help identifying the child they believe was between ages 6 ½ and 10.
Her remains were found Dec. 10 in the area of the scenic rest stop along the heavily wooded corridor, which winds through Oregon 18 from northwestern Polk County to Lincoln City.
Authorities said they are not aware of any missing children reports matching the child’s description.
The girl was about 3-foot-10 to 4-foot-6-inches tall and her hair was long and either dark brown or black. Her race or ethnic origin has not yet been determined. The results of a DNA analysis are not yet complete, state police said.
The condition of the remains suggests the girl had been dead for at least 30 days. State police have not released the cause or manner of death.
Police had previously announced the discovery of the remains without other details.
If you have any information that might help investigators in identifying this child, please call 800-442-0776 or *OSP (*677).

ETA I don't know if it had been posted already.
That is so sad. No missing child report... I had not seen this anywhere prior.

If no child is reported missing, I can't help but think a parent(s) did this whether bio, natural or step...
