Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

According to The Columbian, citing scanner traffic, “two people were injured and one may have been the suspected shooter.” The hospital was placed on ‘modified lockdown’ during the incident.

The way I understand it with an adult is if there is a third party (like a pimp) that would benefit and if someone tries to force or coerce the prostitution which certainly sounds like the case here. If she was prostituting herself out, it would not be trafficking.

I can look it up and try to find a link if necessary but I am fairly certain. In fact, it is one reason trafficking sounds so rampant these days as they did not used to call this situation that.

We don't have all of the facts but since he told her the gf was his sister, and offered her up to babysit, I am almost guessing she thought she was on a "date" with this guy or why the need to call the gf his sister. That though is speculation on my part...

I recommend reading this because the thought such can go on should be known. This poor child though, I don't want to know further details and there clearly was more. What do we have here, another cult or devil/Satan worship? The father is fine apparently. As a female and a MOM/GMA, I don't think anything could make me sit there and watch this done to my child, I would take the chance of being shot or whatever his reasoning is and he is THEIR FATHER and the HUSBAND. I think more arrests or at least one is likely to come of this one... Jmo and just reading between the lines...

I give up trying to understand some things. Okay, so apparently he had PTSD and there was a prior incident or two. But still, why would you kill your wife and full term baby she is carrying and yourself and leave your 3 year old alive? Thank the Lord he did for that child's sake but you take most of the family and yourself out but leave one. Odd.

Another thing I would add is that if he had issues as stated, it appears he was still an active duty Fort Bragg service member...?

Wow this guy is a total idiot. He is on camera everywhere and more. He tried to use Covid as an excuse that she was in a hospital and quarantined. It bites that a deal was made for second degree murder but he told them where her body was in exchange so I can understand it.

He is on video even moving the security camera. A real dumb-arse. May she RIP.

I agree with this decision. While I get publicity and media bias and inflaming the public intentionally by media can go on (and I disagree with that), I very much agree with open and transparent court proceedings to the public, especially in a widely known and followed case and especially when it involves law enforcement or any official. If it was refused, there would be many saying oh yes, because it is law enforcement, it is more private, no airing it live, what are they hiding, etc...
