Long Island serial killer suspect Rex Heuermann left his wife's hair on three of the prostitutes he is accused of murdering and his own DNA on another's body, prosecutors have revealed, as he makes his first court appearance.

Heuermann, 59, was dramatically arrested last night in midtown Manhattan outside his architectural office on Fifth Avenue.

He is suspected in the murders of the 'Gilgo Beach four' - four prostitutes whose remains were found on the Long Island beach in December 2010.

Today, Heuermann was charged with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Costello and Megan Waterman.

He has been named as the prime suspect in the murder of Maureen Brainar-Barnes, and is also being investigated for the murders of another six women found dead near the beach in 2011.

Heuermann has not yet responded to the bombshell charges.

He was led out of a Long Island police station this afternoon in handcuffs, towering over the police officers escorting him.

  • His wife's DNA was found on three of the victims' bodies
  • One of his own hairs was found on one of the victims' bodies
  • Cell phone calls made from a burner phone to the victims were traced to his office
  • A call made to one of the victims' sisters after she died was traced to his office
  • His Tinder profile with photos of him was linked to the burner phone
  • His Chevrolet pick-up truck was seen by witness to one victim's disappearance
  • He matches description of 'ogre' like man seen with one victim before she vanished
  • Heuermann conducted graphic searches for child porn and images of women being sexually abused
  • He also searched Google for updates on the case, searching 'why could law enforcement not trace the calls made by the long island serial killer'

In January this year, after watching Heuermann and his family since last March, the detectives in the case seized a pizza box he'd thrown in the trash outside his Manhattan office

OMG. Sure a lot leaking before the PC.

Child porn!!

I wouldn't be so sure the man quit his crimes... Clearly with the pizza box they needed his DNA..

Wow he is TALL and a woman wouldn't have a chance against his size or bulk either.

I have looked at this case so many times but wish I was fresher on the different victims. I know he called the sister of the one which is mentioned here but wasn't she the one they didn't feel was connected, Shannon Gilbert I think? Or am I getting it mixed up... And wasn't she the one too that called 911 and was at some party or someone's house and claiming they tried to kill her or some such...

In court, prosecution said four cell towers in Massapequa Park pinged the suspect in a box where the killer would be.

Rex Heuermann pleaded not guilty to the charges and is due back in court August 1.
I wonder what attorney he is going to run to and who will take this...

NOT GUILTY. No surprise. What they all do. I'm surprised there is a plea this quick... So they nabbed him at his office and then went and tossed his house...

No need to do that. I'd guess myself they were adults just guessing his age.

Yeah he'd likely maybe have good reason to not have anyone around his house like workers but boy he is also calling attention in a way by having a dilapidated house in Long Island. Didn't his kids or anyone visit? OMG he is probably a grandpa. This makes me sick.

His daughter works with him in his office.

Yeah, not Shannon Gilbert. I remember one sister called several times, the sister of one of the four wrapped in burlap.

Where did you read that Cuz? I only saw six charges for three of the women. He is a SUSPECT in others. Although information is coming out from everywhere so I very well could be missing something.

The link you posted has been updated. Maybe I'm reading it incorrectly:

Long Island serial killer suspect Rex Heuermann, 59, pleads not guilty to six counts of murder after sobbing to his lawyer 'I didn't do this' - as prosecutors reveal bombshell DNA and cell phone evidence against him

I don't know how many pages I read but had to break from it. So his wife was out of state during at least a few of the murders. They can't access her cell phone records due to retention policies but got his. I'd say very fortunate they still existed. So anyhow that seems to answer the question of how he did this when he was married and one would think both lived in the house in LI.

My interpretation is: There are SIX counts (murder first degree, murder second degree) for three victims. I surely stand to be corrected if mistaken. :hugs:
