Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

If she had dementia running through her family, she "might" have just thought that was the reason.

Maybe he had a habit of fixing her a drink at bedtime and she just thought she slept hard.

There are lots of reasons

The years of the offences were between 2011-2020 and, as she is 72 years old now, she would have been aged 58-68 years old at the time of these offences. I haven't seen anything about dementia, so what has that got to do with it? She was very heavily sedated.

He is also being investigated for murder.

It was just an observation of why she might not have questioned her memory lapses for so long. I know many that tried to deny dementia for a very long time even though they had a strong family history..

No kidding. This sounds like years of this and many men, etc. it's a bit unfathomable unless never not drugged by him, and always out of it, that she'd never have had some clue. Did she never have any clarity or suspicion? Did she participate in daily or normal life at all or take care of some things while he took care of others... Meaning laundry for instance. Cooking. A night of popcorn and movies...Did she shop or did he do everything and she was always drugged...

Again I'm not victim blaming whatsoever, HE is the one who is the evil POS, it's just hard to fathom and understand there'd never be a clue... Suspicion. Etc.

Let's just talk sexual infections... Was he making sure the men were condomed? Somehow I doubt it. Did she never suffer one? You'd suspect your hub at least if you didn't know what was going out when you were knocked out.

I'll leave that there. I don't want to think about or talk the details but I am saying unless he was totally incapacitated all of the time, I don't know how you could never have a suspicion. Or have to be awake enough to go get treated for a sexual infection or some such.

I don't with all due respect think that explains the years of this and all the things she would have to never realize. So she had dementia for years on end or she just "thought" since her family did, she figured when she thought something might be going on, she dismissed it from her thinking of maybe she is like family members who had it too and maybe she was getting such?

I think then you go to a doctor don't you? To see if you have such? Especially if a family history.

Which is of course nothing but speculation here. I don't think mention of dementia in her family has been made or any explanation has been other than it has been said she was shocked and never knew until now... in all these years. Reminds me of the Soto case but in a different way. Kind of hard to buy.

But who knows. Not enough info yet.

I mean does she live in the same home and ever have clarity in all these years? He must be superman to hide all this, do the laundry, the ads, clean up after, keep the men quiet (which wouldn't be hard considering what they were engaging in, they wouldn't want it known).

It IS so far a BIZARRE case.

Rather than dementia what about low functioning, dependent, etc...

Doesn't have it's own thread but maybe it should to see what shakes out here. It's very different. Sick beyond belief but a different type of case for sure.

I get that. It isn't video though unless I've always misunderstood it. Not a breathalyzer or drug test either. Pretty sure to this day there aren't cams in the cockpits... There are in some trucks and delivery services, etc. who don't own their own truck but drive for others. Hey when you are piloting a plane even if on the ground well.... Police should have to wear them, bodycams, a few who don't agree with me or I with them on everything agree on this...

They have a PLANE FULL of many passengers whether on ground or in air...

Forgive me for responding to your news of this. I take it you disagree and that's fine. Or maybe I'm taking you wrong and all you mean is there is a recording and there is with the black box. If that's all when then I read too much into it. No one does that so sorry if so.

I have to agree with ya on this one. I said similar.

Way too many years and never a hint or clue? Did he take care of EVERYTHING? And she simply was always in bed half comatose? It's a disgusting case but the actual explanations of such I'd like to know.

Some have family members that have dementia and know quite a lot about it.

I can claim that. I know a few others here can as well.

I don't see a reason to assume that here but in total speculation of course anything is possible.

They are given regular drug tests.
 
Here is another link about the Pelicot case. It really should have it's own thread as it is so unusual. He is actually pleading guilty, as are some of the men, but some are pleading not guilty, hence the trial. This link briefly just mentions the murder charge he is facing, at the bottom.

His daughter ran out of the court in tears yesterday on finding out he kept naked pics on his computer of her. Cannot imagine this and that they should have warned her surely?

Well, I don't think that's what I'm talking about. And if not before, this certainly deserved an alcohol and drug test after the incident of out of control airplane driving on the ground. Maybe it was a pure accident but any driver would get one and still imo they should have whatever quick test can be given before they ever get in one each day. They are again responsible for a plane full of passengers. So should school bus drivers, charter bus drivers, you name it.

Personally I think teachers should have such each morning as well. I can't tell you the number of teachers I know of who go to school drunk. My SIL (ex) and her cohorts being some of them... FACT.

I'd simply hope it gets a thorough investigation. Maybe it was just an accident and even a wrong directive or some such. Kind of doubt it though.

And with that, I've lost interest. Isn't worth it. See ya.
