Amber Alert issued for pregnant teenager suspected to be with 40-year-old man

An Amber Alert has been issued for a pregnant teenager who is believed to be with a 40-year-old man.

Sophia Franklin, 16, was last seen Sunday night at her home in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. She is three months pregnant.

Authorities believe she is with 40-year-old Gary F. Day, who is the father of Sophia’s unborn child. He was last seen at Sophia’s home Monday morning.

Day and Sophia have a no-contact order.

They are believed to be traveling in a 2014 model black Buick LaCrosse with Arkansas license plate BBR 20L.

I hope she realizes the trauma she has been through whether she thinks that way or not but to be hitch hiking, 17 years old and pregnant.... a baby that will need stability and normalcy.... on the run is not the healthy way to do it

Interview at this one.

IDAHO. I wondered when we found out they were at a truck stop if they weren't hitching rides with truckers, not a totally uncommon thing. And I wondered if they had been in more states because of it. Car broke down hmm. Great plans this man had--NOT. Couldn't afford to fix the car or was he scared to take it in? How was this man ever going to support her and a baby? Was mom's car even if I recall. Wonder what his source of income ever was or if he had any other than his mom...

I guess there is the chance she may have wanted to come home at some point and he "kept" her and she had no way but I somewhat doubt it. Both times she never got away or home willingly, they were found. Mom talks in the second one about healing to happen and him being locked away for as long as possible. Hopefully she will get away from him and stay away but now they will have a child together for the rest of their lives. And I doubt he will end up in prison for life. I hope they can get at least a stiff 40 or 50 yrs no parole, that should do it.

Neither article mentions any federal charges just the two states... He now should be able to be charged in ID and any other state they were in if they can prove it, I'd think? Add them charges on!!

1. Doing the math, Sophia is roughly 5 months pregnant. Baby should be due sometime near the end of July - mid August.

2. Gary Day was in court this morning. It looks like his bond hearing is scheduled for today as well.

i guesstimated 5 to 6 just from memory of where she was at in it when they left.

Should hear more after bond hrg. I'd imagine. havent' read article yet. doing next.

And whether he waives or fights extradition. Now they mention the Arkansas charges too, haven't seen that in most of the previous articles. So if they have it right he could possibly come back here before the June hearing in Nebraska, hard to say if that would then change... STill wondering about federal charges.

He has appeared in court this mornin and pled not guilty and is due back this pm.

SARPY COUNTY, Neb. (WLUK & CNN) — Gary Day, the man who was traveling with a pregnant Beaver Dam girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert, pleaded not guilty to two charges Friday and is expected back in court later today.

Day, 40, was arrested this week at a truck stop near Omaha with Sophia Franklin, who was reported missing Feb. 3. Day is the father of the unborn child.

He pleaded not guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor and providing a false name to law enforcement - both misdemeanors.

Day also faces charges in Vermont and Indiana for exploitation cases, which will be the subject of the afternoon appearance.

Beaver Dam police say a witness at the truck stop said she saw a young, pregnant girl with two older men and thought it was weird, so she went up and started talking to them.

The woman reported that the things they were saying were not adding up, so she walked away and did some research on her phone. After recognizing Franklin from the Amber Alert, she called police.

"The female reporting party said, 'It just doesn't seem right on what they're doing together,' and it was very inconsistent, and that's why she called 911," Sarpy Co. Sheriff Greg London said.

When police approached the three individuals, they say Day gave a false name. He also changed his appearance by growing a beard and mustache.

Day was taken into custody without incident, London said. Franklin was transported to Sarpy County's juvenile justice center and to a hospital to be checked out. Police say she and her baby are in good condition.

"[Her] parents were contacted and as far as I know, the parents are coming to Nebraska to reunite with their daughter," London said.

The man Franklin and Day were with was a trucker and he did not know who he was talking to, officials said. He was not arrested.

An Amber Alert was issued for Franklin after she was reported missing on Feb. 3. She was 16 years old at the time and three months pregnant. There was a no contact order in place between Franklin and Day.
