A sheriff's office in Alabama issued an alert Friday night after an inmate and the assistant director of corrections went missing earlier in the day. Authorities said the inmate, who was being held on capital murder charges, should be considered "armed and extremely dangerous."

Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton told reporters Friday night that Vicki White, a 25-year veteran at the department, left the local detention center with Casey Cole White at 9:41 a.m. He said she told other officials she was going to drop him off at the courthouse for a mental health evaluation and then was going to seek medical attention because she wasn't feeling well. Despite having the same last name, the two are not related.

Shortly after 11 a.m., someone found her patrol vehicle in a parking lot of a shopping center. At 3:30 p.m., officials became aware that no one had been able to contact her, and that the inmate had not been returned to custody.

An Alabama inmate who escaped from jail with the help of a sheriff’s official and led police on an 11-day manhunt that ended with the official’s death took a plea deal Thursday, the district attorney said.

Casey White pleaded guilty to escape but not a murder count in connection with the death of the sheriff’s official who helped him, Vicky White.

“We consulted with Vicky White’s family prior to entering into this agreement. They approved the settlement and are relieved to get the case resolved without a lengthy jury trial followed by years of appeals,” Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly said.

First-degree escape was the lesser of the two counts Casey White faced. He agreed to a life sentence, which will be imposed on June 8, Connolly said.

White’s already serving a 75-year sentence and faces trial in another murder.
Can't argue that and at least they consulted with the family. She certainly wasn't innocent in all of it. And he has so many years that he should never get out. Although the way things are going in this country, one certainly can't count on that any longer but hopefully he never will.

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Lauderdale County Circuit Judge Benjamin Graves is expected to hand down the sentence for Casey White Thursday, following his recent plea deal regarding his April 2022 escape from the Lauderdale County Detention Center.

White is scheduled to appear in person at the Lauderdale County Courthouse for the sentencing hearing, which is set for 1 p.m.

Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly told News 19 that White approached him to present the plea deal after the May 4 hearing. Connolly said White agreed to the maximum sentence for first-degree escape, life in prison, in exchange for the felony murder charge against him being dropped.

Alabama inmate Casey White was sentenced to life in prison Thursday for his escape from the Lauderdale County Detention Center last year, according to CNN affiliate WAAY.

Casey White still faces murder charges for the 2015 death of Connie Ridgeway, and a trial is set for August. He has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. He was being held at the jail in Lauderdale County for hearings related to the murder case.

Casey White was already serving a 75-year prison sentence for a crime spree in 2015 that included a home invasion, carjacking and a police chase, the US Marshals Service have said.
