Davenport Police conduct investigation of missing 10-year-old girl at Credit Island

Davenport Police are searching for a missing 10-year-old girl by the name of Breasia Terrell.

The last time anyone saw her was this morning on E. 53rd St., near Lorton Avenue.

She has been reported missing since around 3 a.m. and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops.

Early Friday night, around 4:30 p.m., police brought their search to Credit Island at the family’s request.

They say this was a frequent fishing spot for Terrell and her family.

Police were joined by the Davenport Fire Department in this investigation.

Crews brought out a boat, used sonar equipment and took pictures of the area, looking for any signs of Terrell’s whereabouts.

2nd Day of Henry Dinkins Trial, Victim's Brother to Continue Testimony on Monday

A Davenport police officer testified today during the second day of Henry Dinkins' murder and kidnapping trial. He's accused of killing10-year-old Breasia Terrell in 2020.

Sergeant Geoffrey Peiffer was one of the first Davenport police officers to respond to the report of the girl's disappearance. Dinkins attorney, Chad Frese, asked Peiffer a series of questions about when and why detectives "honed in on" Dinkins as a suspect.

"He had always remained the last person to be with her, and his movements in the middle of the night while she was missing, and lack of doing something that a normal adult would do when a ten-year-old child is in their care and custody, I think piques the interest of anybody who has ever had a child or cared for a child would understand."

Peiffer continued, "When a ten-year-old that you're responsible for is missing, and there is no sense of alarm, there's not a phone call made, there were no doors knocked on in the adjacent apartments. There was none of those things done yet by the time police arrived in the daytime hours. And when you have these types of facts of a young child, in an unfamiliar area, and the person solely responsible for her has indicated that he has done nothing to trying to find her whereabouts, other than drive around in a large, some 40-mile loop."

A crime scene technician and another Davenport police officer also testified. Then an FBI Special Agent took the stand and answered questions about evidence from mobile phones and cellular towers related to the investigation.

Breasia Terrell's younger brother, "D.L." who is Dinkins' son, also began testifying late Friday afternoon. On the day she disappeared, D.L. was with Dinkins as the suspect drove to the Clinton WalMart where he bought bleach and to Davenport's Credit Island.
The son was/is younger than Bresia I'm quite positive. So we have another poor child having to testify and in a case against his own dad. This man is a monster. What he did to this girl, his son's SISTER!

And if my memory serves, the children's mother had a child with this man and a relationship knowing he was a sex offender. I'm pretty sure she also knew he was not where he was supposed to be/registered as when she sent her son to him/with him.

This case makes me BURN. They all do but this one has a bit higher of a BURN.

And of course if I recall there was also a drug arrest and charges on him and I don't mean just for him having some and it was way out in some other county and sounded like some big time stuff. I think that happened after her death? Can't quite recall.

He is a total scumbag. From everything we've heard and seen anyhow.

I'd imagine his girlfriend who was home when he left with Bresia will also be testifying. Don't know if they ever had a child together but Lord I hope not. Because I would think she also knew he was a sex offender but I do believe she cooperated with cops and said he was not home, etc. at a certain point of the night or she found him gone or some such. Again not perfect recall, it has been THREE YEARS.

Day 2 | Friday, Aug. 11

9:16-9:55 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11

State called Sgt. Peiffer back to the stand. State presented an image of the area next to Kunau Implement Co. where Breasia's remains were recovered. The photo presented was taken in July of 2023 -- showing the vegetation covering areas. Sgt. Peiffer deemed the photograph is similar to what the area would've looked like when Breasia went missing on July 10th 2020.

State presented images of vehicles associate with Henry Dinkins: including his motorhome, maroon Chevy Impala and a black Chevy Camaro.

State asked Sgt. Peiffer to speak to the weather conditions during July 10th 2020. He said the weather was stormy during the search of the maroon Chevy Impala. When searched, they discovered mud stuck to the bottom: despite Dinkins being documented driving that vehicle only in dry areas.

Sgt. Peiffer discussed the use of cellphone towers during the investigation. Henry Dinkins cellphone made brief contact with a cellphone tower in Camanche, Iowa. Sgt. Peiffer said little data was exchanged at that contact point -- meaning the phone was turned on but not used.

Through video surveillance, Sgt. Peiffer discovered Henry Dinkins exiting the maroon Chevy Impala at a Clinton, Iowa Walmart where he purchased two bottles of Clorox bleach. Sgt. Peiffer detailed bleach can be used to conceal evidence at crime scenes.

9:55-10:33 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11

Defense began cross examination on Sgt. Peiffer.

Henry Dinkin’s defense questioned Sgt. Peiffer on why Henry Dinkins was the focus instead of his girlfriend at the time, Andrea Culberson. Sgt. Peiffer answered Dinkins was the sole person responsible for Breasia at the time. Again, the defense asked why their main focus was on Dinkins when other players were involved. Sgt. Peiffer replied, when a 10-year-old is missing and there is no sense of alarm, when a young child is missing in an unfamiliar area – and the person responsible for her made no actions but to drive around, the police were alarmed.

The defense brought up a homicide investigation in Clinton 10 days after Breasia's disappearance. Sgt. Peiffer said he was aware of that investigation. Defense brought up a bloody, child size 10 white tshirt was discovered in the back of that Clinton, Iowa suspects' car. Sgt. Peiffer stated he was aware of this.

Sgt. Peiffer agreed with the defense's statement that no blood of Breasia was found in the investigation, particularly in the Chevy Impala.

The defense stated that within a week, Henry Dinkins' pictures were put into the public view and remained there until Breasia's remains were found, making him a suspect. Sgt. Peiffer agreed with the defense.

10:33 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11

State began redirect examination of Sgt. Peiffer.

State asked Sgt. Peiffer to describe what he saw on the video surveillance at the Quik Stop during the 3 a.m. hour of July 10. Sgt. Peiffer described the maroon Chevy Impala parked by the gas pump. While Dinkins checked out, he noted Dinkins continued checking back outside towards the car and left in a hurry, without taking change from the cashier.

The state addressed the matter of the bloody white t-shirt in the Clinton homicide case the defense brought up during cross. The state asked Sgt. Peiffer to describe the clothing found along with Breasia's remains. Sgt. Peiffer said it was a white 4XL t-shirt: unlike the child size 10 t-shirt discovered in the Clinton murder suspect's car.

11:22-11:50 a.m. Friday, Aug 11

Civilian Crime Scene Technician for Davenport Police Department, Alicia Fritz took the stand.

Fritz said she took photographs and collected evidence at River Meadows apartment number 8 (Dinkins then residence with then girlfriend, Andrea Culberson) on July 17th, 2020.

The state questioned Fritz on how she tested areas for possible blood. Fritz said she used a chemical used to search for blood evidence that reacts with iron in blood to turn areas blue.

Fritz found chemical reactions on the toilet, mattress, sink, and bathtub in the apartment. She swabbed each surface for evidence.

On July 20th, 2020 Fritz was asked to dispatch to evidence processing area to swab the exterior areas of Henry Dinkins' maroon Chevy Impala.

On March 22nd, 2021 Fritz was dispatched to Clinton County after Sgt. Peiffer asked Fritz to respond to human remains being found.

Upon Fritz response to the human remains, she was instructed to photograph branches around the remains. When the state asked why, Fritz said the branches seemed to be cut around the remains, meaning the possibility of an intentional disturbance.

1:38 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11

Court returned from a lunch break. Davenport firefighter Dustin Garner took the stand. The State presented images Garner took from Breasia’s mother, Aishia Lankford’s phone. Those images displayed a conversation between Henry Dinkins and Lankford. The photograph showed a message from Dinkins’ phone that stated “Goodnight Mom.”

Garner stated that Lankford was willing to hand over her phone and her call log. Garner stated on July 10, 2020, he was sent to Lankford’s mother’s house to pick up two bags of clothing. Garner photographed both bags and turned them over to evidence.

Garner escorted a maroon Chevy Impala to Davenport Public Works where they removed the gas tank. Garner said this was to assess the amount of gas left, to see the distance the Impala traveled.

Once the Chevy Impala was raised, Garner stated he noticed mud and grass stuck under the vehicle. Garner said this struck him as odd, as the Chevy Impala had to be driven off-road to get mud and soil in the undercarriage.

3:20 p.m. Friday, Aug.11

FBI agent Richard Fennern discussed when data was picked up from Dinkins’ cell phone. Around 7 a.m. on July 10, there was a “burst of activity” on the phone when the phone appeared in a new area in Clinton and then where Breasia’s body was found. Those cell tower hits allowed investigators to later canvas that area for video related to the case.

4:25 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11

Breasia's younger brother D.L. takes the stand as a witness for the State. D.L. is now 11 years old. He is recounting the events of July 10, the day that he and his sister went to Dinkins' apartment he shared with his girlfriend Andrea Culberson in Davenport.
As Mel said, thanks to both for covering this and providing the info!

I don't understand the bags of clothing from Lankford's mother which would be grandma. Two bags of clothing. What use would that be? And it isn't explained either. Not that I have time to watch but does this trial have cameras or live feed? I know it's a bench trial. Or is the coverage coming from reporters who are attending in person?

The trial has a live feed covered by Law & Crime. Also, @SheWhoMustNotBeNamed's link shows there is an active reporter in the courtroom.

Aishia Lankford has 3 children with Breasia being the middle child. Her youngest is the son of the defendant.

As for the clothes, I haven't heard that come up before so hopefully it can be easily explained.

Thank you.

I knew there were the two children and that the son was younger and that she had him with this SO after Breasia. Not sure if I knew there was an older sibling.

The clothes just make no sense to me however after hearing it, it rings some distant bell but I still can't make sense of why or recall why it does. I remember that I believe the kids were with grandma and mom was working is that right?

I noticed that too. I can't believe 3 years already.

Here's an article about the clothes. Read it in it's entirety to get the full perspective. hth

DL and Breasia’s mom, Aishia Lankford dropped off clothes for the pair, including pajamas. The brother and sister met their mother in the parking lot, taking a moment to play with her dog.

The article. Circumstantial. But telling IMO. His behavior when she was spending the night, Her body found in the 4X T-shirt, Him apparently peering at her at the door of the bedroom asleep, Leaving and coming back twice, Then buying bleach, And the cars undercarriage caked with grass and mud. Her body found in water in a grassy, muddy area at the time months later. That would be enough for me.

Thank you!!

This article is something. OMG.

That this seven year old (at the time) boy has all these details is something else. Several things are clear and I think a big one is that when his dad showed up out of the blue, he didn't want to go alone but wanted his sister with. The entire thing hints at he was not okay with it all either or his dad/gf, etc. The weirdness about them all being in the back room and his noticing. The shirts. The fact the GF WOULD NOT let him call. She sounds involved in something or some part of at least something going on at the apartment. The fact he woke up and Bresia wasn't there and the he looked for his dad who wasn't there... It seemed this child knew or sensed things about his dad.

What is this bit about playing video games at someone else's home and a name that would be recognizable? Why can't the name be said? And who? I just can't think clearly on all these cases at the moment with little time and I feel I should know what they are getting at, but am just at a loss with it.

The bags of clothing make more sense now as you said BUT I thought they got them from grandma and this says they were dropped off with Dinkins doesn't it? At first I thought they were dropped with grandma in the other post. By mom. Something I am not getting here...

Very telling. And his own son at a young age knew what he was or sensed what he was imo.

There is plenty already in this bench trial from all I've read here. No judge nor jury would find this man innocent and if for some reason the judge does, something is very wrong. I don't see it happening though.

@kdg411 lThank you very much for the article my friend. :hugs: Good to see you.

I've started the clip when Breasia's younger brother begins to testify. Keep in mind he's now only 11 and only refers to the defendant by his first name. Also, Judge Latham recessed until Monday when the witness started to get a little hesistant (emotional) in his responses. He'll continue his testimony next week.

I doubt I'll find time to watch any of it but will say this sounds like one very sharp and attentive child. To be 8 years old and have noticed all this and be able to recall it today. He sounds to have been very close to his sister and now knows his "blood" father killed her. I would call him by his name and not call him dad either if I were him. It's absolutely heartbreaking he has to go through this and relive it and testify for his sister. He's her hero imo and I imagine she was his.

I've had no time for links, etc. but appreciate the posts as I try to at least skim the info you put here. It sounds to me as if Dinkins gf should have faced some charges too. I think if I recall she cooperated back when but still she was housing a sex offender and the son's remark about the three of them on the bed, etc. bothers me and that puts the gf in at least that position with it all at that time....

Highlights from today from Testimony continues Monday in the Henry Dinkins murder trial

Witness: DL (Breasia's younger brother)
After leaving Walmart, sometime later, they were at Dinkins' RV by a body of water. DL said he saw Dinkins clean a bloody Machete-type knife with bleach and then put the knife in the RV.

DL said he saw Dinkins shoot Breasia.

The prosecution asks him when was the last time he saw Breasia: When she got shot.

When asked why he didn't talk about that, he said it was hard to talk about and perhaps afraid of getting in trouble.

Witness: Aishia Lankford (Breasia's Mom)
On the 911 call, Lankford is heard telling the dispatcher her daughter is missing and her son's father doesn't know for how long. The dispatcher gives her the non-emergency phone number to report Breasia missing.

After a series of unanswered calls she was able to talk to Dinkins who said he was looking for Breasia and he said he would make a police report.

Lankford said she was interviewed by officers at the police department where she testified that Dinkins' clothing and shoes looked muddy.

In the evening on July 10, officers went to Lankford at her mother's house and showed her a photo of a shoe. Lankford said it wasn't Breasia's, after which she said she had an emotional breakdown after realizing they had to stop looking because it was dark. She remembers saying "We can't stop looking for her."

Lankford said she told police that Breasia was wearing seashell decorations in her hair. Lankford also Breasia did not like to get her hair wet because it would make her hair curl up.

About going to the site where Breasia's remains were found, Lankford said Sgt. Peiffer called her to tell her fishermen reported finding remains. When Lankford got there she said she was crying, looking for Sgt. Peiffer. she said she felt a "snug on her heart."

Police showed her a seashell as well as a shoe that she identified as belonging to Breasia's. In court, while looking at the photo of the shoe, Lankford voice broke while saying that was her "baby's shoe."

Witness: Andrea Culberson (defendant's ex-girlfriend of 6 years)
Culberson said she woke up to go to the bathroom at 3 a.m. and saw that Breasia was not in the bed.
She went to tell Dinkins. He was not in the apartment as she had expected.
She said her "mind was everywhere."

Culberson said she "stayed up" with the lights off. She said Dinkins came back to the apartment wearing different clothing than what he wore to bed.
She said he questioned where he was going. She said he gave a nonanswer and went to get something out of the closet.

In earlier testimony Culberson, said that when looking through the window at the parking lot, she couldn't see Breasia's face.
But the defense said that Culberson said differently during a deposition. Frese said Culberson said in that deposition that Breasia didn't seem upset or scared.

The prosecution asked if Culberson believed Dinkins left the parking lot with Breasia. She said yes.

*(so, the defendant left with Breasia prior to 3am and returned around 3:30am with different clothes on and that's when Culberson looked out of the bedroom window and saw Breasia standing next to the defendant's vehicle; the defendant returned just prior to 7am to pick up DL)

Cleaning off a bloody machete type knife with bleach. He's 8. When he's older, He's going to realize the full horror of this. No child should have to. His own father. POS.

I have a host of questions and remarks I thought about addressing last night but wasn't up to it and even now not sure I am. I count on seeing posts here to be informed so thank you. I even on a break started yesterday's court coverage live and hit I think the mom on the stand but only got a minute or two and then couldn't get back to any of it since.

The brother claims to have seen her shot? Also this thing about the girlfriend with one story and then another about seeing Breasia outside when Dinkins came BACK and then left again has always thrown me even before trial. I'm trying to dial in on what doesn't add up here, not sure if I can. But the brother wasn't with or picked up by Dinkins until later so are they figuring Breasia was alive all the time since they were both missing and came back and left again until the brother was with and saw her shot? It doesn't compute imo.

I AM NOT doubting the brother nor doubting Dinkins killed her and for sure sexually assaulted her imo but when each thing occurred is confusing.

GF woke up and found Breasia not in "the bed". Does she mean the one her and the defendant and the girl were all on earlier? Then she looked for him and found him gone too.

I am thinking her lies make the timeline confusing of when Breasia died. But the boy saw her shot??

Also in bits of what is posted here, it seems defense hasn't cross examined the brother, the mom, the gf??

When Dinkins returned the 2nd time at 330am Breasia was still alive and witnessed by Andrea Culberson. He returned to the apartment shortly before 7am and picked up DL.

From the testimony it hasn't been made clear when/where Breasia was murdered. We still have 4 more weeks of testimony so hopefully that gets cleared up.

Also, remember there is no SA charge against Dinkins, just 1st degree murder and kidnapping.

Dinkins girlfriend was asleep on an air mattress in the living room. Both DL & Breasia went to sleep in the only bedroom in the apartment. When Andrea Culberson woke up at 3am to use the restroom she noticed Dinkins wasn't there. She went to the restroom and noticed Breasia wasn't in the bedroom.

The defense has cross examined every witness thus far.

So if it is to be believed, Breasia could have left or someone could have saved her when they came back, etc. I don't know if I believe the girlfriends sighting which it said she now changed but her sighting would fit with DL far later seeing her get shot.

I don't know if where and when she was murdered will get cleared up, I think it is part of what has been muddled throughout these years.

I know there is no SA charge against him but I, fairly or unfairly, am believing of course he assaulted her. Whether he could complete an act himself is another thing but I believe he assaulted her and it was the reason she was killed. What other reason would he have for taking her or killing her? I guess she could have threatened to tell about something on him that wasn't related to such but I find that unlikely.

In fact, I wonder about his behavior or acts when he was with her mother, as to where she is concerned. Her brother seemed to have a pretty heightened awareness to how odd the behavior was with her on the bed with THEM etc. and he got that somewhere. He seems unsually observant for an eight year old which he would have been at that time right? To me it tells of a knowledge of his dad and his behavior or some such, etc.

On top of it all, if this is a typical one bedroom apartment like I or Mel live in, doesn't matter the layout, probably talking 700 square feet tops. That alone lends to a lot of questions.

I thought the kids were in the bedroom BUT the gf said if I read correctly on what you've been so good to post that she woke up and noted Breasia was gone and then she looked for Dinkins and found him gone. I guess it doesn't matter but seems to me if he wasn't in bed with her she would have noticed that first and then probably looked for Breasia BECAUSE her first suspicion was related to Breasia.

I'm not arguing or anything, just trying to make it all work and fit, etc. and catch up. I remember her supposed sighting of Breasia outside after how long into this case bothering me greatly and it didn't compute. Way back when. I'm still not sure I buy it. It almost seemed like a way at the time of helping him, see they came back, she saw HER and maybe then she ran off or someone else took her, thereby helping him out...

The boy saying he saw her shot threw me for a loop. There have been hints he may have been with through other testimony you shared, and I almost wondered if he was with on disposal, etc. but...

I don't know that we are going to get all the answers here.

As far as cross exam or even direct questioning, was DL questioned as to seeing her shot? It seems they rested after that question.
