Woman missing for months as cannibalism rumors swirl; image of partially nude caged woman found

As bizarre rumors of cannibalistic behavior and multiple murder victims flooded social media Saturday, authorities had confirmed little about a missing woman and two suspects now under arrest in South Central Missouri.

Federal authorities ramped up their search for 33-year-old Cassidy Rainwater. Investigators said two men held Rainwater in a cage on Moon Valley Road near Lebanon.

Federal investigators said no one has seen Cassidy Rainwater since July.

Someone reported her missing on Aug. 25.

Two weeks ago, FBI investigators from Kansas City got an anonymous tip that someone was holding Rainwater in a cage on some property near Lebanon. Authorities arrested Timothy Norton and James Phelps.

Prosecutors charged the two men with felony kidnapping. Court documents said investigators found photos on Phelps’ cellphone showing a woman partially nude and in a cage.

Investigators said Norton admitted he helped Phelps to restrain Rainwater.

Beyond the photos, investigators had not disclosed what they found on the Phelps property. Hostetler briefly spoke with Phelps just one time during the past year as his neighbor and heard the rumors of cannibalism.

Cassidy Rainwater is still missing. Anyone who knows where she is should contact their local law enforcement agency.

Well I was thinking last night that trip wires, explosives, arson and such might give them a whole lot of new evidence.
That's a thought. You know, it said didn't it, that LE detonated the explosive? I think it also said the fire kept relighting? Did they let it go down on purpose to see what went off further as it burned (more explosives for instance and to be safe?) and perhaps as you say gain evidence from arson investigators with burn patterns and more? I don't know though...

When was this home wired and planted with explosive(s)? And that wood pile still bothers me. And what seems like such a clean/perfect total burn...

It's probably nothing but the woman makes remarks at two different time as if they saw it burning before they called it in and then that when they saw it collapse they called 911 as well. That strikes me a bit odd.

The other thing is they said they found "a" trip wire... It didn't sound like several. I wonder if this possibly was there before but was never tripped...? Is that likely? Probably not if they were all over the property. Clearly they did detonate the explosive or otherwise the wire was tripped...

Strange case is all I can say.

@Guess Who anything from your neck of the woods about this case? It's not making news over here.

Since this is an unverified site, I'll post it but remember to read at your own discretion.
Just checking in real fast. Not much here on the news except a quick blip at the beginning and then nothing, but I haven't been able to watch much lately.

Knowing that area like I do, let's just say I am not one bit surprised about any of this. So many creepy things happening in the rural areas around there. I sure would not be surprised also to find out that they might have access to a pig farm (you all know where I am going with that one and there are many pig farms in that area). The shack and the booby traps are not a surprise, either.

And my parents wondered why I refused to move down in that area :sigh:

I only now saw your comment on this. Exactly. I mentioned the wood pile but I also wanted to ask if they could not put this out before it got to this point...? It was said I think the fire "relit" many times.... Weren't they on scene by then? And that wood pile right next to it is downright odd... A source of building a fire/something highly burnable RIGHT there and it didn't burn...?
fires in the rural areas there often relight. They are all volunteer firefighters with limited water resources. Once they run out of water and the fire appears to be out and not likely to spread to other homes, they pretty much can't do much else. A coal left and a quick gust of wind often reignite.

Miss you on here. Hope all is okay.

This case seems to be hushed.

Scary what you say about that area. Our rural areas and small towns which used to be all families back in the day, tight knit and religious, are turning into similar areas. Meth imo up our way...

Pigs... Oh boy...

Can for sure relate. Just wanted to be sure, just like all are worried with @TrackerSam . I truly figured someone probably knew she just had something going on. Glad to hear she is around.

Oh that part. The cannibalism. I don't think that actually was mentioned in the thing I read, the first I saw that was here and it was like WOW.

Quite the case or the rumors it sounds like... The house burning down to the ground is yet another hmmm.
I would lead to more burying or pigs than cannibalism, but who knows in that area!

As for burying, that area is very rocky, but has patches of thick dirt also. This is also why pigs are common down there. Not good areas for pasture animals. Pigs don't care. Just throw something in for them to eat and they are not picky.

Not really that odd since there are probably no real close neighbors and most people burn their trash there, so seeing smoke is not uncommon at all.

So this is the general area your folks lived in? Boy you had more than one reason for wanting to get them to move. Strange case.

Meth is VERY common there. VERY common.
I think we can all safely assume that Cassidy is not alive though.
I think meth in most rural areas of the US these days is very common. I also think there are still many people who have no idea of this and who even live in areas that it is going on and have no clue.

Cassidy I agree is most likely dead. There must have been a point he did not want her dead when the other guy had to come help restrain her because I would think he could have just killed her then... I don't want to think though why he perhaps didn't want her dead at that point or what he continued to do to her that he wanted her alive.

I wonder what more, if anything, there is to this or to come...

I believe Cassidy is just the tip of the iceberg. They were also truck drivers and that opens up so many more ideas in my head! :panic:
