Woman missing for months as cannibalism rumors swirl; image of partially nude caged woman found

As bizarre rumors of cannibalistic behavior and multiple murder victims flooded social media Saturday, authorities had confirmed little about a missing woman and two suspects now under arrest in South Central Missouri.

Federal authorities ramped up their search for 33-year-old Cassidy Rainwater. Investigators said two men held Rainwater in a cage on Moon Valley Road near Lebanon.

Federal investigators said no one has seen Cassidy Rainwater since July.

Someone reported her missing on Aug. 25.

Two weeks ago, FBI investigators from Kansas City got an anonymous tip that someone was holding Rainwater in a cage on some property near Lebanon. Authorities arrested Timothy Norton and James Phelps.

Prosecutors charged the two men with felony kidnapping. Court documents said investigators found photos on Phelps’ cellphone showing a woman partially nude and in a cage.

Investigators said Norton admitted he helped Phelps to restrain Rainwater.

Beyond the photos, investigators had not disclosed what they found on the Phelps property. Hostetler briefly spoke with Phelps just one time during the past year as his neighbor and heard the rumors of cannibalism.

Cassidy Rainwater is still missing. Anyone who knows where she is should contact their local law enforcement agency.

a few interesting tidbits from this article

"it has apparently not been secured by investigators."

"One man quoted by the Star who had driven more than an hour just to look at the potential crime scene grimly noted that “these guys could have been pulling this off for years.”"

Wow. Believe it or not I had not read this until now or missed doing so somehow... I realize now why a post or two did not make perfect sense to me because I had not read this blog. The Springfield 3 and Echol Lloyd? Possibly anyhow. I heard cannibalism but now realize it came from this article, I thought it was from something online...

This is SCARY. Let me join you... :panic::panic::panic:

I get the feeling there would have been a huge presence had 13 sets of remains been discovered. Not to mention a coroner being involved. Just my 2 cents worth.

Plus we are talking about very rural police force, but I would think the FBI would be a bit better about securing it. We also have to remember that in some of these very rural areas, a LOT of stories get inflated as it gets told from person to person BUT I would not be too terrible surprised to find out it was all truth...and more.

I hope not actually. Meat hooks? Body parts? One would think the feds would secure the property in such a case at least to prevent the curious from coming on the property... BUT these things are stemming from somewhere... There is often a bit of truth in most rumors...

I remember all the rumors coming true surrounding the Holly Bobo case. :( Broke my heart!

Addressing Fake News: There is a lot of misinformation and rumors regarding the Cassidy Rainwater case being circulated across social media and various news platforms. While I understand the impatience and curiosity of the people, I’m going to give you a piece of advice. It is not a good idea to listen to “a crime reporter/blogger “or Tic Tok videos that is sitting in their apartment or their mommy and daddy’s basement eating Great Value cheese puffs and drinking box wine with grand intentions of being a social media superstar. If you are hanging on very word is this type of crap, believing it to be fact, you are living in a fantasy world. This isn’t a tv series or movie where we go to commercial break and have lab results in 15 minutes. Searching a crime scene for 7 days 24 hours a day takes that long, 168 hours. 99.999999% of what has been posted to social media is CRAP. Law Enforcement Officers must play within the rules of the American Criminal Justice system. While the system has its faults, it’s still the best system in the world. We are judged by a jury of our peers with a Judge presiding over the case, a Prosecutor who presents the case, and a Defense attorney who defends their client. This is where ALL facts of the case come out, not Tic Tok, Facebook, or any other social media outlet. NO, you are not entitled to a play by play of an ongoing investigation. If you want to be in the know, we are hiring along with every other law enforcement agency in the country. We are working in the real-world and this is an active ongoing investigation. When all members of the prosecution team believe that it is appropriate to release information, we will keep you informed. Until that time, I can tell you we have all parties involved with Cassidy Rainwater’s case in jail and we expect additional charges to be filed in the coming days. If you are not a resident and are planning a trip into our Beautiful County to sightsee, remember a few things. While the citizens of Dallas County are friendly, neighborly, caring, and kind people, we do not like those who show up to trespass, litter, vandalize, harass, or destroy property. If this is your intention, you are not welcome here and we will prosecute you for this. Sheriff Rice.

I cannot believe he insulted box wine!! Or cheese puffs for that matter :(

Just kidding and in all seriousness great response and he made a good point when he said they are hiring as are all LE agencies :) I do disagree that ALL facts of the case come out at trial as he said. They certainly don't always by any means but I get the point.

Not sure what rumors are true and which are not but I do tend to believe this was likely going on in his county at this residence for some time or at least something was. The rest of some of the rumors are pretty out there BUT he did have her in a cage and there is picture evidence LE says of that. Sadly, I doubt she was kept in there as a well cared for pampered pet.

The rumors and hype in this case must be on FB or blogs or somewhere else because I have seen very little on YT about the case at all.

Sex offenders tied to property in kidnapping charges, records show

At least two registered sex offenders listed their address as the property where authorities believe two men held Cassidy Rainwater in cage, according to official records.

One registered sex offender currently lists their address as the Moon Valley Road property on the Dallas County Sheriff's Department registry of sex offenders.

On that same list, another offender listed their address in Buffalo, but a 2008 court record in a charge of illegal pursuing, taking, or killing of wildlife listed their address as the Moon Valley Road property.

It's unclear how, if at all, these two individuals may be involved in the alleged kidnapping of Rainwater by James Phelps and Timothy Norton.

Phelps and Norton are scheduled to appear in court on November 5 for a preliminary hearing.

That sounds like there is a lot more to this... I suspect the minds of others went where mine has... I'll just say, only somewhat subtle way to say it is, what was this property and what went on there... Sounds like a bunch of deviants lived there or listed it as their residence... Jmo.
