The parents of a Kentucky woman last seen 10 days ago suspect foul play in her disappearance.

Crystal Rogers, 35, a mother of five, was last seen by her live-in boyfriend, Brooks Houck, on July 3, according to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office.

Houck has said he had nothing to with Rogers’ disappearance. He has been extremely cooperative with investigators, police said, and he took a polygraph test.

A Kentucky police officer has been fired for allegedly tampering with an investigation regarding the missing girlfriend of his brother, who has just been named the only suspect in her disappearance.

Crystal Rogers, 35, has been missing since July 3. Her boyfriend, Brooks Houck, has claimed the last time he saw the mother of five was the night before, playing games on her phone.

The only clue in Rogers disappearance was her maroon Chevy Impala, which was found unlocked and with a flat tire on Bluegrass Parkway on Saturday.

Inside were her keys, purse and uncharged phone.

Judge denies request to reduce Brooks Houck's bond in Crystal Rogers case

Brooks Houck's $10 million bond will remain after Nelson County Circuit Court Judge Nelson Simms III denied a request to reduce it.

Houck is charged with murder "by intentionally or under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life wantonly causing the death of Crystal Rogers," along with tampering with physical evidence.

Houck has pleaded not guilty.

In denying the bond motion, Simms' order on Monday cited the need to "adequately protect cooperating witness(es) and other individuals associated with this case."

"The Court is gravely concerned for the safety of any such witness(es) and any other individuals connected to this case," the order stated.

GOOD. And I'd hope anyone in his family or group of friends or whoever he might try to get to whack a witness realize this is not worth doing so for him any longer if they value their own freedom as FINALLY the tide seems to be changing and people are WATCHING.

No kidding! This bunch appears to have no problem eliminating anyone in their way! 😡

Hmmm, I wonder if it has anything to do with not wanting to answer certain questions she is bound to be asked in court
It's been years, this child is in double digits and had the influence of him and his family all these years. Interesting how fast she abandons the child but I suppose with her recording grand jury sh*t, her son arrested and all the heat, what was the poor woman to do... Both cost and all this coming down on them she has to handle ya know...

I'd like to think she saw the light and decided to do the right thing but nah, not buying that one.

and possibly sees being charged herself soon???

That is going to be a huge transition for all involved. It's been several years since he has had any contact with his grandmother or siblings.
Without a doubt. This case and the case of Maya Millette, I think about the kids a lot being with the wrong side as so much time passes. Even in a normal bitter custody fight with no crime, years of the children's lives can pass with the court's slow pace and their entire childhood be affected.

Money may also play in here? Clearly they don't have the money to bail him out and perhaps she doesn't have it for a custody fight either. OR SHE is preparing to flee!

So for her to record grand jury testimony she must have been summoned to testify... No? Have to admit haven't read all links but did read this one about custody. They shouldn't be allowed to remain or stay to record grand jury proceedings or did she just record her own? I should try to go read that but it's a work morning :(

Crystal Rogers' case | Judge delays Joseph Lawson's next court hearing until 2024

A judge has delayed Joseph Lawson's next court hearing in the disappearance of Crystal Rogers.

Lawson, 32, was the first man arrested in connection to Rogers' 2015 disappearance. He is charged with conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence.

He was scheduled to have a pre-trial hearing in Nelson County Circuit Court on Thursday, but Judge Charles C. Simms III has pushed that date back to Jan. 5, 2024.

It's unclear at this time why the court hearing was moved back, however both the prosecution and defense have agreed to the move.

Who is Joseph Lawson?

A Kentucky State Police detective executed a warrant on Lawson in August 2023, two months after a grand jury indicted him on the two charges.

According to the indictment, both charges stem from an incident on Fourth of July weekend in 2015. That is the same weekend Rogers was reported missing and just days before her keys, phone and purse were found inside her car on the side of the Bluegrass Parkway.

Lawson is accused of destroying, mutilating, concealing, or removing physical evidence and aiding in the commission or planning of a crime that intentionally caused the death of another person.

Lawson's pre-trial hearing has been pushed back to Jan. 5, 2024.

Attorneys could discuss the possibility of consolidation, which would mean Brooks Houck and Joseph Lawson could be tried together. Houck is the other person charged in Rogers' case.

Lawson's name may sound unfamiliar, but this isn't the first time we've heard the name come up in this investigation. WHAS11 discovered a possible link between the two suspects dating back to 2015.

Delay. 2024! Unclear why the article states which I find unacceptable.

Just doing my "job". Pointing out delays. I can't imagine how many I've missed since hard to keep up with the ones I do note it is so the norm.

Delays seem like the new normal to me. At least in the high profile cases I'm following. LISK, Delphi, Dulos, and others I can't remember.

Supreme Court: Judge in Crystal Rogers case gets chance to decide whether to recuse himself
The chief justice of the Kentucky Supreme Court has ruled that the judge presiding over the Crystal Rogers murder case should be given a chance to decide whether to recuse himself before the state’s highest court considers a request to remove him.

Attorneys for defendant Brooks Houck filed an affidavit earlier this week seeking to have Nelson Circuit Court Judge Charles Simms III disqualified on the basis that the judge allegedly is biased against Houck.

Kentucky Chief Justice Laurance VanMeter issued an order Wednesday sending the request back to Nelson Circuit Court, saying Simms should have been given an opportunity to choose whether to recuse himself before the matter was sent to the Supreme Court.

If Simms decides to recuse himself, a substitute judge would be appointed. If he does not recuse himself, VanMeter said he will then consider whether to disqualify the judge. Simms would have an opportunity to “include in the record whatever countervailing facts or considerations” he thinks are pertinent, according to the order.

There seems to be quite a new norm in recent months of what defense teams are doing/throwing. Off the top of my head, Kohberger, Richins, Delphi, now here. I am sure I am forgetting many.

They have a right to fight for their client and should, don't get me wrong but it seems to be on an entirely new level and in some, very questionable as to what they do/did. Delphi and Richins for certain..

I feel for her family. Justice has been a long time coming and now this. It is going to be a battle apparently...

This doesn't mean the SC will remove him or that there is any reason to or that he will recuse but the way these days courts take no chances when it comes to defendan'ts rights well...

I didn’t realize Houke had all those assets until he was arrested. Once I found that out, I figured this was gonna take a long time to get to trial.
