Actor Danny Masterson has long been accused of acts of sexual violence, and on Wednesday the That ’70s Show actor was finally arrested after being charged with the rapes of three women in separate incidents dating back to 2001 and 2003.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey's office charged the 44-year-old with three counts of "rape by force or fear." "If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of 45 years to life in state prison," the district attorney's office said in a statement.

The complaint accuses him of raping a 23-year-old woman in 2001. He is also charged with committing two other assaults in 2003, one against a 28-year-old woman in April, and another against a 23-year-old woman between October and December of that year.



The case will be prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Reinhold Mueller of the Sex Crimes Division, who stated that all of the alleged rapes occurred at the actor's Hollywood Hills home.

Prosecutors noted that they declined to file sexual assault charges against Masterson in two other cases, "one for insufficient evidence and the other based upon the statute of limitations for the crime alleged."


Masterson has been held on $3.3 million bail. He is represented by defense attorney Thomas Mesereau, who previously represented Bill Cosby, Michael Jackson and Mike Tyson against sex crime charges. In a statement to the Associated Press, Mesereau insisted that Masterson is innocent.

“We’re confident that he will be exonerated when all the evidence finally comes to light and witnesses have the opportunity to testify," the attorney said. “Obviously, Mr. Masterson and his wife are in complete shock considering that these nearly 20-year old allegations are suddenly resulting in charges being filed, but they and their family are comforted knowing that ultimately the truth will come out,” Mesereau said. “The people who know Mr. Masterson know his character and know the allegations to be false.”

The criminal complaint doesn't name the victims, but the timeline of the accusations matches those of four women who accused Masterson of sexual assault in 2016 and 2017 as part of the #MeToo movement. Last year, they sued Masterson, along with the Church of Scientology, to which he belongs, alleging that the powerful and secretive organization stalked and intimidated them for coming forward with their police reports. Masterson and Scientology officials all denied wrongdoing.

Masterson responded to the suit with a statement: “This is beyond ridiculous. I’m not going to fight my ex-girlfriend in the media like she’s been baiting me to do for more than two years. I will beat her in court—and look forward to it because the public will finally be able [to] learn the truth and see how I’ve been railroaded by this woman. And once her lawsuit is thrown out, I intend to sue her and the others who jumped on the bandwagon for the damage they caused me and my family.”

In the lawsuit, the women each claim Masterson forced himself on them or took advantage of them when they were intoxicated and unable to consent.

Masterson is set to be arraigned on Sept. 18.

The news is stating it? Awesome because rarely do I see it touched with a ten foot pole, they won't even breathe a word about scientology that I've ever seen, very rare no? Maybe with his case they do as it is difficult to discuss without doing so but still they do avoid it imo.

WHY LE and investigators of LE have not taken down this CULT, I cannot fathom. It seems it has to be the INFLUENTIAL, FAMOUS and MONIED people KNOWN to be INVOLVED in it and who back it. Payoffs? Fear? What is it?

I used to watch most of their shows but have become not enamored much of most of them. ?here is ONE channel I like and will still watch and one other i will watch on rare occasion. Anywhooo, when they have a show discussing takedowns of other cults in the past OR more commonly, if they are discussing Daybell and the cultish stuff around Chad and Lori's beliefs, etc. I would and still do on occasion ask in chat what about scientology and why has no one taken them down??? Not ONE time have I ever had it acknowledged or responded to or answered. Don't get me wrong, I don't do it always, just every so often if cults are being talked of and the difference between religion and cults, etc. OR the takedown of another cult. And don't get me wrong here either in that all channel holders don't answer all questions but I've had others responded to and for the number of times I have asked such, NEVER have I had an answer or acknowledgment on any of them. Wouldn't you think, especially since it can't touch them, they are retired and not of even the same area, it would be talked of. At times these are shows ABOUT cults and they avoid even including or mentioning them when talking of various cults. I find it extremely strange and telling.

I see NO reason our government and the feds or that areas LE should not be attempting to take them down. Of course with the secrecy, size, power, etc. getting enough on them to do so I guess could be difficult but none will even SAY anything about them or what they THINK of them and various allegations through the years.

It is so hush with anyone who could discuss it or knock them that one can only suspect it is $$$ or someone so big is in it and behind it that even retired big time LE will not even TOUCH talking of it and they KNOW IT. Seriously. I think myself that's a stretch and ridiculous to think that but why then are they avoided in such shows on cults and discussions, etc.? It is absolutely shocking and disgusting imo.

The fact Masterson got serious prison time is wonderful and at the same time shocking. I'd bet he is as thrown for a loop as we are, so used to anyone Hollywood getting off and with Scientology behind him but then MAYBE scientology left him adrift and disassociated as much as they could while still being behind the scenes. Kind of like in Daybell where the church has tried to separate from them and that case as much as they possibly can, they aren't going to be taken down WITH THEM, however, an oft not discussed thing is some church lawyer or something was in contact with Lori when she was in the mental hospital. Funny how that snippet has just kind of been forgotten and disappeared. They have full interest in what the perps will sa yor do imo but they are NOT going to go down with them.

you may have explained that in the past, seems to me you have but my recall isn't great, but even so I don't mean even just physically, i mean they won't hardly respond or mention them. at all, all stay away from them or mention of them like with a ten foot pole as does news and more. and i'm talking retired LE, most not even from that area.

I watched a lot of the 70s show and personally thought it pretty stupid overall but it had its moments. But I did keep watching it., mostly as it was the only thing on on what channel in the early afternoon evening or I would have likely never bothered. The more recent thing I saw Masterson in in these past years was the Netflix series, can't recall the name but I think it and he stopped abruptly. A homestead, ranch, a brother, and dad was he Sam Elliott or am I mixing up my shows? My uncle turned me and my mom onto it, it was a series he and his wife were watching.

Interesting that Conan says here you will be caught soon.... Just meant to be nothing but a joke right.... Hmmm.

And the thing is everyone does know about them and it stops nothing that they do and for years now. They may do it not right out in public when it would be beyond stupid to do so now, but I don't think anything would stop such done in some fashion. MAYBE they are smart enough to know just leave it alone...?

There is also hardly a person out there that will cover the subject and the big time retired cops, some of whom have helped bust cults and brag about it, won't even utter the name of scientology. WHY? Someone explain that to me.

It makes one wonder just WHO is in it and even behind it these days that we don't know about or who always has been maybe that isn't known about, even perhaps to lower members.... Oh we know of actors like Tom Cruise, Masterson. We know of Leah who is the bravest outspoken one who left and is against them that I know of about it. But WHO ELSE is IN IT? That's big and not just some nut job actor that is an evil rapist, thinks women are inferior etc.? There is SOMETHING and SOME reason no one who could do something about it will even TALK OF IT and how it IS a CULT.

I HOPE this judge and this jury and this sentence is the start of something that should have started a LONG time ago. I hope people that know and left get louder and bolder. I hope this is the grass seed or grass roots so to speak to let Scientology know times are changing and have changed. I'm not counting on it but we can hope. More likely they'd cut Masterson loose and say they had nothing to do with it, not their teachings, not anything. Just as the LDS church does with Daybell. Disassociate while trying to ensure things behind the scenes...
