Danny Masterson Charged with Three Counts of Rape "By Force or Fear"
If convicted on all counts, the That '70s Show actor could face 45 years to life in prison.

Actor Danny Masterson has long been accused of acts of sexual violence, and on Wednesday the That ’70s Show actor was finally arrested after being charged with the rapes of three women in separate incidents dating back to 2001 and 2003.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey's office charged the 44-year-old with three counts of "rape by force or fear." "If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of 45 years to life in state prison," the district attorney's office said in a statement.

The complaint accuses him of raping a 23-year-old woman in 2001. He is also charged with committing two other assaults in 2003, one against a 28-year-old woman in April, and another against a 23-year-old woman between October and December of that year.

The case will be prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Reinhold Mueller of the Sex Crimes Division, who stated that all of the alleged rapes occurred at the actor's Hollywood Hills home.

Prosecutors noted that they declined to file sexual assault charges against Masterson in two other cases, "one for insufficient evidence and the other based upon the statute of limitations for the crime alleged."

Masterson has been held on $3.3 million bail. He is represented by defense attorney Thomas Mesereau, who previously represented Bill Cosby, Michael Jackson and Mike Tyson against sex crime charges. In a statement to the Associated Press, Mesereau insisted that Masterson is innocent.

“We’re confident that he will be exonerated when all the evidence finally comes to light and witnesses have the opportunity to testify," the attorney said. “Obviously, Mr. Masterson and his wife are in complete shock considering that these nearly 20-year old allegations are suddenly resulting in charges being filed, but they and their family are comforted knowing that ultimately the truth will come out,” Mesereau said. “The people who know Mr. Masterson know his character and know the allegations to be false.”

The criminal complaint doesn't name the victims, but the timeline of the accusations matches those of four women who accused Masterson of sexual assault in 2016 and 2017 as part of the #MeToo movement. Last year, they sued Masterson, along with the Church of Scientology, to which he belongs, alleging that the powerful and secretive organization stalked and intimidated them for coming forward with their police reports. Masterson and Scientology officials all denied wrongdoing.

Masterson responded to the suit with a statement: “This is beyond ridiculous. I’m not going to fight my ex-girlfriend in the media like she’s been baiting me to do for more than two years. I will beat her in court—and look forward to it because the public will finally be able [to] learn the truth and see how I’ve been railroaded by this woman. And once her lawsuit is thrown out, I intend to sue her and the others who jumped on the bandwagon for the damage they caused me and my family.”

In the lawsuit, the women each claim Masterson forced himself on them or took advantage of them when they were intoxicated and unable to consent.

Masterson is set to be arraigned on Sept. 18.

@Kimster The above is not directed at you of course. I trust you know that. I totally agree with you. Venting about the same thing and just jumped off from it. I haven't seen much on this even covered, the verdict, Leah, etc. It should BE but just another example of how it isn't.

Whatever you watched, please share links in fact. I've encountered almost nothing. Not Leah talking, someone covering it, nothing. Of course I don't get time to focus like on this case or look for it either but I do read new posts in cases here as much as I can.

Watched the first one. It must be a clip because they never had the guy with her talk and I also did not like how they ended the show with the emphasized several parts of the church's denial after Leah spoke. Last words by the church. I believe her 100 percent. Not them. Channel was doing a full disclaimer if you ask me by putting their words in emphasis last. Talk about NOT being willing to get involved BUT they did have her on I guess...

Wow. THIS was interesting. Forget dumb Ashton and Mila. They look like fools. Well I will say it is interesting that both letters talk about Danny living a drug free life and how he was instrumental in Ashton staying drug free from a young age even though in the Hollywood scene. Then later it is said how she said she credits the set and people of the 70s Show etc. of being a drug free zone and job and set, etc. And then it is mentioned how the difference in the two trials is that in this one testimony was allowed that the women believe they were drugged. Seems to me drugs are mentioned on PURPOSE with Ashton and Mila, and the lack of them with Danny. If you think of the hypocrisy too of anyone wanting to be a role model and not a hypocrite, the 70s show was ABOUT drugs. I know pot isn't the same as meth or heroine, etc. so don't take it that way, I am simply saying they tout this "drug free" thing but act on a show of a supposedly drug free set and group showing other young people in the world how cool and silly it is to get all high and messed up. It is all such b.s. and said for a reason re Masterson if you ask me. I suppose they can't come outright and say it is b.s. he drugged the women since they are writing to the very judge who allowed the testimony but they make subtle points of how Masterson is a no drug kind of guy. They can go take a flying leap as far as I'm concerned. Their apology or whatever it was was dumb and scripted and I agree with the people on Vinnie's show, they'd have been better off leaving it OR just saying we were simply supporting and saying what we knew in our relationship with Danny and we are sorry if some are hurt by that. PERIOD.

So I was going to dismiss them but went on about them anyhow lol. Whatever though.

Now the Hollywood Ripper and Ashton, now that's interesting. I recall it vaguely and remember how odd it was he would be the date of who the ripper targeted on that very night but of course it got tamped down if you ask me as I don't recall much about the case, the PR team went to work I'm sure hushing, silencing news, etc. Or maybe I just didn't look for it but it was nothing but a ripple as I recall at first blush and then maybe a mention later when he had to testify. Now Danny's ex could have an axe to grind and it could be false what she claimed on her Instagram but that would be pretty darned stupid...

Here's a thought watching Leah's video with Chelsea and then this one on Court TV you posted that comes to mind. Leah made it clear how they are to pressure their friends to join or shut them up if they are knocking the "religion" etc. Ashton gushes about how solid and moral and all a guy Danny was/is and how he kept him off drugs and was instrumental in like leading him in life, etc. so was Danny never expected to bring Ashton to Scientology.... I mean he held/holds him as a ROLE MODEL... Mila close to the same. Friends since young adults and all this credit they give him and all for teaching them, setting an example, etc...

On a total 180, I am going to bet not for one minute did Danny think he'd actually be convicted and after that, I don't think he believed he'd be sentenced in a serious manner.

Women to rape are going to be in short supply where his going.

Almost forgot, I think it was Ashton who said he's no danger to society or something like that.

Don't like him. Don't like her. Can't STAND Danny.

i watched the 70s show back when. It was dumb as all he77 and the only really occasionally funny person on it was the mother. Reruns of it were the only thing on on a certain time slot like 5 or 4:30 or 5:30 or something and not much else to choose from. But then I've never been much of a fan of teeny bopper kinds of shows with dumb humor after the age of 30 for SURE and probably before.

The Netflix series re the ranch Masterson was on was far better but all they talk of is how he was on the 70s show WAY back when.

This is so disgusting and so Hollwyood. It's almost laughable how almost all the people but one from some OLD show back in the day wrote letters on his behalf to the judge. Not family, not normal friends, but people know from THAT show. It's almost well, kind of dumb. Oh don't get me wrong, I'm sure family likely did as well, but the need to add these and think they'd have more import I imagine. Again an old show and all people from one set of an old show. How weird.

It is disgusting that almost without fail all defended him in this video of reactions. I will give Richie (spelling?) Ricci? credit. There's almost NO ONE not supporting him but supporting the victims instead. Of course Leah, etc., that's a given. Does he not have anyone more relevant and nowadays to speak on his behalf? Apparently not. And it's like they felt their letters would matter (or someone did) and not be made public. I doubt that somehow. At least the one guy, the son in the 70s show (forget his name) didn't go there. Mom and dad (70s show) did. Disgusting. And why would it be relevant? Probably the last time he was ever known to be any kind of decent person IF true OR there is something about that bunch in that show...

This is a great example of how most won't go there or talk of him or Scientology even and/or none come out in suipport of the victims. Where are the "famous" people with their applause about this conviction? Seriously. Like many rapists, he very much likely picked on a "type". I doubt he tried to rapre the mother actress in the 70s show. I doubt he raped Mila. Etc. Ricci said it best, people depending on who they are, are shown different sides of an individual. Paraphrasing.

Maybe even, who knows, some of them are sitting there going Holy Sh*t, they are actually going to send Danny to prison for 30 years so what could happen to me....

And finally, do we know who all are Scientology? Again they are to recruit their Hollywood friends....

He is FAR from the biggest Hollywood star. Let's look at who is absent and has paid no attention or uttered a word either way. All the rest of Hollywood pretty much. Just some people from the 70s show. For the most part.

AND IF this is SUCH a religion, where are they, the leaders, in backing THEIR GUY and speaking out? Come on Scientology, where are ya? Let's see you in person defending Danny. The one from Orange is the New Black, is it Taryn Manning, whoa boy. Is she Scientology. She actually sounded a lot like her nutty character. Well acted but maybe easy for her because somewhat who she is anyhow... I can't disagree with her comments on fat men in suits as to government though... Hey, she was raped in her series. And she forgave the guy and then stayed with him...

They live on a "different planet". Call it Hollywood, California. And times are and should be changing (albeit slowly) although they try to stay relevant and are in their own little world I guess. Talk about fat cats there where she talks politicians. I don't have to support the movie industry or whatever is left of it or mainstream TV. And I don't.

Where is Sam Elliott, Debra Winger, any of the cast from The Ranch other than Ashton? They are close those two arena't they? That show if I had it right fired his arse and had to end. Or they quietly got rid of him but not that quietly. Maybe there is something to the remark about Ashton and the Hollywood Ripper. I mean he and Danny have been together for years and appear to be tight.

They have lasted longer than like Demi and Ashton...

Hollywood stuff. Gag. But I watched this to see it is as one would expect but there ain't anyone that big supporting him and Ashton and Mila backtracked in a stone cold way trying to seem caring about victims. GAG.

The judge who oversaw Danny Masterson’s rape conviction is demanding answers regarding what happened to nine firearms the “That ’70s Show” actor was supposed to surrender.

Masterson was convicted in May of raping two women and sentenced to 30 years to life in prison. Long before his trials began, Judge Charlaine Olmedo ordered him to relinquish his collection of 10 guns – but are still unaccounted-for.

Masterson’s lawyer told a judge Monday morning that one gun was destroyed years ago, while the whereabouts of the others are uncertain, legal affairs reporter Meghann Cuniff reported. The former Law and Crime and Orange County Register reporter tweeted news and quotes from court, where Kate Mangels was representing the actor.

“I can represent that they’re not in his possession, custody or control and have not been since prior to the 2020 order,” Mangels said. “In 2020, Mr. Masterson surrendered all firearms in his possession to law enforcement pursuant to the protective order in this case. They’ve remained in law enforcement custody since that time.”

Olmedo gave Masterson’s lawyers the deadline of Dec.7 to uncover what happened to the nine missing firearms.

According to Cuniff, “The law calls for Olmedo to authorize a search warrant for any locations where she has probable cause to believe the guns are.”

Really?. This shouldn't even be in question. IMO This was intentional and not mishandling.

I am surprised he received that much time. Even nobody scumbags with records for sex offences don't. Then released to commit more. I would be surprised he served the full thirty. But it was no slap on the wrist. And NO case should be given a light sentence.

Hi @Summer_Breeze. :wave:And thank you for posting this. :nodding:

Oh Dannyyyyyy Boy give up your guns. NOW.

It isn't cute and it isn't funny you raping assaulting Scientologist FREAK.

This is California, how is it guns can't be tracked or there aren't strict laws? I'd think with the politics in this area it would be anti gun with very strict laws and regulation, registration, use, sale, and the same with ammo, etc. But maybe that all depends on whether you are a Baldwin or a Masterson... A politician, an illegal alien or a Scientologist.

Sarcasm most definitely intended.

So now he's proving his is an irresponsible gun owner and can't account for NINE. NINE!!! Now, if you owned a collection of 10 guns and couldn't account for 1 of them, I could maybe give him a pass, but NINE out of ten! How do you lose track of 90% of your guns?

They were tracked and that is how they know he had 10. What can't be tracked is if he gave them to others and didn't bother to fill out any paperwork. This is 100% on Masterson and not politicians. He is the one that broke the "tracking" of them.

He didn't "lose" them. The best part is that a search warrant can be issued on anyone they think is holding them. If he thinks any of his friends won't hate him if he forces the cops to start looking for them at their homes, he's wrong. I'd love to see them get a search warrant for David Miscavige's house.

Plus, he better hope that anybody he gave them to didn't use them in a crime or gave them to somebody that committed a crime. It's possibly on him until he can prove otherwise if they were.
